Natriuresis Induced by Intracerebroventricular Diazepam in Rabbits

of renal function and systemic blood pressure. Diazepam, 100 ㄍg/kg icv, transiently decreased the renal nerve activity (RNA), which recovered after 3 min. The plasma level of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) increased 7-fold, the peak coinciding with the natriuresis and diuresis. Muscimol, a GABAergic agonist, 1.0 ㄍg/kg given icv, elicited marked antidiuresis and antinatriuresis, accompanied by decreases in systemic blood pressure and renal hemodynamics. When icv 0.3 ㄍg/kg... -
Interaction of 17β-Estradiol with EGF and IGF-I on Proliferation and Pi Uptake in Primary Cultured Rabbit Renal Proximal Tubular Cells

The most significant direct role of estrogen in vivo is its ability to elicit receptor-mediated cellular proliferation in mammalian target tissues. However, the mechanism by which exogenously added estrogen causes the neoplastic transformation of renal cortical cells is yet to be uncovered. The present study was designed to evaluate interaction of 17-estradiol (E2) with epidermal growth factor (EGF) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) on proliferation and Pi uptake in primary... -
Cytoprotective Effects of Dihydrolipoic Acid and Lipoic Acid on the Oxidative Stress in Cultured Rat Cortical Neurons

In brain hypoxic-ischemia, an excess release of glutamate and a marked production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) occur in neuronal and non-neuronal cells. The present study investigated the effect of the biological antioxidants dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) and lipoic acid (LA) on N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)- and ROS-induced neurotoxicity in cultured rat cortical neurons. DHLA enhanced NMDA-evoked rises in intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2]i). In contrast, LA did not alter the... -
Effects of Exogenous ATP on Calcium Mobilization and Cell Proliferation in C6 Glioma Cell

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 3 419-425 (7 pages)
To clarify the effect of extracellular ATP in cultured C6 glioma cells, ATP-induced cytosolic free calcium ([Ca2]i) mobilization and cell proliferation were investigated. ATP-induced [Ca2]i increased in a dose-dependent manner (107 M∼103 M). ATP-induced [Ca2]i increases were slightly slowed in extracellular calcium-free conditions especially in sustained phase. ATP-induced [Ca2]i increment was also inhibited by the pretreatment of U73122, a... -
Mediation of Intracellular Ca2+ in the Phospholipase A2-induced Cell Proliferation in Human Neuroblastoma Cells

concentrations. Arachidonic acid (AA), a product of the PLA2-catalyzed reaction, induced cell growth enhancement and intracellular Ca2 release. These effects of AA were significantly blocked by BAPTA/AM, an intracellular Ca2 chelator. Taken together, these results suggest that the modulation of PLA2 activity may be one of the regulatory mechanisms of cell growth in human neuroblastoma cells. Intracellular Ca2 may act as a key mediator in the PLA2-induced growth regulation. -
Effects of Prostaglandin E2 on the Spontaneous Contractions and Electrical Activities of the Antral Circular Muscle in Guinea-pig Stomach
JongYoonKim, SungJoonKim, TongMookKang, SangJinLee, JaeYeoulJun, InsukSo, KiWhanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.3 11 361-368 (8 pages)
The spontaneous contractions of gastric smooth muscles are regulated by slow waves, which are modulated by both nervous system and humoral agents. This study was designed to examine the effects of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) on the contractile and electrical activities of antral smooth muscles in guinea-pig stomach, using an intracellular recording technique. To elucidate the underlying mechanism for its effect on contractility, ionic currents were also measured using a whole-cell patch clamp... -
Inhibitory Effect of Caffeine on Carbachol-Induced Nonselective Cationic Current in Guinea-Pig Gastric Myocytes

In gastrointestinal smooth muscle, muscarinic stimulation by carbachol (CCh) activates nonselective cation channel current (ICCh) which is facilitated by intracellular [Ca2] increase. Caffeine is widely used in experiments to mobilize Ca2 from intracellular stores. This study shows a strong inhibitory effect of caffeine on ICCh in guinea-pig gastric myocyte. In this study, the underlying mechanism of the inhibitory effect of caffeine was investigated. ICCh was completely... -
Effects of Arachidonic Acid on the Calcium Channel Current (IBa) and on the Osmotic Stretch-induced Increase of IBa in Guinea-Pig Gastric Myocytes

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.4 10 435-443 (9 pages)
We employed the whole-cell patch clamp technique to investigate the effects of arachidonic acid (AA) on barium inward current through the L-type calcium channels (IBa) and on osmotic stretch-induced increase of IBa in guinea-pig antral gastric myocytes. Under isosmotic condition, AA inhibited IBa in a dose-dependent manner to 91.1⁑1.4, 72.0⁑3.2, 46.0⁑1.8, and 20.3⁑2.3% at 1, 5, 10, 30 mM, respectively. The inhibitory effect of AA was not affected by 10 ㄍM... -
Regulatory Mechanisms of Angiotensin II on the Na+/H+ Antiport System in Rabbit Renal Proximal Tubule Cells. II. Inhibitory Effects of ANG II on Na+ Uptake

Many reports represent that angiotensin II (ANG II) caused a dose dependent biphasic effects on fluid transport in the proximal tubule. However, respective roles of different signaling pathways in mediating these effects remain unsettled. The aim of the present study was to examine signaling pathways at high doses of ANG II on the Na+ uptake of primary cultured rabbit renal proximal tubule cells(PTCs) in hormonally defined serum-free medium. High concentrations of ANG II (>10-9 M) inhibited...
