(simplified one-step SCNT; SONT) or separately with different pipettes (conventional two-step SCNT; CTNT) as the control procedure. After blastocysts from both groups were cultured in vitro, the expression levels of developmentally important genes (OCT4, NANOG, EOMES, CDX2, GLUT-1, PolyA, and HSP70) were analyzed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Both the developmental rate according to blastocyst stage as well as the expression levels CDX2, EOMES, and HSP70 were elevated with... -

culture assay. The sensitivity and specificity of the simplified PCR were 98.7% and 99.7%, respectively, for detecting mycoplasma in those cultures. The results obtained by the simplified PCR were consistent with ones from standard PCR. This newly developed simplified PCR, which does not require DNA purification, can analyze about 300 cultured samples within 3 h. The results from our study suggest that the simplified PCR can be used for mycoplasma mastitis screening in large-scale dairy farms. -

a two-step culture system, which involves the use of different culture media for early cleavage and later stage embryos, on the in vitro development of bovine embryos. We also investigated the effect of glucose, phosphate and citrate on the in vitro early developmental period of bovine embryos in a two-step culture system. Moreover, the supplementation of different protein sources (BSA-V, BSA-FAF and FBS) during IVC did not affect the frequency of blastocyst development. Using two-step culture,... -

BEYOND YOUNG PEOPLE’S PRIVACY ONLINE: DATA LITERACY PROJECTS FOR CRITICAL DATA EDUCATION
Luci Pangrazio 경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 21 Pages
경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 2020, Vol.3 No.2 2 19-39 (21 pages)
This paper is based on a presentation given at the ‘Rethinking Literacy, Digital Competency and Media Education in the Age of Digital Platforms’ webinar hosted by Gyeongin National University in September 2020. In the paper, I explore the difficulties of implementing ‘critical data education’ programs in schools with children and young people. Reporting on three research projects with over 150 Australian students (aged 8-16 years), I explore the challenges and opportunities that arose. Each... -
Microglial involvement in the development of olfactory dysfunction

neurological disorders. In this review, we describe the nature of olfactory dysfunction and the advantage of using animal models in olfaction study, and we include a brief introduction to olfactory behavior tests widely used in this field. The contribution of microglia in the neurodegenerative processes including olfactory impairment is then discussed to provide a comprehensive description of the physiopathological role of interactions between neurons and microglia within the olfactory system. -
Isolation and characterization of canine umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells
Min-Soo Seo, Yun-Hyeok Jeong, Jeung-Ran Park, Sang-Bum Park, Kyoung-Hwan Rho, Hyung-Sik Kim, Kyung-Rok Yu, Seung-Hee Lee, Ji-Won 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 2 181-187 (7 pages)
In canine system, studying stem cell therapy is important, but so far, stem cells from canine were not identified and characterized. In this study, we successfully isolated and characterized MSCs from the canine umbilical cord and its fetal blood. Canine MSCs (cMSCs) were grown in medium containing low glucose DMEM with 20% FBS. The cMSCs have stem cells expression patterns which are concerned with MSCs surface markers by fluorescence- activated cell sorter analysis. The cMSCs had multipotent... -

A 4-month-old female Holstein Friesian calf was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Berne, Switzerland for evaluation of ataxia, weakness, apathy and stunted growth. Clinical examination revealed generalized ataxia, propioceptive deficits, decreased menace response and sensibility. Postmortem examination did not reveal macroscopic changes of major organs. Histologically, the brain and the spinal cord lesions were characterized by polymicrocavitation, preferentially... -

constituents, including tyrosine and protein secondary structures. E. purpurea administration significantly ameliorated all estimated parameters. The radio-protection effectiveness was similar to the radio-recovery curativeness in comparison to the control group in most of the tested parameters. The radio-protection efficiency was greater than the radio-recovery in hemoglobin level during the first two weeks, in lymphoid cell count and TBARs level at the fourth week and in SOD activity during t... -
Development and evaluation of indirect ELISA for the detection of antibodies against Japanese encephalitis virus in swine
Dong-Kun Yang, Byoung-Han Kim, Seong-In Lim, Jun-Hun Kwon, Kyung-Woo Lee, Cheong-Up Choi, Chang-Hee Kweon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 3호 10 271-275 (5 pages)
The Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is one of causative agents of reproductive failure in pregnant sows. An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ELISA) was examined for its potential use in the rapid monitoring of the JEV, and the results were compared with those from the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and serum neutralization (SN) tests. The comparative analysis showed that the results of I-ELISA showed a significant correlation with the conventional HI (r = 0.867) and SN tests (r... -
BSE situation and establishment of Food Safety Commission in Japan

tissues/wastes and remains of diseased, affected fallen stocks and cohort animals have to be eliminated to prevent BSE invading the human food chain systems. The failure to detect any cohort should never be allowed to occur, and with regular and persistent updating of available stringent records, we are at least adopting the correct and useful approach as a reawakening strategy to securing food safety. In this perspective, traceability based on a National Identification System is required. -

It was reported that the sera of convalescent animals contain antibodies to foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus (FMDV) 2C, highly conserved nonstructural protein (NSP), whereas the sera of vaccinated animals do not. But ELISA methods using this protein were not reported and developed until recently. In this study, NSP 2C peptides were synthesized within the amino acid sequence of the conserved 2C nonstructural region of FMDV according to the sequences from Genbank database and used for... -

A modified electrometric method was described and validated for measurement of plasma and erythrocyte cholinesterase activities in 6~18 months old goats. The enzymatic reaction mixture contained 3 ml distilled water, 3 ml barbital-phosphate buffer (pH 8.1), 0.2 ml plasma or erythrocytes and 0.1 ml acetylthiocholine iodide (7.5%) as a substrate. The mixture was incubated at 37 degrees C for 40 minutes. The pH of the reaction mixture was determined by a pH meter before and after the incubation.... -

and three immunoglobulin subtypes of IgG1, IgG2a and IgG2b in the sera of mice before and after challenge. Titers of IgG1 antibodies were approximately two to three times higher than that of IgG2b antibodies in all the immunized groups as compared to the control group. However, IgG2a antibody level somewhat increased after challenge, indicating T-helper type 1 (Th1) cell response. The results of this study can provide useful information for developing efficacious subunit vaccine against JEV.
