Effects of Ethosuximide on the Pilocarpine Induced Seizure in Rat Model of Neuronal Migration Disorder
Byung-KonKim, In-SunChoi, Jin-HwaCho, Il-SungJang, Maan-GeeLeeByung-JuChoi 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.5 3 235-242 (8 pages)
Cortical malformation-associated epileptic seizures are resistant to conventional anticonvulsant drugs. Relatively little research has been conducted on the effects of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) on seizure activity in a rat model of dysplasia. We have used rats exposed to methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) in utero, an animal model featuring nodular heterotopia, to investigate the effects of ethosuximide (ETX) in the dysplastic brain. Pilocarpine was used to induce acute seizure in MAM-exposed... -
Gene Expression Profile in Microglia following Ischemia- Reperfusion Injury
JuHyeonOh, HyungSooHan, JaeSikPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 2 173-180 (8 pages)
Microglial activation is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of many brain disorders. Therefore, understanding the response of microglia to noxious stimuli may provide insights into their role in disorders such as stroke and neurodegeneration. Many genes involved in this response have been identified individually, but not systematically. In this regards, the microarray system permitted to screen a large number of genes in biological or pathological processes. Therefore, we used microarray... -
Effects of Zinc on Spontaneous Miniature GABA Release in Rat Hippocampal CA3 Pyramidal Neurons
Byung-JuChoi, Il-SungJang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

in Ca2-free external solution or in the presence of 100μM 4-aminopyridine, a non-selective K channel blocker. The results suggest that Zn2 at lower concentrations depolarizes GABAergic nerve terminals by blocking K channels and increases the probability of spontaneous GABA release. This Zn2-mediated modulation of spontaneous GABAergic transmission is likely to play an important role in the regulation of neuronal excitability within the hippocampal CA3 area. -
Melittin-induced Nociceptive Responses are Alleviated by Cyclooxygenase-1 Inhibitor
JoohyunKim, HongKeeShin, KyungHeeLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

in mechanical threshold, flinchings and paw thickness were measured before and after intraplantar injection of melittin in the rat hind paw. Also studied were the effects of intraperitonealy administered diclofenac (25 mg & 50 mg/kg), piroxicam (10 mg & 20 mg/kg) and meloxicam (10 mg & 20 mg/kg) on the melittin-induced nociceptions. Intraplantar injection of melittin caused marked reduction of mechanical threshold that was dose-dependently attenuated by non-selective COX inhibitor... -
5-Hydroxytryptamine Inhibits Glutamatergic Synaptic Transmission in Rat Corticostriatal Brain Slice

receives glutamatergic input from wide area of the cerebral cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from the raphe nuclei. In our study, the effects of 5-HT on synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro whole-cell recording technique. 5-HT inhibited the amplitude as well as frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSC) significantly, and neither γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA)A receptor antagonist... -

mechanical threshold and flinching behaviors were measured after the injection of WBV (0.04 mg or 0.1 mg/paw) and melittin (0.02 mg or 0.05 mg/paw) into the mid-plantar area of a rat hindpaw. MK-801 and CNQX (6-cyano-7-nitroquinoxaline-2,3-dione disodium) were administered intrathecally (i.t. 10μg) or i.pl.(15μg) 15 min before or i.t. 60 min after i.pl. WBV and melittin injection. Intrathecal pre- and post- administration of MK-801 and CNQX significantly attenuated the ability of high dose WBV... -
Morphine-induced Modulation of Nociceptive Spinal Dorsal Horn Neuronal Activities after Formalin-induced Inflammatory Pain

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 2 77-86 (10 pages)
In this study, we examined the morphine-induced modulation of the nociceptive spinal dorsal horn neuronal activities before and after formalin-induced inflammatory pain. Intradermal injection of formalin induced time-dependent changes in the spontaneous activity of nociceptive dorsal horn neurons. In naïve cats before the injection of formalin, iontophoretically applied morphine attenuated the naturally and electrically evoked neuronal responses of dorsal horn neurons. However, neuronal... -

Serotonin (5-hydroxytroptamine, 5-HT) has been shown to affect the induction of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the cortex such as the hippocampus, the visual cortex and the prefrontal cortex. Fluoxetine, as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, is used in the management of a wide variety of psychological diseases. To study the effect of fluoxetine on the induction of LTP, we recorded the field potential in layer II/III of the frontal cortex from 3-wk-old. LTP was induced in horizontal input... -

Single unit responses of the ventral posterior medial (VPM) thalamic neurons to stimulation were monitored in anesthetized rats during activation of contralateral primary somatosensory (SI) cortex by GABA antagonist. The temporal changes of afferent sensory transmission were quantitatively analyzed by poststimulus time histogram (PSTH). Mainly, afferent sensory transmission to VPM thalamus was facilitated (15 neurons of total 23) by GABA antagonist (bicuculline) applied to contralateral cortex,...
