Effect of Extracts from Safflower Seeds on Osteoblastic Differentiation and Intracellular Free Calcium Concentration in MC3T3-E1 Cells
Hye-OckJang, Hyun-SupEom, Sung-BaeRoh, IlYun 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 8 55-62 (8 pages)
Very little research has been carried out on safflower seed for the prevention and treatment of the bone deficiency diseases, including osteoporosis, which are supported by scientific evidences. In the present study, 3μl of 0.1% dried crude extract or 2μl of 0.1% dried aqueous fraction were shown to significantly accelerate the rate of differentiation of osteoblast. Also, the crude extract and aqueous fraction increased the [Ca2]i of the cultured osteoblast cells: 3μl of 0.1% dried... -
Identification of a Marker Protein for Cardiac Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury by Two-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis and Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the expression of cardiac marker protein in rabbit cardiac tissue that was exposed to ischemic preconditioning (IPC), or ischemiareperfusion injury (IR) using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). We compared 2DE gels of control (uninjured) cardiac tissue with those of IPC and IR cardiac tissue. Expression of one protein was detected in IR heart tissue, however the... -
Activation of Vestibular Neurons Projecting to Autonomic Brain Stem Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

of CTb-labeled neurons were double-labeled for cFos after injection of CTb into the solitary region and the VLM, respectively. In the IVN, 14% and 7% of CTb-labeled neurons were double-labeled for cFos after injection of CTb into the solitary region and the VLM, respectively. Therefore, the present study suggests that acute arterial hypotension may result in activation of vestibulosolitary pathways that mediate behavioral and visceral reflexes, and vestibuloventrolateral medullary pathways that... -
Nitric Oxide-cGMP-Protein Kinase G Pathway Contributes to Cardioprotective Effects of ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Rat Hearts
DangVanCuong*, NariKim*, HeeCheolCho, EuiyongKim, JinHan 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.2 5 95-100 (6 pages)
Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been accepted as a heart protection phenomenon against ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury. The activation of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels and the release of myocardial nitric oxide (NO) induced by IPC were demonstrated as the triggers or mediators of IPC. A common action mechanism of NO is a direct or indirect increase in tissue cGMP content. Furthermore, cGMP has also been shown to contribute cardiac protective effect to reduce heart I/R-induced... -

strand breakage were suppressed by the addition of glutathione or N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), which also partially restored mitochondrial function and cell viability. In addition, inhibition of PARP also reduced the 3-NP-induced DNA strand breakage and cytotoxicity. These results suggest that oxidative stress and activation of PARP are the major factors in 3-NP-induced cytotoxicity, and that the inhibition of these factors may be useful in protecting neuroblastoma cells from 3-NP-induced toxicity. -
Molecular Mechanism of Pancreatic Bicarbonate Secretion
MinGooLee, JeWooKim, KyungHwanKim, ShmuelMuallem 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.3 1 131-138 (8 pages)
Thanks to recent progress in availability of molecular and functional techniques it became possible to search for the basic molecular and cellular processes that mediate and control HCO3 and fluid secretion by the pancreatic duct. The coordinated action of various transporters on the luminal and basolateral membranes of polarized epithelial cells mediates the transepithelial HCO3 transport, which involves HCO3 absorption in the resting state and HCO3 secretion in the... -
Nimodipine as a Potential Pharmacological Tool for Characterizing R-Type Calcium Currents
SeogBaeOh 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.6 8 511-519 (9 pages)
Nimopidine, one of dihydropyridine derivatives, has been widely used to pharmacologically identify L-type Ca currents. In this study, it was tested if nimodipine is a selective blocker for L-type Ca currents in sensory neurons and heterologous system. In mouse dorsal root ganglion neurons (DRG), low concentrations of nimodipine (<10μM), mainly targeting L-type Ca currents, blocked high-voltage-activated calcium channel currents by ∼38%. Interestingly, high concentrations of nimodipine... -

It has been demonstrated that multipotent neuronal progenitor cells can be isolated from the developing or adult CNS and proliferated in vitro in response to epidermal growth factor. The present study was undertaken to investigate the differentiation of neuronal progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal rat forebrain striatum. Primary cultured progenitor cells were labeled with 3,3'-dioctadecycloxacarbonyl- amine perchlorate (DiO). DiO labeled progenitor cells were implanted into... -

in both endothelial and smooth muscle cells using the double patch clamp method demonstrates that these two cell types are indeed electrically coupled, indicating that they behave as a functional syncytium. The EDHF-induced hyperpolarization is produced by an activation of Ca2-sensitive K-channels that are inhibited by charybdotoxin and apamin. Agonists that release EDHF increase [Ca2]i in endothelial cells but not in smooth muscle cells. Inhibition of gap junctions with... -
GLUT Phosphorylation May be Required to GLUT Translocation Mechanism
Jong-SikHah 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 8 487-496 (10 pages)
In this work, GLUTs phosphorylations by a downstream effector of PI3-kinase, PKC-ζ, were studied, and GLUT4 phosphorylation was compared with GLUT2 phosphorylation in relation to the translocation mechanism. Prior to phosphorylation experiment, PKC-ζ kinase activity was determined as 20.76⁑4.09 pmoles Pi/min/25 ng enzymes. GLUT4 was phosphorylated by PKC-ζ and the phosphorylation was increased on the vesicles immunoadsorpted from LDM and on GLUT4 immunoprecipitated from GLUT4-...
