Infectious coryza (IC) is an infectious disease caused by Avibacterium (Av.) paragallinarum. IC is known to cause economic losses in the poultry industry via decreased egg production in layers. Between 2012 and 2013, Av. paragallinarum was isolated from seven chicken farms by Chungbuk National University. We identified Av. paragallinarum, the causative pathogen of IC by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and serovar serotype A, by multiplex PCR. Antibiotic sensitivity tests indicated that a few... -

2 Hz progressively increased the propafenone-induced inhibition of the Kv current. Furthermore, the inactivation recovery time constant was increased after the application of propafenone, suggesting that the inhibitory action of propafenone on Kv current is partially use-dependent. Pretreatment with Kv1.5, Kv2.1 or Kv7 inhibitor did not change the inhibitory effect of propafenone on the Kv current. Together, these results suggest that propafenone inhibits the vascular Kv channels in a dose- and... -

A retinal prosthesis is being developed for the restoration of vision in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Determining optimal electrical stimulation parameters for the prosthesis is one of the most important elements for the development of a viable retinal prosthesis. Here, we investigated the effects of different charge-balanced biphasic pulses with regard to their effectiveness in evoking retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses. Retinal... -

The layers of keratinocytes form an acid mantle on the surface of the skin. Herein, we investigated the effects of acidic pH on the membrane current and [Ca2+]c of human primary keratinocytes from foreskins and human keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT). Acidic extracellular pH (pHe≤5.5) activated outwardly rectifying Cl− current (ICl,pH) with slow kinetics of voltage-dependent activation. ICl,pH was potently inhibited by an anion channel blocker 4,4`-diisothiocyanostilbene-2,2`-disulphonic... -

To study the direct effect of somatostatin (SS) on calcium channel current (IBa) in guinea-pig gastric myocytes, IBa was recorded by using whole-cell patch clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells. Nicardipine (1μM), a L-type Ca2+ channel blocker, inhibited IBa by 98⁑1.9% (n=5), however IBa was decreased in a reversible manner by application of SS. The peak IBa at 0 mV were decreased to 95⁑1.1, 92⁑1.9, 82⁑4.0, 66⁑5.8, 10⁑2.9% at 1010, 109,... -

from VSM cells was larger in 2K1C hypertension than in control. Neither the voltage-dependence of the calcium current nor the cell capacitance was significantly affected by 2K1C hypertension. By contrast, the amplitude of the calcium current was not altered in DOCA-salt hypertension. These results suggest that high-threshold calcium current of the VSM cells is altered in 2K1C hypertension, and that calcium channel may not be involved in calcium recruitment of VSM in DOCA-salt hypertension. -

Background: We have previously reported that not only cGMP but also 8-Br-cGMP or 8-pCPT-cGMP, specific and potent stimulators of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGMP-PK), increased basal L-type calcium current (ICa) in rabbit ventricular myocytes. Our findings in rabbit ventricular myocytes were entirely different from the earlier findings in different species, suggesting that the activation of cGMP-PK is involved in the facilitation of ICa by cGMP. However, there is no direct evidence that... -

by carbachol (CCh) activates nonselective cation channel current (ICCh) which is facilitated by intracellular [Ca2] increase. Caffeine is widely used in experiments to mobilize Ca2 from intracellular stores. This study shows a strong inhibitory effect of caffeine on ICCh in guinea-pig gastric myocyte. In this study, the underlying mechanism of the inhibitory effect of caffeine was investigated. ICCh was completely suppressed by the addition of caffeine (10 mM) to the superfusing... -

are known anion channel blockers abolished the caffeine induced current. Intracellular application of a high concentration of EGTA also abolished this current. Application of c-AMP, c-GMP, heparin, or AIF-4 made no remarkable changes to this current. Sodium replacement with the impermeable cation N-methylglucamine or with Cd2+ rarely affected this current. From the above results it is suggested that the caffeine induced current was a Cl- current and it was activated by intracellular Ca2+. -

There is evidence that noradrenaline enhances spontaneous contractions dose-dependently in guinea-pig antral circular muscle. To investigate the mechanism of this excitatory action, slow waves and membrane currents were recorded using conventional microelectrode techniques in muscle strips and the whole cell patch clamp technique in isolated gastric myocytes. On recording slow waves, noradrenaline (10-5 M) induced the hyperpolarization of the membrane potential, although the shape of the slow... -

was -31 mV and that of inactivation was -39 mV, respectively. This current was not decreased significantly by nifedipine, a specific dihydropyridine Ca2+ channel blocker in the range of 1 μM to 100μM. The inhibitory effect of Ni2+ on Ca2+ current was greater than that of Cd2+. The conductance of Ba2+ through the channel was equal to or lower than that of Ca2+ These results implied that Ca2+ current activated at a lower voltage in the mouse egg is carried via a Ca2+ channel with similar... -

predicted chloride current calculated from the constant field equation. The currents recorded in rabbit atrial myocytes, with the method showing isolated outward Na Ca exchange current in ventricular cells of the guinea pig, suggested that chloride conductance could be activated with the activation of Na/ca exchange current. From the above results it is concluded that a chloride sensitive component which is activated by intracellular calcium contributes to tail currents in rabbit atrial cells. -

Not only has good monolayer growth of graphene been achieved, but large-area synthesis of graphene sheets has been successful too. However, the polycrystalline nature of CVD graphene is hampering further progress as graphene property degrades due to presence of grain boundaries. This review will cover factors that affect nucleation of graphene and how other scientists sought to obtain large graphene domains. In addition, the limitation of the current research trend will be touched upon as well. -
