Interconnected meso/microporous carbon derived from pumpkin seeds as an efficient electrode material for supercapacitors
Mayakrishnan Gopiraman, Somasundaram Saravanamoorthy, Seung-Hyun Kim, Ill-Min Chung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 10 73-81 (9 pages)
m2 g?1) with excellent pore volumes (0.27?1.30 cm3 g?1). The wellcondensed graphitic structure of the prepared activated carbon materials was confirmed by Raman and X-ray diffraction analyses. The presence of heteroatoms (O and N) in the carbon materials was confirmed by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. High resolution transmission electron microscopic images and selected area diffraction patters further revealed the porous structure and amorphous nature of the prepared electrode materials. The... -
Relationships between dielectric properties and characteristics of impregnated and activated samples of potassium carbonate- and sodium hydroxide-modified palm kernel shell for microwave-assisted activation
Norulaina Alias, Muhammad Abbas Ahmad Zaini, Mohd Johari Kamaruddin 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 9 62-72 (11 pages)
The aim of this work was to evaluate the dielectric properties of impregnated and activated palm kernel shells (PKSs) samples using two activating agents, potassium carbonate (K2CO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), at three impregnation ratios. The materials were characterized by moisture content, carbon content, ash content, thermal profile and functional groups. The dielectric properties were examined using an open-ended coaxial probe method at various microwave frequencies (1?6 GHz) and... -
Improvement of gas sensing properties of carbon nanofibers based on polyacrylonitrile and pitch by steam activation
Jeongsik Kim, Hyung-Il Kim, Jumi Yun 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 5 36-40 (5 pages)
nanofibers were activated with steam at various temperatures followed by subsequent carbonization to make carbon nanofibers with a highly conductive graphitic structure. Steam activation was effective in facilitating gas adsorption onto the carbon nanofibers due to the increased surface area. The carbon nanofibers activated at 800°C had a larger surface area and a lower micro pore fraction resulting in a higher variation in electrical resistance for improved CO gas sensing properties. -
Applications of carbon-based materials in solid phase micro-extraction: a review
Jian Guo, Soo-Jin Park, Long-Yue Meng, Xinghua Jin 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 2 10-17 (8 pages)
With continuous development in the field of sample preparation technology, solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) has been widely used in analytical chemistry for high extraction efficiency and convenient operation. Different materials lead to different extraction results. Among existing materials, carbon-based materials are still attracting attention from scientists due to their excellent physical and chemical properties as well as their modifiable surfaces, which could enhance the adsorption... -
Facile fabrication of electrospun polyacrylonitrile/ poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based carbon nanofibers for supercapacitor electrodes
Hyo In Lee, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 12 79-83 (5 pages)
Energy storage devices and renewable energy sources are some of the most interesting alternatives being developed to solve the energy crisis [1,2]. At the same time, energy harvesting and storage devices are among the technologies with the highest potential to efficiently satisfy the energy requirements of compact electronic devices [3]. Among various energy storage devices, supercapacitors are the among the most intensely researched because of their high power density, long cycle retention, and... -
Lyocell-based activated carbon fibers improved the adsorption of harmful gas properties when produced via dual-simultaneous treatments
Byong Chol Bai, Ji Sun Im, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 10 69-73 (5 pages)
In gas adsorption processes, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) are used for the adsorption of the harmful gases that are generated by coal or oil combustion, and they have been widely studied [1,2]. ACFs have been used for harmful gas removal because of their specific surface area, micropores, reproducibility, safety, and processing ability, which are beneficial properties for a wide range of applications [3,4]. -
Adsorption of Nile Blue A from aqueous solution by different nanostructured carbon adsorbents
Shahryar Abbasi, Hadi Noorizadeh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 5 30-37 (8 pages)
Dyes are widely used in various industries including textile, cosmetic, paper, plastics, rubber, and coating, and their discharge into waterways causes serious environmental and health problems. Four different carbon nanostructures, graphene oxide, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes, activated carbon and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, were used as adsorbents for the removal of Nile Blue A (NBA) dye from aqueous solution. The four carbon nanostructures were characterized by scanning electron... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 2 9-16 (8 pages)
capacitive behaviors, achieved by successfully combining electrical double-layer capacitance with pseudo-capacitance behaviors. The nitrogen doping content of the fabricated NOMC reached 7.4 at% while its specific surface area (SBET) and total pore volume reached 778 m2 g?1 and 1.17 cm3 g?1, respectively. A dual mesoporous structure with small mesopores centered at 3.6 nm and large mesopores centered at 9.9 nm was observed. The specific capacitance of the reported materials reached up to 328 F... -

Daeyeon Kim, Jinsil Cheon, Jeonghoon Kim, Daekyun Hwang, Ikpyo Hong, Oh Hyeong Kwon, Won Ho Park, Donghwan Cho 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 14 81-88 (8 pages)
In the present study, biomass-based lignin was extracted from industrial waste black liquor and the extracted lignin was characterized by means of attenuated total reflectance- Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The extracted lignin was carbonized at different temperatures and then activated with steam at 850oC. The extracted lignin in powder state was transformed into a bulky carbonized lignin due to possible fusion between the lignin... -

Due to the increasing population growth of modern society, along with rapid industrial development and urbanization, environmental pollution continues to worsen and has become an important issue, not only domestically but also worldwide. In particular, toxic substances such as heavy metal ions are present in the wastewater produced by various industries. This wastewater flows into rivers, pollutes water supplies, and can contaminate the drinking water supplied to people [1-3]. Powder or...
