Seong In Lim, Wooseog Jeong, Dong Seob Tark, Dong Kun Yang, Chang Hee Kweon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 9 331-336 (6 pages)
Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) envelope glycoprotein (gp51/ gp30T-), consisting of BLV gp51 and BLV gp30 that lacked its C-terminal transmembrane domain, was expressed in insect cells under the control of the baculovirus polyhedron promoter. Recombinant BLV gp51/gp30T- secreted from insect cells was determined by immunofluorescence, enzyme- linked immunosorbent and western blot assays using a BLV-specific monoclonal antibody and BLV-positive bovine antibodies. An agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID)... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 8 147-151 (5 pages)
This report deals with the acute onset of an abortion outbreak and high sow mortality in one pig herd consisted of 1,200 pigs and 120 sows on Jeju Island, Korea. Affected pregnant sows showed clinical signs, including high fever, gradual anorexia, vomiting, depression, recumbency, prostration, abortion, and a few deaths. Four dead sows, five aborted fetuses from the same litter, and 17 sera collected from sows infected or normal were submitted to the Pathology Division of the National Veterinary... -
Genetic variability of the prion protein gene (PRNP) in wild ruminants from Italy and Scotland
Simone Peletto*, Matteo Perucchini, Cristina Acín, Mark P. Dalgleish, Hugh W. Reid, Roberto Rasero, Paola Sacchi, Paula Ste 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 4 115-120 (6 pages)
The genetics of the prion protein gene (PRNP) play a crucial role in determining the relative susceptibility to transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in several mammalian species. To determine the PRNP gene variability in European red deer (Cervus elaphus), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) and chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), the PRNP open reading frame from 715 samples was analysed to reveal a total of ten single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In red deer, SNPs were found in codons 15,... -
Seroprevalence and risk factors for bovine brucellosis in Jordan
Ahmad M. Al-Majali*, Abdelsalam Q. Talafha, Mustafa M. Ababneh, Mohammed M. Ababneh 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 1호 9 61-65 (5 pages)
We investigated the seroprevalence and risk factors for Brucella seropositivity in cattle in Jordan. The sera from 671 cows were randomly collected from 62 herds. The antibodies against Brucella were detected using a Rose Bengal plate test and indirect ELISA. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information on the cattle herds' health and management. A multiple logistic regression model was constructed to identify the risk factors for Brucella seropositivity. The true prevalence of... -

Lesions contained massive fibrous septae with vacuolar changes in some lesions, and the hypercontraction and rupturing of muscle bundles, with replacement by eosinophils. Necrosis and severe eosinophil infiltration were observed. Sarcoplasmic fragmentation and atrophy developed. Typical of granuloma, calcified myofibers were focally surrounded by macrophages and numerous... -
Low numbers of intestinal Shiga toxin-producing E. coli correlate with a poor prognosis in sheep infected with bovine leukemia virus
Witold A. Ferens, Julius Haruna, Rowland Cobbold, Carolyn J. Hovde* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 4호 6 375-380 (6 pages)
Healthy ruminants carry intestinal Shiga toxin (Stx)- producing Escherichia coli (STEC). Stx has antiviral activities in vitro and STEC numbers correlate with reduced early viremia in sheep experimentally infected with bovine leukemia virus (BLV). This study assessed the impact of intestinal STEC on BLV-induced disease for one year post-BLV-challenge. High STEC scores (CFU/g feces × frequency of STEC-positive samples) correlated with good health, whereas poor weight gain, distress, and...
