a loading control. (C) Specific induction of RCAN1.4 mRNA. The relative amount of mRNAs was estimated by re al-time PCR, normalized by GAPDH, and the values for db/db mice (open bars) are relative to the expression observed in db/m mice (fille d bars; arbitrarily designated a value of 1). Data are means±SE of five experiments. *p <0.01, db/m vs. db/db. Fig. 2. RCAN1.4 mRNA induction by diverse... (AGE-BSA) were identified as inducers of RCAN1.4 in mesangial cells. Pretreatment of cyclosporine A blocked the increases of RCAN1.4 stimulated by IL-1Ղ or AGE-BSA, suggesting that activation of CaN is required for the RCAN1.4 induction. Stable transfection of RCAN1.4 in Mes-13 mesangial cells upregulated several factors relevant to ECM production and degradation. These results suggested that RCAN1.4 might act as a link between CaN activation and ECM turnover in diabetic nephropathy. -

to be upregulated. These data suggest that LDR irradiation could trigger specific induction of DNA repair-associated genes in an attempt to repair damaged DNA during tumor progression, which in turn contributed to the decreased incidence of lymphoma and increased survival. Overall, we identified specific DNA repair genes in LDR-irradiated AKR/J mice. Keywords: AKR/J mice, DNA repair genes,... the start of LDR irradiation. Furthermore, transcriptional levels of H2AX and ATM, proteins known to recruit DNA repair factors, were also shown to be upregulated. -

was administered 30 min prior to general anaesthesia. The colt received romifidine (0.05 mg/kg, IV; Boehringer Ingelheim, France) and 1% morphine HCl (0.1 mg/kg, IV; Cooper, France) 5 min prior to induction. General anaesthesia was induced with ketamine (2.4 mg/kg, IV; Merial, France) and diazepam (0.05 mg/kg, IV; Roche, France). The colt was intubated with an oro-tracheal tube and was placed in... The following case report describes the diagnosis and surgery of bilateral polydactyly of unknown origin in a colt. A 7-month-old Berber colt was referred for cosmetic and curative excision of supernumerary digits. Radiographic examination revealed bilateral polydactyly and welldeveloped first carpal bones. Surgery consisted of an osteotomy of both second metacarpal bones combined with an amputation of the supernumerary digits. The follow-up at 18 months after surgery revealed a sound horse with... -

an im- pairment in the induction of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity [29]. Even though some oxidants such as 4-hydrox- ynonenal (HNE), a diffusible lipid species, have been re- ported to induce Bis expression via activating HSF1 [20], the issue of whether oxidative stress directly activates the Bis gene promoter remains unclear. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate... HK-2 cells with N-acetyl cysteine, suppressed Bis induction. Furthermore, HSF1 silencing attenuated Bis expression that was induced by H2O2, accompanied by increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Using a series of deletion constructs of the bis gene promoter, two putative heat shock elements located in the proximal region of the bis gene promoter were found to be essential for the constitutive expression is as well as the inducible expression of Bis. Taken together, our results... -

It has been shown that QGC isolated and purified from Rumecis folium found protective effects of gastritis and esophagitis which EXT is an ethanol extract of it. We examined acute toxicity and the general pharmacological action of QGC EXT to search for any side effects of it in rats, mice, guinea pigs, and cats. In a single dose toxicity study, QGC EXT didn't show toxicological effects in rats and mice, and the LD50 was over 5 g/kg in both animals, and there were also no changes in weight, feed... -

it prob- ably involves the induction of oxidative stress (Feillet-Coudray et al, 1999; Reagan et al, 2000) to which myelin is partic- ularly vulnerable (Smith et al, 1999). Damage to myelin by oxidative stress is seen in disorders such as dementia of AD type with cognitive im pairment (Braak et al, 2000). It causes desensitization of insulin receptors and bio- chemical changes similar to AD or... The present study was undertaken to explore the potential of erythropoietin in memory deficits of mice. Memory impairment was produced by scopolamine (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) and intracerebroventricular streptozotocin (i.c.v STZ, 3 mg/kg, 10Ռl, 1st and 3rd day) in separate groups of animals. Morris water- maze test was employed to assess learning and memory. The levels of brain thio-barbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were estimated to assess degree of oxidative... -

Eskandari, S., Khakvar, R. and Torchi, M. 2018. Detection of bacterial blight of walnut (Xanthomonas arboricola pv. juglandis) in northwest of Iran and investigation of its patho- genicity on different native walnut cultivars.... The present study describes the bacterial blight of wal- nut, caused by Xanthomonas arboricola pv. juglandis (Xaj) in the northern Gyeongbuk province, Korea. Dis- ease symptoms that appear very similar to anthracnose symptoms were observed in walnut trees in June 2016. Pathogens were isolated from disease infected leaves, fruits, shoots, bud, flower bud of walnut, and cultured onto yeast dextrose carbonate agar plates. Isolated bac- teria with bacterial blight symptoms were character- ized for... -

As sessile organisms, plants are exposed to persistently changing stresses and have to be able to interpret and respond to them. The stresses, drought, salinity, chemicals, cold and hot temperatures, and various pathogen attacks have interconnected effects on plants, resulting in the disruption of protein homeostasis. Maintenance of proteins in their functional native conformations and preventing aggregation of non-native proteins are important for cell survival under stress. Heat shock proteins... -

Irradiation, a useful nonchemical approach, has been used as an alternative treatment for fungicide to control plant fungal pathogens. For a preliminary study, ionizing radiations (gamma, X-ray, or e-beam irradiation) were evaluated for their antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium expansum, and Rhizopus stolonifer through mycelial growth, spore germination, and morphological analysis under various...
