Daughty Onyango, Peter JO Aloka, Benson Charles Odongo 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.2 10 207-227 (21 pages)
There are reported cases of relational aggression among learners at public pre-schools in Kenya, however, very scanty research has been done in this regard. The study examined parent attachment relationships and aggressive tendencies among learners during early years in Kenya. Ex-post facto research design was adopted. The sample size consisted of 348 pre-school learners and 277 parents obtained by using the simple random sampling technique. The Parent-child Attachment and Aggressive Tendencies... -

Children attending pre-schools should acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to develop holistically. Therefore, promoting thinking skills in children is important. One of the ways to develop and promote thinking skills in children is through “dialogue such as questioning and challenging” (Higham et al., 2010, p. 393). This study looks into pre-school teachers’ conversations with children during story-telling activities. Six Kindergarten 1 (K1) and Kindergarten 2 (K2)... -

for emotional competence before cognitive skills, there also were differences observed across respondents. For example, almost half responded that they were not adequately prepared by their undergraduate education to promote emotional competence. A small number of open responses were supplied (n=24). Given the small sample, these were used as additional evidence to support and explain the findings from the quantitative analysis. Overall findings highlight the need for strategies to support these... -

of purposeful restraint from intervention, implementation of direct interventions, and individualizing education through whole-class activities. I will use our conversation as a starting point for proposing how we?early childhood educators, teacher educators, and researchers across the globemight draw from diverse philosophies and practices in education and special education to challenge increasingly standardized notions of intervention and (dis)ability in early childhood education and care. I... -

of more-or-less and about the process of determining differences between two quantities. After describing the structure of the lesson, we analyze the activities and pedagogical strategies employed by the teacher to achieve the intended learning objectives, with special emphasis on the mediation of representations as learning tools. Our ultimate goal is to encourage preschool educators to utilize multiple representations strategically within the context of whole-class and small-group activities. -
How Do Children Learn? Beliefs and Practices Reported by Kindergarten Teachers in Singapore
Ching Ting Tan, Nirmala Rao 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 32 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.3 5 81-112 (32 pages)
Correlation and regression analyses conducted revealed some relationships between beliefs and reported practices as well as associations of beliefs and practices with certain personal and kindergarten factors. Overall, beliefs in child-centeredness and teacher-centeredness predicted interactive academic activities, and beliefs in teacher-centeredness influenced reports of engaging in structured academic and teacher-led activities after controlling for demographic and contextual variables. -

There are few studies that provide insights into community perceptions of current initiatives in early childhood education policy and their perceived effectiveness with families. This study begins to address this void by examining the perceptions of the community - identified as parents through textual inclusions - with regard to early childhood education and care policies. Data were 199 posts to an online forum in response to an opinion piece about early childhood education. The following key... -

of qualification, type of bullying and whether or not it was witnessed. Results showed 1st and 4th-year student- and diploma-qualified teachers perceived acts of physical bullying to be more serious than verbal or relational bullying to a greater extent than did degree-qualified teachers. Degree-qualified teachers were less susceptible to bullying type and indicated they would be more likely to intervene than the other three groups. Results are discussed in relation to their implication for... -

and which, as a result, are endangered. The Preschool in Three Cultures Revisited study includes examples of such implicit cultural beliefs and practices in Chinese, Japanese, and US preschools. The paper argues that early childhood practitioners, policy makers, and scholars should give greater value to these cultural beliefs and practices and think of them as national treasures and as endangered educational ecology which it is our responsibility to protect and pass on to the next generation.
