β1-40 aggregates. Accordingly, our findings suggest that citrate administration should be viewed as a novel neuroprotective strategy for AD. Key Words: Citrate, Alzheimer’s disease, β-amyloid, Aggregation, Apoptosis INTRODUCTION The accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides in senile plaque represents a major pathological change in the AD brain. Aβ is generated by the sequential proteolytic... from 84.6 to 93.8% as compared with the AՂ1-40 aggregates alone treated cells (65.3%). Furthermore, Hoechst 33342 staining showed that citrate (1.0 mM) suppressed AՂ1-40 aggregates-induced apoptosis in the cells. This study suggests that citrate can inhibit AՂ1-40 aggregation and protect neurons from the apoptotic effects of AՂ1-40 aggregates. Accordingly, our findings suggest that citrate administration should be viewed as a novel neuroprotective strategy for AD. -

are thought to arise from the same precursor cell as a different type of epithelial cell [32]. These neuroendocrine cells originating in the embryonic neural crest migrate to the gastrointestinal epithelium during the course of prenatal development [24]. GFAP-positive glial cells were detected at 68 days (45% gestation) in the rumen, and at 64 days (43% gestation) in reticulum and omasum.... Here we report the detection and distribution of synaptophysin (SPY), non-neuronal enolase (NNE), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), vimentin (VIM), neuropeptide Y (NPY), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) expression in the goat forestomach during prenatal development. A total of 140 embryos and fetuses were examined to evaluate protein expression from the first stage of prenatal life until birth. In all cases, SPY immunoreactivity was detected at 53 days gestation in the lamina... -

Surg. Oncol. 1998, 5,... We examined the localization of the anti-apoptotic molecule Bcl-2 in the spinal cords of Lewis rats with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Western blot analysis showed that Bcl-2 was constitutively expressed in normal spinal cords, and weakly increased in response to complete Freund's adjuvant(CFA) immunization. In EAE, with infiltration of inflammatory cells into spinal cords, Bcl-2 declined during the peak stage and further decreased during the recovery stage.... -

To elucidate the role of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the pathogenesis of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), we analyzed the expression of constitutive neuronal NOS (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS), and inducible NOS (iNOS) in the spinal cords of rats with EAE. We further examined the structural interaction between apoptotic cells and spinal cord cells including neurons and astrocytes, which are potent cell types of nitric oxide (NO) production in the brain. Western blot analysis... -

a peptide with 107 kDa as hexon protein. In these Indian strains, there also were polypeptide bands above 107 kDa, which were proposed as precursor polypeptides. On the other hands, Kumar and Chandra [13] reported a strain of Indian FAdV isolated from HPS had 12 peptide bands ranged 13.8~110 kDa, and they supposed a 110 kDa-peptide was hexon protein. In the present study, similarly, a peptide band... -

Ahn HY, Kim CH, Ha TS. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate regulates Nadph oxidase... Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of mortality and long-term disability, which can decrease quality of life. In spite of numerous studies suggesting that Epigallocatechin-3- gallate (EGCG) has been used as a therapeutic agent for a broad range of disorders, the effect of EGCG on TBI remains unknown. In this study, a weight drop model was established to evaluate the therapeutic potential of EGCG on TBI. Rats were administered with 100 mg/kg EGCG or PBS intraperitoneally. At different...
