reversa1 of 2KIC hypertension. An acute reversal of 2KIC hypertension is complete1y eliminated by inhibiting the synthesis of NO with an L-arginine analogue, N ω nitro-L-arginine methy1 ester (Beierwaltes et a1, 1995). The hypoten sive response to the unclipping is b1unted by the b10ckade of NO synthesis in one-kidney, one clip hypertensive rats (Fenoy et a1, 1997; Huang & Tasi,... kidney. The blood pressure at twenty-four hours after removal of the renal arterial clip fell to the control level. Accordingly, in the unclipped kidney, the expression of ecNOS proteins and tissue contents of NO metabolites were increased to the control level. The contralateral kidney was not affected by the development or reversal of hypertension. It is suggested that an enhanced expression of ecNOS in the unclipped kidney is an important component in the reversal of renovascular hypertension. -

Objective: To study the effects of gait training with additional weight and gait training with non-additional weight on balance ability and gait ability in patients with chronic stroke through comparative analysis. Design: Randomized controlled trials. Methods: The subjects were divided randomly into two groups: additional weight group (AWG, n=12), and non-additional weight group (NAWG, n=10). Both groups received general physical therapy for 30 min in 1 session, 5 sessions per week during 6... -

a reversal in the protein expression levels. Discussion To the best of our knowledge, no other studies have been conducted to examine the toxic effects of melamine in cell cultures, although clinical studies have provided evidence of the toxicity and physiological effects of melamine on animals [15,17,21,22]. Melamine has been reported to have low acute toxicity, with an oral LD 50 in rats of... This study assessed the toxicity of melamine against the unicellular eukaryotic system of Tetrahymena (T.) pyriformis exposed to 0, 0.05, 0.25, 0.5, 2.5, and 5 mg/mL of melamine. Cell growth curves of different cultures, the half maximum inhibition concentration (IC50) value of melamine, and morphological changes in cells were obtained via optical and transmission electron microscopic observation. The effects of eleven melamine concentrations, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 and 5... -

The purpose of this study was to verify whether small intestinal peristalsis could be observed and quantitatively assessed using pulsed-Doppler ultrasound. Pulsed-Doppler ultrasound was used to evaluate small intestinal peristalsis after a meal in ten normal dogs and ten sedated dogs. The small intestinal peristalses were measured 0, 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 24 hours after a 24-hour fast and after feeding. The number of small intestinal peristalsis were 0.133/min, 0.100/min, 0.033/min, 0.167/min,... -

Adjuvant arthritis was induced by a single injection of Freund's complete adjuvant. Mature female Sprague-Dawley rats were designated to 3 groups such as nontreated control, plaster-treated (PT) and cataplasm-treated (CT), each of which was composed of ten animals. The PT and the CT groups showed reduced primary paw swelling, but secondary paw swelling was not... -
Antidepressant drug paroxetine blocks the open pore of Kv3.1 potassium channel

reduced and the subsequent decline of the current was slower (τ=28.77±4.42 ms; n=4; p<0.05), resulting in the tail crossover phenomenon (Figs. 5C and D). Paroxetine (30 M) did not change the reversal potential of Kv3.1 tail current, which was about 84 mV either with or without paroxetine (Figs. 5A and B), indicating that paroxetine has no effect on the ion selectivity of Kv3.1 channels.... In patients with epilepsy, depression is a common comorbidity but difficult to be treated because many antidepressants cause pro-convulsive effects. Thus, it is important to identify the risk of seizures associated with antidepressants. To determine whether paroxetine, a very potent selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), interacts with ion channels that modulate neuronal excitability, we examined the effects of paroxetine on Kv3.1 potassium channels, which contribute to high-frequency... -

a reversal of the protective effect of clonidine against sepsis-induced mortality. The i.t. treatment with PTX alone caused a slight hypoglycemic effect as shown in Fig. 8B. Furthermore, i.t. pretreatment with PTX almost abol- ished clonidine-induced hyperglycemic effect. Effect of clonidine on plasma TNF-α level in control and sepsis groups The plasma TNF-α level was measured 1 to 3 h after... The effect of clonidine administered intrathecally (i.t.) on the mortality and the blood glucose level induced by sepsis was examined in mice. To produce sepsis, the mixture of D-galactosamine (GaLN; 0.6 g/10 ml)/lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 27 µg/27 µl) was treated intraperitoneally (i.p.). The i.t. pretreatment with clonidine (5 µg/5 µl) increased the blood glucose level and attenuated mortality induced by sepsis in a dose-dependent manner. The i.t. post-treatment with... -

of lamotrigine (30 mM). Current-voltage relationships for peak amplitudes were almost linear, and calculated reversal potentials by linear regression were 3.4±0.5 mV and 3.5±0.7 mV in the absence and presence of lamotrigine, respectively. The reversal potential of 5-HT-induced currents was not changed by the co-application of lamotrigine (n=7, p=0.8076, paired t-test). The fractional... Lamotrigine is an antiepileptic drug widely used to treat epileptic seizures. Using whole-cell voltage clamp recordings in combination with a fast drug application approach, we investigated the effects of lamotrigine on 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)3 receptors in NCB-20 neuroblastoma cells. Coapplication of lamotrigine (1~300 μM) resulted in a concentration-dependent reduction in peak amplitude of currents induced by 3 μM of 5-HT for an IC50 value of 28.2±3.6 μM with a Hill coefficient of...
