(DMPK) gene on chromosome 19q. DM2 is caused by expansion of CCTG repeats located in the first intron of a gene coding for zinc finger factor 9 on chromosome 3q. The CTG and CCTG expansions are located in untranslated regions and are expressed as pre-mRNAs in nuclei (DM1 and DM2) and as mRNA in cytoplasm (DM1). Investigations of molecular alterations in DM1 discovered a new molecular mechanism responsible for this disease. Expansion of un-translated CUG repeats in the mutant DMPK mRNA disrupts... -
Cytotoxicological Effect of Tebufenozide, an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR): Stimulation of Filamentous Actin Reorganization and Enhancement of Hsp27 Expression in Drosophila Kc Cells
JeeNaHwang, Hwa-JinJung, YoungRokSeo 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.6 10 351-354 (4 pages)
The cytotoxicological responses to insect growth regulator (IGR), using tebufenozide as ecdysteroid mimic, were investigated in Drosophila Kc cells. Treatment of Kc cells with tebufenozide showed significant growth inhibition and striking morphological changes including aggregation and elongation of the cells. In order to understand the cellular mechanism underlying the response of Drosophila cells to tebufenozide, immunofluorescence microscopy was performed. We found that treatment of Kc cells... -
Comparative Study on the Nociceptive Responses Induced by Whole Bee Venom and Melittin
HongKeeShin, KyungHeeLee, SeoEunLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.5 7 281-288 (8 pages)
The present study was undertaken to confirm whether melittin, a major constituent of whole bee venom (WBV), had the ability to produce the same nociceptive responses as those induced by WBV. In the behavioral experiment, changes in mechanical threshold, flinching behaviors and paw thickness (edema) were measured after intraplantar (i.pl.) injection of WBV (0.1 mg & 0.3 mg/paw) and melittin (0.05 mg & 0.15 mg/paw), and intrathecal (i.t.) injection of melittin (6μg). Also studied were the... -
Influence of Cilnidipine on Catecholamine Release in the Perfused Rat Adrenal Medulla
Seong-ChangWoo, Young-JooBaek, Dong-YoonLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.5 5 265-272 (8 pages)
The present study was attempted to investigate the effect of cilnidipine (FRC-8635), which is a newly synthesized novel dihydropyridine (DHP) type of organic Ca2 channel blockers, on secretion of catecholamines (CA) evoked by acetylcholine (ACh), high K, DMPP and McN-A-343 from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland. Cilnidipine (1∼10μM) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min produced relatively dose- and time-dependent inhibition in CA secretory responses evoked by ACh... -
Effect of Mild Hypothermia on the Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases in Experimental Stroke

and its effect has often been attributed to various mechanisms, but it is not yet clear. Upstream from the cell death promoters and executioners are several enzymes that may activate several transcription factors involved in cell death and survival. In this study, we immunohistochemically examined the phosphorylation of mitogen- activated protein kinase, extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 kinase during early period of the ischemic injury, following... -
Kinesin Superfamily KIF5 Proteins Bind to βIII Spectrin

and found a specific interaction with βIII spectrin. The amino acid residues between 1394 and 1774 of βIII spectrin were required for the interaction with KIF5C. βIII spectrin also bound to the tail region of neuronal KIF5A and ubiquitous KIF5B but not to other kinesin family members in the yeast two-hybrid assay. In addition, these proteins showed specific interactions, confirmed by GST pull-down assay and co-immunoprecipitation. βIII spectrin interacted with GST-KIF5 fusion proteins, but... -
Alteration of Immunoreactivity for SNARE Proteins in the Rat Hippocampus after Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion
JungSunPark, PilWooHuh, YeonJooJung, SuJinPark, KyungEunLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.3 4 141-146 (6 pages)
Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors (SNARE) proteins, composed of two presynaptic membrane proteins [synaptosomal-associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) and syntaxin] and a presynaptic vesicular protein [vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP)], serve as a core of exocytotic fusion machinery, which can be affected by ischemia. Synaptic protein in core region, striatum and cortex has been shown to alter after focal ischemia, however, little is known in... -
Activation of Vestibular Neurons Projecting to Autonomic Brain Stem Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

nucleus (IVN) following acute hypotension in the vestibulo- autonomic reflex through vestibulosolitary or vestibuloventrolateral projections. Acute hypotension- induced cFos expression was assessed in combination with retrograde cholera toxin B subunit (CTb) tract tracing. After injection of CTb into the solitary region, CTb-labeled neurons were located prominently around the lateral borders of the caudal MVN and medial border of the IVN. The superior vestibular nucleus also had a scattered... -

transmitter release. The patch-clamp whole-cell recording technique, applied to the calyx of Held presynaptic terminal in brainstem slices of rodents, has made it possible to directly examine intracellular mechanisms underlying the GPCR-mediated presynaptic inhibition. At the calyx of Held, bath-application of agonists for GPCRs such as GABAB receptors, group III metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs), adenosine A1 receptors, or adrenaline α2 receptors, attenuate evoked transmitter release... -
Decreased Expression of PTEN in Olfactory Bulb of Rat Pub after Naris Closure

unilaterally naris-closed, and olfactory bulbs were immunohistochemically analyzed with PTEN antibody at the 7th day after naris closure. PTEN immunoreactivity was found to be down-regulated in both glomerular, external plexiform and subependymal cell layers, suggesting that odor deprivation signals down-regulate expression of PTEN in the olfactory bulb. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to suggest that PTEN expression is regulated by sensory deprivation signals in neonatal...
