Critical Analysis of “Sustainability” in Korean Early Childhood Curriculum from Posthuman Perspectives
Hyunsun Suh 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.3 2 23-45 (23 pages)
This study analyzed how the recently revised Korean early childhood curriculum describes and discusses sustainability through a critical perspective using posthumanism to destabilize anthropocentric thinking and expand the concept of sustainability. The notion of sustainability described in the General Guidelines and Commentaries of the Korean Early Childhood Curriculum reveal limitations and the potential of the ontological, epistemological, and ethical foundations which serve as the basis of... -

COVID-19 might not have severely threatened young children's physical health; however, it has had profound impacts on their sound development and mental health that could have long-lasting effects on their lives. and so on. Data were analysed using statistical methods. The results indicated that by linking the natural environment, landscaping and the built environment, a child-friendly kindergarten can be created and that the importance of the connection between architecture and nature is well represented in the mental images of children through landscaping. The results of study, which are applicable in similar fields, raises architects’ awareness of the importance of collaborative design with children. -

Dinar Nur Inten, Andalusia Neneng Permatasari, Ryan Dwi Puspita 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.2 3 39-61 (23 pages)
Intimate communication between mother and child is very important for optimal and mature child development in the future. This communication can be built when the mother as the main actor in child care takes enough time to involve in various activities carried out and needed by the child in its development. Nowadays, the existence of a corona pandemic requires everyone to stay at home, no exception for mothers who usually work in the office. Thus, this condition has an important role in... -
Mobilising Pacific Indigenous knowledges to reconceptualise a sustainable future: A Pasifika early childhood education perspective.
Jacoba Matapo 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 18 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.1 7 119-136 (18 pages)
The proliferation of sustainability discourse in early childhood education reveals deeply rooted epistemic tensions regarding the position of humanist ideology and the relationship to the natural world. This article argues for a reconceptualising of sustainability pedagogy in early childhood education, through the embodied and embedded ontologies Pacific Indigenous knowledge systems offer. The 'endangerment' discourse relevant to human and non-human others, is called into question, particularly... -

Dandan Zhou 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 14 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.1 5 77-90 (14 pages)
environmental education as an aspect of ESD had been included in the kindergarten curriculum in China, which was conducted through teacher-initiated group activity and daily routines. However, not much attention had been paid to the social dimension and especially the economic dimension. This paper argues that the implementation of ESD in kindergartens in China should involve more dimensions to equip children with the knowledge of sustainable development of the environment, society, and economy. -

The study used a process of document analysis and individual interviews with teachers and parents to collect data. The incorporation of “Western” education approaches is not a new phenomenon in China. This paper uses empirical findings to highlight new concerns regarding this ongoing practice. It analyses the tensions... -

4-5 in a local kindergarten. Children inquired about the wise use of paper through conversations, experimenting, and play. Old newspapers offered pedagogical resources and inspiration that contributed to children’s understanding of environmental sustainability. Besides revealing the shared and co-created learning experiences about, in, and for the environment (Davis, 1998, 2009), this story revived hidden cultural heritage and intergenerational connections in families in the social dimension.
