presence of rough and dark areas on the surface of the eggs (B-D). A demarcated zone was clearly present in the eggshell (D) with increased light penetration on the blunt end when illuminated with a flashlight. Scanning electon microscope (SEM) images of an unaffected eggshell (E) clearly showed the inner membrane (a), mammillary knob layer (b), and part of the palisade layer (c). Shells of eggs... control (61.5%) animals, and were significantly different at 20 months (p < 0.05). Differences in lameness along with movement and swelling of the elbows between groups were observed after 12 months. The treated group had improved significantly by the last visit (p < 0.05). No adverse side effects were reported. In conclusion, oral treatment with Hyaloral may have a potential cumulative action that provides protection against dysplasia and significantly improves symptoms of elbow dysplasia. -

The major extracellular chitinase gene (PeChi68) from strain HOA73 was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli in this study. This gene had an open reading frame of 2,028 bp, encoding a protein of 675 amino acid residues containing a secretion signal peptide, a chitin-binding domain, two fibronectin type III domains, and a catalytic hydrolase domain. The chitinase (PeChi68) purified from recombinant E. coli exhibited a... -

from a coconut shell with the potassium hydroxide activation process. This activated carbon was characterized by BET, XRD, FESEM and FTIR. A comprehensive study was performed on its adsorption effciency for the removal of methyl orange from an aqueous solution. BET surface analysis revealed that the synthesized sample is a mesoporous solid. XRD analysis proved that the sample had a perfect... Activated carbon was synthesized from coconut shells. The Brunauer, Emmett and Teller surface area of the synthesized activated carbon was found to be 1640 m2/g with a pore volume of 1.032 cm3/g. The average pore diameter of the activated carbon was found to be 2.52 nm. By applying the size-strain plot method to the X-ray diffraction data, the crystallite size and the crystal strain was determined to be 42.46 nm and 0.000489897, respectively, which indicate a perfect crystallite structure. the production of activated carbon with high porosity, large surface area, and high pore volume [6]. Graphene is the name given to a two-dimensional sheet of sp 2-hybridized carbon. Porous graphene-like nanosheets with a large surface area were synthesized via a simul- taneous activation-graphitization route from renewable biomass waste coconut shell [9]. Parshetti et al. [10] dem- onstrated... ethanol and other value-added bio-products including activated carbons has attracted much attention. The development of an efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly pretreatment process is a major challenge in lignocellulosic biomass to biofuel conversion. Although several modern pretreatment technologies have been introduced, few promising technologies have been reported. Microwave irradiation or microwave-assisted methods (physical and chemical) for pretreatment (disintegration) of biomass... -

Park group fabricated superhydrophobic electrochemical CFs with double-scale roughness by the growth of GNFs on CF surfaces (Fig. 5). High- density GNFs were synthesized by chemical decomposition of C2H2 on CF surfaces coated with a Ni-doped mesoporous TiO2 flm at lower temperature. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images indicated that GNFs with an average diameter of 40 nm grew uniformly... Materials with appropriate surface roughness and low surface energy can form superhydrophobic surfaces, displaying water contact angles greater than 150°. Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials are particularly interesting due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. This review discusses the various techniques used to produce superhydrophobic carbon-based materials such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, amorphous carbons, etc. Recent advances in emerging fields such as... -

The growth of the mutants in nutrient rich conditions containing chitin was similar with that of the wild-type. However, growth of the speD and gluP mutants was defective in chitin minimal medium, but was observed no growth retardation in the clp and dsbB mutant on chitin minimal medium.
