The objective of the present study was to establish the method of measurement of hydrogen peroxide and to estimate the anti-oxidative effect of genistein in the skin. UVB induced skin oxidation and anti-oxidative effect of genistein formulations were evaluated by determining levels of hydrogen peroxide. The mechanism involved in the determination of hydrogen peroxide is based on a color reaction between ferric ion (Fe3+) and xylenol orange, often called FOX assay and subsequent monitoring of... -

of palmitate oxidation in the gastrocnemius red was correlated inversely with intra-abdominal fat mass in the 5-week-old male and female rats, whereas the palmitate oxidation rate was positively correlated with fat mass in the liver and gastrocnemius red in the 50-week-old rats. HOMA-IR and plasma insulin levels were positively correlated with intra-abdominal fat mass in the pooled 50-week-old male and female rats, but this correlation was not apparent in 5-week-old rats. In summary, the rate of... -
What is the Key Step in Muscle Fatty Acid Oxidation after Change of Plasma Free Fatty Acids Level in Rats?

similar extent as palmitate oxidation by a decrease of plasma FFA level. This suggested that β-oxidation might be an important process to regulate fatty acid oxidation at the early period of plasma FFA change. Citrate synthase activity was not altered by the change of plasma FFA level. In conclusion, the critical step in fatty acids oxidation of skeletal muscles by the change of plasma FFA level by acipimox in fasting rats might be the β-oxidation step rather than CPT1 and TCA cycle pathways. -

muscle followed by liver. Brain tissue showed the lowest CPT I activity as well as lipid oxidation rate, although the values were not significantly different from those of kidney and white gastrocnemius muscle. Therefore, lipid oxidation rate was highly(p<0.001) related to CPT I activity. Lipid oxidation rate is variable, depending on tissue types, and is highly (p<0.001) related to CPT I activity. CPT I activity may be a good marker to indicate lipid oxidation capacity in various tissues. -

chromatography (IC). SO2 and NO2 could react on oxides to form secondary particles and the order of reactivity of mineral oxides under laboratory reaction conditions is: Al2O3>MgO>CaO>>SiO2, Fe2O3. NO2 has a synergistic effect on the heterogeneous reaction of SO2 on Al2O3 in the presence of O2. The synergistic effect of SO2 and NO2 on Al2O3 is further enhanced in the case of high relative humidity (RH) and in the presence of NH3. The reaction on Al2O3 under different gas concentration ratios is... -
Effect of added mesophase pitch during the pitch synthesis reaction of PFO

is an enhancement of thermal stability due to the high thermal property of the additive; the other is that the volatile compounds that were removed by vaporization of PFO during the thermal reaction can participate in the pitch synthesis reaction (PFO→pitch) more efficiently. The effect differs according to the amount of the additive. When the amount of the additive is less than 7 wt%, the first effect is dominant, whereas the second effect is dominant when the additive amount exceeds 10 wt%. -

Microstructural changes of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fibers (T300 and T700) due to isothermal oxidation (1): focusing on morphological changes using scanning electron microscopy

than that of T700 fibers. The diameter of T700 fibers decreased linearly with increasing burn-off. The diameter of T300 also decreased with increasing burn-off but at slower rates over time. Cross-sectional observations after oxidation reactions revealed hollow cores in the longitudinal direction for both T300 and T700 fibers. The formation of hollow cores after oxidation can be traced to differences in the fabrication process such as the starting material and final heat treatment temperature. -
One-step synthesis of dual-transition metal substitution on ionic liquid based N-doped mesoporous carbon for oxygen reduction reaction

linear sweep was recorded in an acidic solution to compare the ORR catalytic activities values for the use in the PEMFC system. The dual transition metal promotion improved the ORR activity compared with the single transition metal promotion, due to the increase in the quaternary nitrogen species from the structural change by the dual metals. The effect of different ratio of the dual metals into the N doped carbon were examined to evaluate the activities of the oxygen reduction reaction. -

in determining the mechanical properties of the final carbon fibers, but the most commonly used methods, such as thermal treatment (200°C to 300°C), tend to waste a great deal of process time, money, and energy. There is therefore a need to develop more advanced oxidation methods for PAN precursor fibers. In this review, we assess the viability of electron beam, gamma-ray, ultra-violet, and plasma treatments with a view to advancing these areas of research and their industrial application.
