Woong Yoon, Min Young Lee, Jung Min Ryu, Yong Ju Moon, Sang Hun Lee, Jae Hong Park, Seung Pil Yun, Min Woo Jang, Sung Su Park, H 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 2 9-13 (5 pages)
Multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) provides anatomical information about the kidney and other internal organs. Presently, the suitability of 64-channel MDCT to assess the kidney of healthy micropigs was evaluated. Morphological evaluations of the kidney and the major renal vessels of six healthy micropigs were carried out using MDCT, recording kidney volume and the diameter and length of renal arteries and veins. The mean diameters and lengths of the renal artery were 0.44 ± 0.05 and... -
Antipruritic effect of curcumin on histamine-induced itching in mice

Itching is a common clinical symptom of skin disease that significantly affects a patient’s quality of life. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptors of keratinocytes and peripheral nerve fibers in skin are involved in the regulation of itching as well as pain. In this study, we investigated whether curcumin, which acts on TRPV1 receptors, affects histamine-induced itching in mice, using behavioral tests and electrophysiological approaches. We found that histamine-induced... -
Dehydroevodiamine·HCl enhances cognitive function in memory-impaired rat models

Progressive memory impairment such as that associated with depression, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) can interfere with daily life. In particular, AD, which is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, prominently features a memory and learning impairment that is related to changes in acetylcholine and abnormal β-amyloid (Aβ) deposition in the brain. In the present study, we investigated the effects of dehydroevodiamine·HCl (DHED) on cognitive improvement and the related mechanism in... -
Facilitation of serotonin-induced contraction of rat mesenteric artery by ketamine

Ketamine is an anesthetic with hypertensive effects, which make it useful for patients at risk of shock. However, previous ex vivo studies reported vasodilatory actions of ketamine in isolated arteries. In this study, we reexamined the effects of ketamine on arterial tones in the presence and absence of physiological concentrations of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) by measuring the isometric tension of endothelium-denuded rat mesenteric arterial rings. Ketamine little... -
Alteration of Striatal Tetrahydrobiopterin in Iron-Induced Unilateral Model of Parkinson’s Disease

of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) during the disease progression induces the aggravation of dopaminergic neurodegeneration in striatum. It had been established that the direct administration of BH4 into neuron would induce the neuronal toxicity in vitro. To elucidate a role of BH4 in patho-genesis in the PD in vivo, we assessed the changes of dopamine (DA) and BH4 at striatum in unilateral intranigral iron infused PD rat model. The ipsistriatal DA and BH4 levels were significantly increased at 0.5 to... -
Neuroprotective Effects of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase on Scopolamine Induced Memory Impairment

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.4 11 331-338 (8 pages)
AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an important regulator of energy metabolism, is activated in response to cellular stress when intracellular levels of AMP increase. We investigated the neuroprotective effects of AMPK against scopolamine-induced memory impairment in vivo and glutamate-induced cytotoxicity in vitro. An adenovirus expressing AMPK wild type alpha subunit (WT) or a dominant negative form (DN) was injected into the hippocampus of rats using a stereotaxic apparatus. The AMPK... -

were increased. Gor the EPM, treatment with GR increased the time spent in the open arms (p<0.001) as compared to that of the control group. Moreover, GR treatment also normalized the increases of the TH expression in the LC (p<0.001). In conclusion, administration of GR improved spatial learning and memory and reduced stress-induced anxiety. Thus, the present results suggest that GR has the potential to attenuate the behavioral and neurochemical impairments caused by stress. -
Effects of Erythropoietin on Memory Deficits and Brain Oxidative Stress in the Mouse Models of Dementia

The levels of brain thio-barbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were estimated to assess degree of oxidative stress. Brain acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) activity was also measured. Scopolamine/streptozotocin administration induced significant impairment of learning and memory in mice as indicated by marked decrease in Morris water-maze performance. Scopolamine/streptozotocin administration also produced a significant enhancement of brain AChE activity and... -
Loss of hsp70.1 Decreases Functional Motor Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury in Mice
HyunJeongKim, Ji-InJung, YoungkyungKim, Jae-SeonLee, YoungWookYoon, JunesunKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are specifically induced by various forms of stress. Hsp70.1, a member of the hsp70 family is known to play an important role in cytoprotection from stressful insults. However, the functional role of Hsp70 in motor function after spinal cord injury (SCI) is still unclear. To study the role of hsp70.1 in motor recovery following SCI, we assessed locomotor function in hsp70.1 knockout (KO) mice and their wild-type (WT) mice via the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB)... -
Mechanical Stretch-Induced Protection against Myocardial Ischemia- Reperfusion Injury Involves AMP-Activated Protein Kinase
JiaHao, Hun-SikKim, WoongChoi, TaeSunHa, Hee-YulAhn, Chan-HyungKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.1 1 1-9 (9 pages)
AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) protects various tissues and cells from ischemic insults and is activated by many stimuli including mechanical stretch. Therefore, this study investigated if the activation of AMPK is involved in stretch-induced cardioprotection (SIC). Intraventricular balloon and aorto-caval shunt (ACS) were used to stretch rat hearts ex vivo and in vivo, respectively. Stretch preconditioning reduced myocardial infarct induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) and improved...
