Functional activities of the Tsh protein from avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) strains
Renata K. T. Kobayashi, Luis Carlos J. Gaziri, Marilda C. Vidotto* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 6 315-319 (5 pages)
proteins of APEC. The 106 kDa protein was more evident when the bacteria were grown at 37C in mucin agar, and it was not detected when the bacteria were grown at 26C in any of the culture media used in this study. Chicken anti-Tsh serum inhibited hemagglutinating and mucinolytic activities of strain APEC13 and recombinant E. coli BL21/pET101-Tsh. This work suggests that the mucinolytic activity of Tsh might be important for the colonization of the avian tracheal mucous environment by APEC. -
Conditional knockout of brca1/2 and p53 in mouse ovarian surface epithelium: Do they play a role in ovarian carcinogenesis?
Ki-Yon Kim, Dong Wook Park, Eui-Bae Jeung, Kyung-Chul Choi* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages

are known to be critical for the induction of tumorigenesis, but the mechanism of ovarian carcinogenesis is little understood and remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the roles of brca1, brca2 and p53 genes in the development of ovarian cancer using conditional knockout mice generated by a Cre-loxP recombinant system. Following the application of recombinant adenovirus expressing Cre in vitro, the proliferation of ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) was increased. For instance,... -
Antigenic and immunogenic investigation of the virulence motif of the Newcastle disease virus fusion protein

sera also showed reactivity to peptides bearing other virulence motifs (KRQKRF, RRQRRF and RRRKRF) but not an avirulence motif (GRQGRL) by ELISA. The synthetic bearing RRQKRF motif reacted with 60% to 91% of sera taken from surviving chickens on ND outbreak farms but not with sera from vaccinated birds, even though most of the sera had antibody to NDV due to vaccination. This indicates that the virulence motif has the potential to differentiate virulent NDV infected birds from vaccinated birds. -
Role of PKG-L-type calcium channels in the antinociceptive effect of intrathecal sildenafil
Woong Mo Kim, Myung Ha Yoon, Jin Hua Cui 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 2호 2 103-106 (4 pages)
produced an antinociceptive effect during phase 1 (0∼10 min interval) and phase 2 (10∼60 min interval) in the formalin test. Intrathecal KT 5823 and FPL 64176 attenuated the antinociceptive effect of sildenafil during both phases. Sildenafil is effective against both acute pain and the facilitated pain state at the spinal level. In addition, the inhibition of an L-type calcium channel by activation of the PKG may contribute to the antinocieptive mechanism of sildenafil in the spinal cord. -
Transcriptional and translational expression of calbindin-D9k in the duodenum, kidney and uterus of a female canine model

the intestine, uterus, placenta, kidney, pituitary gland and bone. Its exact function is unknown, but it is considered to regulate intracytoplasmic concentration and transport of free ions (Ca2+). CaBP-9k protein is involved in intestinal calcium absorption in the intestine and in the regulation of myometrial activity by intracellular calcium in the uterus. Renal CaBP-9k protein is expressed at the site of calcium re-absorption in the kidney and expressed in distal convoluted tubules, where it... -
Effects of mosapride on motility of the small intestine and caecum in normal horses after jejunocaecostomy
Kouichi Okamura, Naoki Sasaki*, Takuya Kikuchi, Aya Murata, Inhyung Lee, Haruo Yamada, Hisashi Inokuma 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 10 157-160 (4 pages)
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the prokinetic effects of mosapride with non-invasive assessment of myoelectrical activity in the small intestine and caecum of healthy horses after jejunocaecostomy. Six horses underwent celiotomy and jejunocaecostomy, and were treated with mosapride (treated group) at 1.5 mg/kg per osos once daily for 5 days after surgery. The other six horses did not receive treatment and were used as controls (non-treated group). The electrointestinography... -
The role of Bcl-xL and nuclear factor-kB in the effect of taxol on the viability of dendritic cells
Mi-Hyoung Kim, Hong-Gu Joo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 2 99-103 (5 pages)
confirmed that NF-kB was intimately involved in the effects of taxol on DC viability. In addition, we investigated the mechanisms of taxol enhancement of DC viability. Since taxol is a popular anticancer agent used in clinic, this study may provide a rationale for the use of taxol in DC immunotherapy to treat cancer patients. Taken together, these results confirm that taxol increases DC viability, and this information may provide new insights for new clinical applications of both taxol and DCs. -
Distribution and ontogeny of gastrin- and serotonin-immunoreactive cells in the proventriculus of developing chick, Gallus gallus domestica
Abdulkerim Aksoy*, Kenan Cinar 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 1호 2 9-13 (5 pages)
The ontogeny and distribution of gastrin- and serotonin- immunoreactive (IR) cell in the proventriculus of chicks (Gallus gallus domestica, n = 60) in different growth periods was examined immunohistochemically using antisera specific to gastrin and serotonin. Gastrin and serotonin-IR cells were detected in chick proventriculus. Gastrin-IR cells were first evident after 12 days of incubation in lamina epithelialis and compound glands, while serotonin-IR cells were observed only in compound... -
Radioprotective effects of fucoidan on bone marrow cells: improvement of the cell survival and immunoreactivity
Yun-Young Byon, Mi-Hyoung Kim, Eun-Sook Yoo, Kyu-Kye Hwang, Youngheun Jee, Taekyun Shin, Hong-Gu Joo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 4호 4 359-366 (8 pages)
viability of fucoidan-treated BMCs was attributed to the inhibition of radiation-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, fucoidan altered the production of immune-related cytokines from BMCs and increased the capability of BMCs to induce proliferation of allogeneic splenocytes. Taken together, our study demonstrated that fucoidan has radioprotective effects on BMCs with respect to cell viability and immunoreactivity. These results may provide valuable information, useful in the field of radiotherapy. -

individual (adults) and pooled (larvae and nymphs) samples], 369 rodents (Apodemus agrarius, Rattus norvegicus, Tscherskia triton, Mus musculus, and Myodes regulus), and 34 shrews (Crocidura lasiura) that were collected in northern Gyeonggi-do near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) of Korea during 2004-2005, were assayed by PCR for selected zoonotic pathogens. From a total of 420 individual and pooled tick DNA samples, Anaplasma (A.)phagocytophilum (16), A. platys (16), Ehrlichia (E.)chaffeensis (63...
