synaptic plasticity. GABAergic transmission is also implicated in developmental and degenerative processes in the brain. The goal of the present study was to understand the developmental and degenerative regulation of GABAergic transmission in the mouse hippocampus by examining changes in GABA receptor subunit mRNA levels and GABA-related protein expression during postnatal development of... -

transporter2 (GlyT2), vesicular GABA transporter (VGAT), and potassium chloride cotransporter2 (KCC2) in the mouse cervical spinal cord. In this session, we present the developmental changes in GABAergic and glycinergic transmission. (1) Before synapse formation, GABA may be extrasynaptically released by non-exocytotic system, and be transported into the processes of radial glia or immature... -

admixed with substantial population of GABAergic neurons in the midbrain. Functionally DAergic neurons interacted with GABAergic neurons. Deficiency of DA prevents the migration of GABAergic neurons to their final location in the mesencephalon. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of DA receptor agonists on the ex pression of glutamic acid decarboxylase 67 (GAD67) using a... -

A GABAergic cells can in- directly affect the HPA axis and/or sympathetic nervous system. In regulation of the HPA axis, studies have shown that the PVN is under a fine modulation of local GABAergic inputs as well as the direct inhibition of humoral feedback by corticosterone [6]. Among the GABAergic synapses in the medial parvocellular region, 78% of the GABAergic bou- tons terminate on the... of GABAergic neurons in the AHA. The AHA GABAergic neurons expressed mRNA of GR (42%), MR (38%) or both (8%). In addition, in brain slices incubated with corticosterone together with RU486 (MR-dominant group), the proportion of neurons showing a burst firing pattern was significantly higher than those in the slices incubated with vehicle, corticosterone, or corticosterone with spironolactone (GR-dominant group; 64 vs. 11∼14%, p<0.01 by 2-test). Taken together, the results show that the... -

of spinal GABAergic elements. Therefore, the man- ifestation of neuropathic pain is not related to the changes in the elements. Although th e role of GABAergic system in the generation of neuropathic pain has been under- estimated, our present study showed that GABA agonists and GAT inhibitor are very effective in alleviating mechan- ical allodynia. Therefore, we should revaluate GABAergic... spinal GABAergic elements after peripheral nerve injury was related to the impairment of GABAergic inhibition or neuropathic pain. To these aims, we first analyzed the pain behaviors following the spinal administration of GABA antagonists (1Ռg bicuculline/rat and 5Ռg phaclofen/rat), agonists (1Ռg muscimol/rat and 0.5Ռg baclofen/rat) or GABA transporter (GAT) inhibitors (20Ռg NNC-711/rat and 1Ռg SNAP-5114/rat) into naïve or neuropathic animals. Then, using... -

GABAergic ones (Hendry et al., 1987; Prieto et al., 1994). Similarly, in- creased neural noise in the aged auditory cortex due to loss of GABAergic inhibition is likel y to impair normal acoustic coding functions (Ling et al., 2005), suggesting that the GABAergic inhibitory system pl ays an important role in the processing of acoustic information within the auditory cortex. Nitric oxide (NO)... connections. We used whole-cell recordings under voltage clamp to investigate the effect of NO on spontaneous GABAergic synaptic transmission in mechanically isolated rat auditory cortical neurons preserving functional presynaptic nerve terminals. GABAergic spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) in the A1 were completely blocked by bicuculline. The NO donor, S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP), reduced the GABAergic sIPSC frequency without affecting the mean current amplitude.... -

to exerta GABAergic inhibitory influ- ence on the lateral vestibular nuclei (Pompeiano et al, 2002). Itis well-known thatNMDA receptors produce long-term neuroplasticity, including long-term potentiation in several forebrain structures, but also in the long-term depression which affects the cerebellar cortex (Bading et al, 1995; Azuma et al,1996).In this study, the parallel fibers acting on Purkinje... markedly attenuated the degree of c-fos mRNA expression. Glutamate receptor antagonist also dramatically attenuated the degree of c-fos mRNA expression. These results indicate that expression of c-fos mRNA in response to hypergravity occurs in the vestibular related tissues of the central nervous system, in which peripheral vestibular receptors and glutamate receptors play an important role. The temporal pattern of c-fos mRNA expression depended on the duration of the hypergravity stimulus.
