A Role of Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases and Inflammatory Responses in Gender Differences in Kidney Ischemia Injury
KwonMooParkHoJaeHan 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

It is not known whether gender differences play a role in susceptibility to ischemic acute renal failure. Thus, we examined if there were any differences in susceptibility between male and female mice to kidney ischemic injury, and if so, whether it is due to differences in mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) or inflammatory responses to ischemia. Female mice were protected against kidney ischemia when compared with males. Thirty minutes of bilateral ischemia resulted in marked functional... -
Increases in Effective Cleft Glutamate Concentration During Expression of LTP

in quantal size, traditionally attributed to enhanced availability or efficacy of postsynaptic glutamate receptors. However, augmented quantal size might also reflect increases in neurotransmitter concentration within the synaptic cleft since AMPA-type glutamate receptors are not generally saturated during basal transmission. Here we report evidence that peak cleft glutamate concentration ([glu]cleft) increases during LTP, as indicated by a lessening of the blocking effects of rapidly unbinding... -
Correlation between mEPSC Amplitude and Rise Time upon the Blockade of AMPA Receptor Desensitization at Hippocampal Synapses

release, the smaller the size and rate-of-rise of postsynaptic responses would be expected if postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptors were not saturated. This prediction was tested at hippocampal synapses where postsynaptic AMPA-type glutamate receptors (AMPAR) were not generally saturated. Here, we found that the small miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (mEPSCs) showed significantly slower rise times than the large mEPSCs when the sucrose-induced mEPSCs recorded in cyclothiazide (CTZ),... -
The Alteration of Ca2+-activated K+ Channels in Coronary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells Isolated from Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Rabbit
NariKim, JinHan, EuiyongKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.2 5 147-156 (10 pages)
It has been proposed that Ca2-activated K (KCa) channels play an essential role in vascular tone. The alterations of the properties of coronary KCa channels have not been studied as a possible mechanism for impaired coronary reserve in cardiac hypertrophy. The present studies were carried out to determine the properties of coronary KCa channels in normal and hypertrophied hearts. These channels were measured from rabbit coronary smooth muscle cells using a patch clamp technique.... -
The Effect of Carbon Monoxide on Contraction, Cytosolic Ca2+ Level and Ionic Currents in Guinea Pig Ileal Smooth Muscle

of 60 mV, we found that CO had little effect on the peak Ba currents (IBa) when voltage was stepped from 60 mV to 0 mV. In addition, CO showed no effect on the depolarization-activated outward K currents in the all potential ranges. We conclude that CO inhibits smooth muscle contraction mainly by decreasing the Ca2 sensitivity of contractile elements via a cGMP-dependent pathway, not by involving L-type Ca2 and outward-potassium currents in guinea-pig ileum. -

of L-type Ca2-channel. However, the cellular mechanisms underlying the generation of slow wave remain unclear. Slow waves are insensitive to Ca2-antagonists but are blocked by metabolic inhibitors or low temperature. Recently it has been suggested that Interstitial Cells of Cajal (ICC) serve as pacemaker cells and a slow wave reflects the coordinated behavior of both ICC and smooth muscle cells. Small segments of circular smooth muscle isolated from antrum of the guinea-pig stomach... -
Altered Cerebral Vasomotion with Decreased CGRP Level in Pial Arteries of Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
KwangHoLee, JaeMoonChoi, KiWhanHong 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 5 573-580 (8 pages)
The study aims to identify the mechanism (s) underlying the altered vasodilatory responses of the pial artery of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) under a hypothesis that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) exerts a modulator role in the autoregulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF). The animals were divided into four groups: 1) Sprague-Dawley rats (SDR), 2) Wistar rats (WR), 3) SHR with high blood pressure (BP≥150 mmHg), and 4) SHR with normotensive BP (≤150 mmHg). The lower limit of... -
Characteristics of Ca2+ Stores in Rabbit Cerebral Artery Myocytes

In a myocyte freshly isolated from rabbit cerebral artery, the characteristics of Ca2 release by histamine or caffeine were studied by microspectrofluorimetry using a Ca2-binding fluorescent dye, fura-2. Histamine (5 ㄍM) or caffeine (10 mM) induced a phasic rise of cytoplasmic free Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]c) which could occur repetitively with extracellular Ca2 but only once or twice in Ca2-free bathing solution. Also, the treatment with... -

This study was undertaken to examine the effects of ultraviolet light (UVL) and rebamipide on the cutaneous blood flow and tissue survival on rabbit skin flap. In a random bipedicle flap, Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) was employed to measure the blood flow of flap (BFF). Wound Margin Strength (WMS) measured by force transducer and Light microscophy were used for evaluation of tissue viability. Single exposure to UVL increased the BFF gradually for more than 15 hours, and decreased the...
