Fluoxetine, widely used for the treatment of depression, is known to be a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), however, there are also reports that fluoxetine has direct effects on several receptors. Employing whole-cell patch clamp techniques in rat brain slice, we studied the effects of fluoxetine on corticostriatal synaptic transmission by measuring the change in spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSC). Acute treatment of rat brain slice with fluoxetine (10μM)... -
Calcium Ion Dynamics after Dexamethasone Treatment in Organotypic Cultured Hippocampal Slice

slice was treated with a glutamate receptor antagonist together with dexamethasone, the real time Ca2 dynamics were decreased. Furthermore, we confirmed by PI uptake study that glutamate receptor antagonist reduced the hippocampal tissue damage caused by dexamethasone treatment. Therefore, our new calcium ion dynamics system in organotypic cultured hippocampal slice after dexamethasone treatment could provide real time analysis method for investigation of brain injuries by stress. -
5-Hydroxytryptamine Inhibits Glutamatergic Synaptic Transmission in Rat Corticostriatal Brain Slice

Striatum is involved in the control of movement and habitual memory. It receives glutamatergic input from wide area of the cerebral cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from the raphe nuclei. In our study, the effects of 5-HT on synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro whole-cell recording technique. 5-HT inhibited the amplitude as well as frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSC)... -
Inhibition of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression by YS 49, a Synthetic Isoquinoline Alkaloid, in ROS 17/2.8 Cells Activated with TNF-α, IFN-γ and LPS

by Northern and Western blot analysis, respectively. The underlying mechanism by which YS 49 suppressed iNOS expression was not to affect iNOS mRNA stability but to inhibit activation and translocation of NF-κB by preventing the degradation of its inhibitory protein IκBα. As expected, YS 49 prevented NO-induced apoptotic cell death by sodium nitroprusside. Taken together, it is concluded that YS 49 inhibits iNOS expression by interfering with degradation of phosphorylated inhibitory κBα... -
Physiological, Pharmacological and Toxicological Implications of Heterodimeric Amino Acid Transporters

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.3 1 117-128 (12 pages)
The heterodimeric amino acid transporter family is a subfamily of SLC7 solute transporter family which includes 14-transmembrane cationic amino acid transporters and 12-transmembrane heterodimeric amino acid transporters. The members of heterodimeric amino acid transporter family are linked via a disulfide bond to single membrane spanning glycoproteins such as 4F2hc (4F2 heavy chain) and rBAT (related to b0, -amino acid transporter). Six members are associated with 4F2hc and one is linked... -
Economical Sweating Function in Africans: Quantitative Sudomotor Axon Reflex Test

People in tropics have the ability to tolerate heat by residential permanence in the tropics. Previously, we have shown that African and Thai subjects who lived for whole their lives in only their respective countries sweat less under hot conditions than South Koreans who also lived whole their lives in Korea. The difference in sweating responses was attributed to the dissimilar central and peripheral sweating mechanisms operating in people from both groups. In the present study, acetylcholine... -
Inhibitory Modulation of 5-Hydroxytryptamine on Corticostriatal Synaptic Transmission in Rat Brain Slice
SeJoonChoi, WonSoonChung, Ki-JungKim, Ki-WugSung, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

Striatum plays a crucial role in the movement control and habitual learning. It receives an information from wide area of cerebral cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from raphe nuclei. In the present study, the effects of 5-HT to modulate synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro extracellular recording technique. Synaptic responses were evoked by stimulation of cortical glutamatergic inputs on the corpus... -

with perchloric acid. The extract was injected into an Atlantis dC18 column (250⁓4.6 mm; particle size 5μm, Waters) and the column was eluted with methanol and 0.01 M dihydrogen phosphate at pH 3.0 (15:85 v:v) as a mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.7 mL/min. Linearity was confirmed for the range 0.25 to 200μL/mL and the limit of quantitation was 0.25μL/mL. The retention times were 10.2 min and 13.4 min for cefepime and cefadroxil, respectively. This method was successfully applied to a... -
Influence of Bradykinin on Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of bradykinin on secretion of catecholamines (CA) evoked by stimulation of cholinergic receptors and membrane depolarization from the isolated perfused model of the rat adrenal glands, and to elucidate its mechanism of action. Bradykinin (3⁓108 M) alone produced a weak secretory response of the CA. however, the perfusion with bradykinin (3⁓108 M) into an adrenal vein of the rat adrenal gland for 90 min enhanced... -

influence on CCK-induced fluid and amylase secretion. Acetylcholine-induced exocrine secretion of isolated perfused pancreas also was not affected by intra-arterial infusion of progesterone or estradiol-17β. It is concluded from the above results that progesterone could enhance the spontaneous pancreatic fluid and amylase secretion of isolated perfused rat pancreas through non-genomic short- term action, and that these effects could be masked by more potent stimulants such as secretin, CCK, and...
