Calcium Sensitization Induced by Sodium Fluoride in Permeabilized Rat Mesenteric Arteries
EnyueYang, JoonYongCho, UyDongSohn, InKyeomKim, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.1 8 51-57 (7 pages)
It was hypothesized that NaF induces calcium sensitization in Ca2+-controlled solution in permeabilized rat mesenteric arteries. Rat mesenteric arteries were permeabilized with Ղ- escin and subjected to tension measurement. NaF potentiated the concentration-response curves to Ca2+ (decreased EC50 and increased Emax). Cumulative addition of NaF (4.0, 8.0 and 16 mM) also increased vascular tension in Ca2+-controlled solution at pCa 7.0 or pCa 6.5, but not at pCa 8.0. NaF-induced... -
Intraocular Injection of Muscimol Induces Illusory Motion Reversal in Goldfish
Sang-YoonLee, Chang-SubJung 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 10 469-473 (5 pages)
Induced activation of the gamma-aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) receptor in the retina of goldfish caused the fish to rotate in the opposite direction to that of the spinning pattern during an optomotor response (OMR) measurement. Muscimol, a GABAA receptor agonist, modified OMR in a concentration- dependent manner. The GABAB receptor agonist baclofen and GABAC receptor agonist CACA did not affect OMR. The observed modifications in OMR included decreased anterograde rotation... -
Diclofenac, a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug, Inhibits L-type Ca2+ Channels in Neonatal Rat Ventricular Cardiomyocytes
OlegV.Yarishkin, EunMiHwang, DonggyuKim, JaeChealYoo, SangSooKang, DeokRyoungKim, Jae-Hee-JungShin, Hye-JooChung, Ho-SangJeong, DawonKang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) has many adverse effects including cardiovascular (CV) risk. Diclofenac among the nonselective NSAIDs has the highest CV risk such as congestive heart failure, which resulted commonly from the impaired cardiac pumping due to a disrupted excitation- contraction (E-C) coupling. We investigated the effects of diclofenac on the L-type calcium channels which are essential to the E-C coupling at the level of single ventricular myocytes isolated from... -

the sensitivity of staining varies depending on the commercial source of primary antibody. In addition, we showed that a biotin-free signal amplification method using a horseradish peroxidase polymer-conjugated secondary antibody increases both the sensitivity and specificity of ICH analysis. Furthermore, we demonstrated that dye filtration using a 0.22Ռm filter eliminates or minimizes nonspecific staining while preserving the analytical sensitivity. These results suggest that our protocol... -
Social Isolation Selectively Increases Anxiety in Mice without Affecting Depression-like Behavior
ChuljungKwak, Sue-HyunLee, Bong-KiunKaang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.5 4 357-360 (4 pages)
It is hypothesized that a number of environmental factors affect animals' behavior. Without controlling these variables, it is very hard for researchers to get not only reliable, but replicable data from various behavioral experiments testing animals' cognitive as well as emotional functions. For example, laboratory mice which had restricted environment showed different synaptic potentiation properties with wild mice (Zhao MG et al., 2009). While performing behavioral experiments, however, it is... -
The Inhibitory Effect of Quercetin-3-O-β-D-Glucuronopyranoside on Gastritis and Reflux Esophagitis in Rats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.4 5 295-300 (6 pages)
It was evaluated the inhibitory action of quercetin-3-O-Ղ-D-glucuronopyranoside (QGC) on reflux esophagitis and gastritis in rats. QGC was isolated from the herba of Rumex Aquaticus. Reflux esophagitis or gastritis was induced surgically or by administering indomethacin, respectively. Oral QGC decreased ulcer index, injury area, gastric volume, and acid output and increased gastric pH as compared with quercetin. Furthermore, QGC significantly decreased gastric lesion sizes induced by... -
Inhibition of Arterial Myogenic Responses by a Mixed Aqueous Extract of Salvia Miltiorrhiza and Panax Notoginseng (PASEL) Showing Antihypertensive Effects

The dried roots of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) and Sanchi (Panax notoginseng) have been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for promoting blood circulation as well as various other bodily functions. Here we investigated the effects of a mixture of aqueous extracts of Danshen and Sanchi, named PASEL, on blood pressure and vascular contractility in rats. Orally administered PASEL (62.5 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg, for 5 weeks) lowered the blood pressure of spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) but... -

This study aimed to investigate whether selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) attenuate brain injury and facilitate recovery following photothrombotic cortical ischemia in mice. Male ICR mice were anesthetized and systemically administered Rose Bengal. Permanent focal ischemia was induced in the medial frontal and somatosensory cortices by irradiating the skull with cold light laser. The animals were treated with fluoxetine or sertraline once a day for 14 d starting 1 h after ischemic... -
Flavone Attenuates Vascular Contractions by Inhibiting RhoA/Rho Kinase Pathway
InjiBaek, SuBunJeon, Min-JiSong, EnyueYang, UyDongSohn, InKyeomKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 10 201-207 (7 pages)
Our previous study demonstrated that flavone inhibits vascular contractions by decreasing the phosphorylation levelof the myosin phosphatase target subunit (MYPT1). In the present study, we hypothesized that flavone attenuates vascular contractions through the inhibition of the RhoA/Rho kinase pathway. Rat aortic rings were denuded of endothelium, mounted in organ baths, and contracted with either 30 nM U46619 (a thromboxane A2 analogue) or 8.0 mM NaF 30 min after pretreatment with either... -

contraction, cytosolic Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i), and Ca2+ sensitivity in guinea pig ileum. Forskolin (0.1 nM∼10ՌM) inhibited high K+ (25 mM and 40 mM)- or histamine (3ՌM)-evoked contractions in a concentration- dependent manner. Histamine-evoked contractions were more sensitive to forskolin than high K+- evoked contractions. Spontaneous changes in [Ca2+]i and contractions were inhibited by forskolin (1ՌM) without changing the resting [Ca2+]i. Forskoln (10ՌM) inhibited...
