were taken on these days after animals had been immobilization in a trunk contention for 5 min. Stress was followed by analyzing serum cortisol levels. These peaked on the 45th day and then decreased, but not to baseline, on the 60th day. On the 45th day cortisol levels were significantly lower in animals fed Matricaria chamomilla CH12, suggesting that this product reduces stress. These effects may be a consequence of its inhibiting cortisol production and its calming and anxiolytic effects.. -
Glutamate and GABA concentrations in the cerebellum of novel ataxic mutant Pogo mice

mutant that arose spontaneously in the inbred KJR/MsKist strain derived originally from Korean wild mice. The ataxic phenotype is characterized by difficulty in maintaining posture and side to side stability, faulty coordination between limbs and trunk, and the consequent inability to walk straight. In the present study, the cerebellar concentrations of glutamate and GABA were analyzed, since glutamate is a most prevalent excitatory neurotransmitter whereas γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is one of... -
Effects of Electroacupuncture on Minimum Alveolar Concentration of Isoflurane and Cardiovascular System in Isoflurane Anesthetized Dogs
Seong-Mok Jeong 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 8 193-201 (9 pages)
The effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) and on the cardiovascular system were evaluated with dogs under isoflurane anesthesia. Eight healthy male beagles were randomly assigned to six study groups (five heads/group) with washout intervals of 7 ~ 31 days between experiments for recovery and anesthetic clearance. MAC of isoflurane and cardiovascular parameters were determined after EA at nonacupoint and and at acupoints LI-4, SP-6, ST-36 and TH-8.... -

The efficacy of combination treatment of gabapentin and electro-acupuncture on paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain

Paclitaxel, a chemotherapeutic drug, induces severe peripheral neuropathy. Gabapentin (GBT) is a first line agent used to treat neuropathic pain, and its effect is mediated by spinal noradrenergic and muscarinic cholinergic receptors. Electro-acupuncture (EA) is used for treating various types of pain via its action through spinal opioidergic and noradrenergic receptors. Here, we investigated whether combined treatment of these two agents could exert a synergistic effect on paclitaxel-induced... -
Effects of tianeptine on symptoms of fibromyalgia via BDNF signaling in a fibromyalgia animal model
HwayoungLee, JiyunIm, HansolWon, WooyoungNam, YoungOckKim, SangWonLee, SanghyunLee, Ik-HyunCho, Hyung-KiKim, Jun-TackKwon, Hak-JaeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.4 1 361-370 (10 pages)
Previous reports have suggested that physical and psychological stresses may trigger fibromyalgia (FM). Stress is an important risk factor in the development of depression and memory impairments. Antidepressants have been used to prevent stress-induced abnormal pain sensation. Among various antidepressants, tianeptine has been reported to be able to prevent neurodegeneration due to chronic stress and reverse decreases in hippocampal volume. To assess the possible effect of tianeptine on FM... -
Involvement of spinal muscarinic and serotonergic receptors in the anti-allodynic effect of electroacupuncture in rats with oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain
JiHwanLee, DonghyunGo, WoojinKim, GiseogLee, HyojeongBae, FuShiQuan, SunKwangKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2016, Vol.20 No.4 10 407-414 (8 pages)
This study was performed to investigate whether the spinal cho-linergic and serotonergic analgesic systems mediate the relieving effect of elec-troacupuncture (EA) on oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic cold allodynia in rats. The cold allodynia induced by an oxaliplatin injection (6 mg/kg, i.p.) was evaluated by immersing the rat’s tail into cold water (4oC) and measuring the withdrawal latency. EA stimulation (2 Hz, 0.3-ms pulse duration, 0.2~0.3 mA) at the acupoint ST36, GV3, or LI11 all showed... -
Effects of Acupuncture Stimulation at Different Acupoints on Formalin-Induced Pain in Rats

Acupuncture is the process of stimulating skin regions called meridians or acupoints and has been used to treat pain-related symptoms. However, the pain-relieving effects of acupuncture may be different depending on acupoints. In the present study, the effects of acupuncture on behavioral responses and c-Fos expression were evaluated using a formalin test in male Sprague-Dawley rats in order to clarify the analgesic effects of three different acupoints. Each rat received manual acupuncture at... -
Push-in Head Restraining Apparatus for Intracranial Self Stimulation Tasks in Rats
MootaekRoh, Il-SungJang, Maan-GeeLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.2 3 103-108 (6 pages)
Head restraining is an experimental technique that firmly secures the animal’s head to a fixation apparatus for the precise control and sensing of behaviors. However, procedural and surgical difficulties and limitations have been obstructing the use of the technique in neurophysiological and behavioral experiments. Here, we propose a novel design of the head-restraining apparatus which is easy to develop and convenient for practical use. Head restraining procedure can be completed by sliding...
