Effects of Kanagawa Hemolysin on Blood Pressure and Arterial Tone in Rats
YoungMoonKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 8 225-233 (9 pages)
Kanagawa hemolysin (KH), an exotoxin produced from Kanagawa phenomenon-positive Vibrio parahemolyticus, has been shown to possess various biological activities including hemolysis, enterotoxicity, cytotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of KH on the cardiovascular system and its mechanism, employing in vivo and in vitro experiments of the rat. Intracerebroventricular (icv) administration of 100 mHU KH produced a marked and continuous pressor effect... -
Upregulation of Renal Renin-Angiotensin System in Rats with Adriamycin-Induced Nephrosis
SooWanKim, JongUnLee, Sang-WoongHan, JunHoRyu, YoonWhaOh, NamHoKim, KiChulChoi, Ho-JungKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 10 127-130 (4 pages)
The present study was aimed to investigate whether the adriamycin-induced nephrosis is associated with an altered regulation of local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the kidney. Rats were subjected to a single injection of adriamycin (2 mg/kg body weight, IV) and kept for 6 weeks to allow the development of nephrosis. They were then divided into two groups, and supplied with and without cilazapril, an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, in drinking water (100 mg/l) for additional 6... -
G Protein-Coupled Receptor Signaling in Gastrointestinal Smooth Muscle
UyDongSohn, DongSeokKim, KarnamSMurthy 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.4 1 287-297 (11 pages)
Contraction of smooth muscle is initiated by an increase in cytosolic Ca2 leading to activation of Ca2/ calmodulin-dependnet myosin light chain (MLC) kinase and phosphorylation of MLC. The types of contraction and signaling mechanisms mediating contraction differ depending on the region. The involvement of these different mechanisms varies depending on the source of Ca2 and the kinetic of Ca2 mobilization. Ca2 mobilizing agonists stimulate different... -
Effect of Propofol on Ion Channels in Acutely Dissociated Dorsal Raphe Neuron of Sprague-Dawley Rats

GABAA-, glycine- and NMDA receptor-mediated currents. The potentiating action of propofol on GABAA-, glycine- and NMDA receptor-mediated responses involved neither opioid receptors nor G-proteins. Apparently, propofol modulates inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitter-activated ion channels either by acting directly on the receptors or by potentiating the effects of the neurotransmitters, and this modulation appears to be responsible for the majority of the anaesthetic and/or adverse effects. -
Block of ATP-Sensitive K Channels Expressed in Xenopus Oocytes by Dimethyl Sulfoxide
JinBongParkSooWanChae 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.2 6 157-163 (7 pages)
The effects of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were studied in two groups of Xenopus oocytes, one expressing ATP sensitive K (KATP) channel comprised of sulfonylurea receptor SUR1 and inwardly rectifying K channel subunit Kir6.2, and the other expressing renal KATP channel ROMK2. At concentrations of 0.3∼10% (vol/vol) DMSO inhibited whole cell Kir6.2/SUR1 currents elicited by bath application of sodium azide (3 mM) in a concentration-dependent manner. The inhibition constant and Hill coefficient... -
N-Type Calcium Channels
KeithS.Elmslie 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 12 525-530 (6 pages)
The early studies of cardiac and smooth muscle cells provided evidence for two different calcium channels, the L-type (also called high-voltage activated [HVA]) and the T-type (low-voltage activated [LVA]). These calcium channels provided calcium for muscle contractions and pace-making activities. As might be expected, the number of different calcium channels increased when researchers studied neurons and the identification of the neuronal calcium channel has proven to be much more difficult... -
Zn2+ Modulates the Responses of Rat Dorsal Horn Neuron to C-Fiber Stimulation and Excitatory Amino Acids

Zinc augmented the responses of WDR cells to iontophoretical application of kainate. The dominant effect of Zn2 on the responses of WDR cells to C-fiber stimulation was excitatory, but inhibition, excitation-inhibition and no change of the responses to C-fiber stimulation were induced. Ca2-EDTA antagonized the excitatory or inhibitory effects of Zn2 on the WDR cell responses. These experimental findings suggest that Zn2 modulates the transmission of sensory -

with a notably increased spontaneous excitatory synaptic activity. However, CCK-8S did not significantly change the amplitude of pharmacologically isolated and evoked EPSP(C)s. Using selective CCKA and CCKB receptor antagonists, we observed two different effects of CCK-8S, which suggest CCKA receptor-mediated inhibitory and CCKB receptor-mediated excitatory effects in the NTS. These results may help to explain the ability of CCK to modulate gastrointestinal and other reflex systems in the NTS. -
Tyrosine Phosphorylation of Paxillin May be Involved in Vascular Smooth Muscle Contraction

smooth muscle. The tyrosine phosphorylation of paxillin, which was increased by norepinephrine, reached a peak level after 1 min stimulation and then decreased with time. However, norepinephrine induced a sustained contraction that reached a steady state 30 min after application. Pretreatment with tyrphostin, an inhibitor of tyrosine kinase, inhibited the tyrosine phosphorylation of paxillin and also the contraction stimulated by norepinephrine. Both inhibitions were concentration-dependent, and... -

staurosporine) and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (genistein and methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamic acid) significantly inhibited the contraction, but calmodulin antagonists (W-7 and trifluoperazine) had no inhibitory effect on the contraction. The combined inhibitory effects of protein kinase inhibitors, H-7 and genistein, together with verapamil were greater than that of each one alone. In Ca2 store-emptied condition, 45Ca2 influx was significantly inhibited by verapamil, H-7 or genistein...
