Correlation between mEPSC Amplitude and Rise Time upon the Blockade of AMPA Receptor Desensitization at Hippocampal Synapses
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 3 81-86 (6 pages)
regulation often occurs in non-neuronal cells where the dynamics of fusion-pore opening is critical for the speed of transmitter release. In case of synapses, the slower the transmitter release, the smaller the size and rate-of-rise of postsynaptic responses would be expected if postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptors were not saturated. This prediction was tested at hippocampal synapses where postsynaptic AMPA-type glutamate receptors (AMPAR) were not generally saturated. Here, we found that t... -
Noradrenergic Modulation of Spontaneous Inhibitory Postsynaptic Currents in the Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 2 71-80 (10 pages)
Previous studies have suggested that brain stem noradrenergic inputs differentially modulate neurons in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN). Here, we compared the effects of norepinephrine (NE) on spontaneous GABAergic inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) in identified PVN neurons using slice patch technique. In 17 of 18 type I neurons, NE (30∼100μM) reversibly decreased sIPSC frequency to 41⁑7% of the baseline value (4.4⁑0.8 Hz, p<0.001). This effect was blocked by yohimbine... -
Muscarine M2 Receptor-mediated Presynaptic Inhibition of GABAergic Transmission in Rat Meynert Neurons
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 1 63-70 (8 pages)
Cholinergic modulation of GABAergic spontaneous miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs) by the activation of muscarine receptors was investigated in mechanically dissociated rat nucleus basalis of the Meynert neurons using the conventional whole-cell patch recording configuration. Muscarine (10μM) reversibly and concentration-dependently decreased mIPSC frequency without affecting the current amplitude distribution. Muscarine action on GABAergic mIPSCs was completely blocked by... -
The Effect of NO Donor on Contraction, Cytosolic Ca2+ Level and Ionic Currents in Guinea-pig Ileal Smooth Muscle

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 5 33-40 (8 pages)
This study was designed to clarify the mechanism of the inhibitory action of a nitric oxide (NO) donor, 3-morpholino-sydnonimine (SIN-1), on contraction, cytosolic Ca2 level ([Ca2]i), and ionic currents in guinea-pig ileum. SIN-1 (0.01∼100μM) inhibited 25 mM KCl- or histamine (10μM)-induced contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. SIN-1 reduced both the 25 mM KCl- and the histamine-stimulated increases in muscle tension in parallel with decreased [Ca2]i. Using... -
Temporal Changes in Neuronal Activity of the Bilateral Medial Vestibular Nuclei Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.5 4 481-490 (10 pages)
the changes in the responses of vestibular neurons with time during vestibular compensation, the resting activity and dynamic responses of type I and II neurons in the medial vestibular nuclei to sinusoidal angular acceleration were recorded following unilateral labyrinthectomy (ULX) in Sprague-Dawley rats. The unitary extracellular neuronal activity was recorded from the bilateral medial vestibular nuclei with stainless steel microelectrodes of 3∼5 MΩ before ULX, and 6, 24, 48, 72 hours, and... -

subtype, which predominantly consists of flop splice variants. GABAA and GABAC receptors coexist in bipolar cells and they both show significant desensitization. Kinetics analysis demonstrated that activation, deactivation and desensitization of the GABAC receptor-mediated response of these cells are overall slower than those of the GABAA response. Endogenous modulator Zn2 in the retina was found to differentially modulate the kinetic characteristics of the GABAC and GABAA responses. -
Enhanced Expression of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase May Be Responsible for Altered Vascular Reactivity in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.4 2 375-382 (8 pages)
Growing evidence indicates that enhanced generation or actions of nitric oxide (NO) are implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats and diabetic nephropathy in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. We investigated whether inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in STZ-induced diabetic rats is responsible for the alterations of vascular reactivity. Diabetic state was confirmed 28 days after injection of STZ (i.p) in rats by measuring blood... -
The Effects of Sera from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Patients on Neuromuscular Transmission and Calcium Channels in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 17 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 13 101-117 (17 pages)
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a degenerative neuromuscular disease of unknown etiology in which the upper and lower motor neurons are progressively destroyed. Recent evidences support the role of autoimmune mechanisms in the pathogenesis of ALS. This study investigated the effects of sera from ALS patients on neuromuscular transmission in phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm preparations and on calcium currents of single isolated dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells in mice. Mice were injected with... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 8 601-609 (9 pages)
The present study was undertaken to examine the role of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in oxidant-induced inhibition of phosphate transport in primary cultured rabbit renal proximal tubule cells. Uptakes of phosphate and glucose were dose-dependently inhibited by an oxidant t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP), and the significant inhibition appeared at 0.025 mM of tBHP, whereas tBHP-induced alterations in lipid peroxidation and cell viability were seen at 0.5 mM. tBHP stimulated arachidonic acid (AA) release... -

To evaluate the possibility that the ginseng saponins could be developed as an anti-arteriosclerotic agent, we examined the inhibitory effects of ginseng saponins (total saponin[TS], panaxatriol[PT], panaxadiol[PD]) on the expression of c-fos mRNA and the proliferation of cultured rat aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) stimulated by angiotensin II (Ang II). TS and PT (1.0 mg/ml) suppressed c-fos mRNA induction in VSMCs stimulated by 10-5 M Ang II. The order of inhibitory potency was...
