Large unilamellar vesicles (OPGTL) were prepared with total lipids extracted from cultured Porphyromonas gingivalis outer membranes (OPG). The anthroyloxy probes were located at a graded series of depths inside a membrane, depending on its substitution position (n) in the aliphatic chain. Fluorescence polarization of n-(9-anthroyloxy)stearic acid was used to examine effects of chlorhexidine digluconate on differential rotational mobility, while changing the probes'... -

of cell membranes may not be useful in building a hypothesis for the mechanism of pharmacological action of chlorhexidine on bacteriostatic or bactericidal effects. However, little attention has been given to the effects of chlorhexidine on the fluidity of special domain of anaerobic bacterial membranes. Furthermore, no studies have been carried out on the effects of chlorhexidine on the... 9-AS, 12-AS and 16-AP) probes, indicating different membrane fluidity. Chlorhexidine digluconate increased the rate of rotational mobility of hydrocarbon interior of the cultured Porphyromonas gingivalis outer membranes (OPG) in a dose-dependent manner, but decreased the mobility of surface region (membrane interface) of the OPG. Disordering or ordering effects of chlorhexidine digluconate on membrane lipids may be responsible for some, but not all of its bacteriostatic and bactericidal actions. -

role in membrane permeability to sodium, calcium, and potassium (Green et al, 1980). Effects of local anesthetics on motion, order and phase transitions of bulk bilayer systems of native or model membranes have received cons iderable attention in past decades. This is due to the interest in biological membranes as well as the unique information on intermolecular interactions that can be deri... of 3-AS, 6-AS, 9-AS and 16-AP were different depending on depth of hydrocarbon interior. In a dose-dependent manner, tetracaine, bupivacaine, lidocaine, prilocaine and procaine decreased anisotropy of 3-AS, 6-AS, 9-AS and 16-AP in the hydrocarbon interior of the SPMV. These results indicate that local anesthetics have significant disordering effects on hydrocarbon interior of the SPMV, thus affecting the transport of Na and K in nerve membranes and leading to anesthetic action. -

ATP increased cAMP content in M-1 cells. The RT-PCR analysis demonstrated that M-1 cells express P2Y2, P2X3 and P2Y4 receptors. These results showed that ATP regulates Na and Cl transports via multiple P2 purinoceptors on the apical and basolateral membranes in M-1 cells. -

Direct exposure of renal tubular brush-border membranes (BBM) to free cadmium (Cd) causes a reduction in phosphate (Pi) transport capacity. Biochemical mechanism of this reduction was investigated in the present study. Renal proximal tubular brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMV) were isolated from rabbit kidney outer cortex by Mg precipitation method. Vesicles were exposed to 50∼200 μM CdCl2 for 30 min, then the phosphate transporter activity was determined. The range of Cd concentration... -

brief, synaptic membranes (300 μg of mem brane protein per tube) were incubated at 300C for 60 min in a final volume of 1 ml reaction mixture, containing 50 mM Tris-acetate buffer, pH 7.1, 5 n CH]MK-801, and appropriate concentrations of test ligands. The incubation was ternated and the bound radioactivity to the membranes was separated and measured as described (Cho et al, 1996).... the synaptic membranes of young and aged rat forebrains. The binding in the presence of glutamate and glycine increased dramatically with growth between 1 and 6 weeks old, and thereafter declined gradually with aging. Glutamate, glycine or spermine respectively increased the binding with growth. Glutamate maintained the binding during aging, while glycine or spermine significantly decreased the binding in the aged brain. The maximum stimulation by glycine varied depending on the ages of brains.... -

Key Words: Membrane permeability, Weak acid, NH3, Stopped-flow technique Fluorescence INTRODUCTION The mechanism of passive permeation of non- electrolytes through the biological membranes has been studied for long period of time. In 1902, the significance of... of nonionized formic acid and initial rate of flux of formic acid in liposome, and the slope coincided with the value of permeability coefficient of formic acid measured in pH 7.0.
