The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.1 4 27-32 (6 pages)
We have characterized the aftereffects of impulse activities on the transmission of afferent sensory to the primary somatosensory (SI) cortex of the anesthetized rats (n=22). Following conditioning stimulation (CS, 10 sec, either 5 Hz or 200 Hz) to the receptive field (RF), quantitative determination of the changes of afferent sensory transmission was done by generating post-stimulus time histogram of unit response to the testing stimulation (TS, at 0.5 Hz) to the RF center (RFC) for 60 min. In... -
Comparison of the Determinants in the Differences in Force- Frequency Relationships between Rat and Rabbit Left Atria
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 11 417-425 (9 pages)
The underlying mechanism commonly applicable for both the positive and negative force-frequency relationships (FFR) was pursued in left atria (LA) of rat and rabbit. The species differences in the roles of Na/Ca2 exchanger and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), which are major intracellular Ca2 regulatory mechanisms in the heart, were examined in the amplitude accommodation to the frequency that changed from 3 Hz to the variable test frequencies for 5 minutes in the electrically... -
Postnatal Changes in Atrial Compliance and Stretch-Induced ANP Secretion in Rabbits
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 8 393-401 (9 pages)
To define the postnatal changes in ANP secretion in response to mechanical stretch and atrial compliance, experiments have been done in perfused nonbeating rabbit atria with different ages: 1-day, 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 8-wk-old. In 1-day-old-rabbits, an increase in intraatrial pressure resulted in an increase in atrial volume, which was higher than that in 1-wk-old rabbits. Increases in atrial volume stimulated the secretion of ANP with concomitant translocation of extracellular fluid (ECF) into... -
Amperozide Decreases Cocaine-Induced Increase in Behavior and Immediate Early Gene Expression in the Dorsal Striatum
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 4 361-367 (7 pages)
Cocaine functions as indirect dopamine and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) agonists and induces genomic and behavioral alterations in the striatum. Previously we demonstrated that ritanserin, a 5HT2/1C receptor antagonist, is not responsible for cocaine-induced behavioral alterations and zif268 mRNA gene expression in the striatum (see the previous paper in this issue). In this study, it was hypothesized that dopamine and 5HT2/1C receptors are required for cocaine-induced behavioral... -
Opening of ATP-sensitive K+ Channel by Pinacidil Requires Serine/ Threonine Phosphorylation in Rat Ventricular Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 7 293-303 (11 pages)
The influences of specific protein phosphatase and protein kinase inhibitors on the ATP-sensitive K (KATP) channel-opening effect of pinacidil were investigated in single rat ventricular myocytes using patch clamp technique. In cell-attached patches, pinacidil (100 μM) induced the opening of the KATP channel, which was blocked by the pretreatment with H-7 (100 μM) whereas enhanced by the pretreatment with genistein (30 μM) or tyrphostin A23 (10 μM). In inside-out patches, pinacidil... -
Gradual Reperfusion Lowers the Incidence of Reperfusion-Induced Ventricular Fibrillation in a Cat Model of Regional Ischemia
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 6 47-52 (6 pages)
Blood flow restoration to ischemic zone of the heart is essential to salvage of ischemic tissue. However, there is a large body of evidence documenting that the reperfusion can induce reperfusion injury like reperfusion-induced malignant arrhythmias. In the present study, employing a cat model of regional cardiac ischemia, we examined if reperfusion rendered in a gradual fashion could lower the incidence of reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation (VF), which usually precipitated within a... -
Effect of the Inhibition of PLA2 on Oxidative Lung Injury Induced by Interleukin-1
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 10 617-628 (12 pages)
In order to understand the pathogenetic mechanism of adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the role of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in association with oxidative stress was investigated in rats. Interleukin-1 (IL-1, 50 ㄍg/rat) was used to induce acute lung injury by neutrophilic respiratory burst. Five hours after IL-1 insufflation into trachea, microvascular integrity was disrupted, and protein leakage into the alveolar lumen was followed. An infiltration of neutrophils was... -
The Effects of Intracellular Monocarboxylates on the ATP-sensitive Potassium Channels in Rabbit Ventricular Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 6 581-589 (9 pages)
A regulating mechanism of the ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP channels) is yet to fully explained. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of intracellular application of monocarboxylates (acetate, formate, lactate, and pyruvate) on KATP channels in isolated rabbit ventricular myocytes. Single channel currents of KATP channels were recorded using the excised inside-out or permeabilized attached (open-cell) patch-clamp technique at room temperature. Intracellular application... -
Effect of Bromocriptine on 6-Hydroxydopamine-induced Lipid Peroxidation and Cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 4 565-572 (8 pages)
The present study was to evaluate the protective effects of bromocriptine, which is known as D2 dopamine receptor agonist and used for the treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), on 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced neurotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. Lipid peroxidation product (malondialdehyde; MDA) produced by the administration of 6-OHDA was profoundly reduced following the treatment of bromocriptine in a dose-dependent manner in rabbit brain homogenate. Quinone formation by... -
cAMP-Dependent Signalling is Involved in Adenosine-Stimulated Cl Secretion in Rabbit Colon Mucosa

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 14 521-527 (7 pages)
An important property of the intestine is the ability to secrete fluid. The intestinal secretion is regulated by a number of substances including vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), ATP and different inflammatory mediators. One of the most important secretagogues is adenosine during inflammation. However, the controversy concerning the underlying mechanism of adenosine-stimulated Cl secretion in intestinal epithelial cells still continues. To investigate the effect of adenosine on...
