The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.1 8 39-45 (7 pages)
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been suggested to be contributory factors in complications of diabetes mellitus. In the present study, we investigated the generation of superoxide, the lipid peroxide level measured as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, the vasorelaxation of isolated thoracic aorta and the iNOS expression in kidney of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control, ascorbate (400 mg/kg rat weight daily in drinking water),... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.6 7 319-325 (7 pages)
The induction of interleukin-6 (IL-6) using combined proinflammatory agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/ IFN-γ) was studied in relation to p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and NF-κB transcriptional factor in primary neonatal cardiomyocytes. When added to cultures of cardiomyocytes, the combined agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/IFN-γ) had stimulatory effect on the production of IL-6 and the elevation was significantly reduced by SB203580, a specific p38 MAPK inhibitor. SB203580 inhibited... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.6 5 305-309 (5 pages)
There are some evidences that K efflux evoked by muscarinic stimulation is not mainly mediated by large conductance K (BK) channels in salivary gland. In this experiment, we therefore characterised non BK channels in rat submandibular gland acinar cells and examined the possibility of agonist effect on this channel using a patch clamp technique. Two types of K channels were observed in these cells. BK channels were observed in 3 cells from total 6 cells and its average... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 10 253-261 (9 pages)
Head-out water immersion induces marked increase in the cardiac stroke volume. The present study was undertaken to characterize the stroke volume change by analyzing the aortic blood flow and left ventricular systolic time intervals. Ten men rested on a siting position in the air and in the water at 34.5oC for 30 min each. Their stroke volume, heart rate, ventricular systolic time intervals, and aortic blood flow indices were assessed by impedance cardiography. During immersion, the stroke... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 5 33-40 (8 pages)
This study was designed to clarify the mechanism of the inhibitory action of a nitric oxide (NO) donor, 3-morpholino-sydnonimine (SIN-1), on contraction, cytosolic Ca2 level ([Ca2]i), and ionic currents in guinea-pig ileum. SIN-1 (0.01∼100μM) inhibited 25 mM KCl- or histamine (10μM)-induced contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. SIN-1 reduced both the 25 mM KCl- and the histamine-stimulated increases in muscle tension in parallel with decreased [Ca2]i. Using... -

Direct exposure of renal tubular brush-border membranes (BBM) to free cadmium (Cd) causes a reduction in phosphate (Pi) transport capacity. Biochemical mechanism of this reduction was investigated in the present study. Renal proximal tubular brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMV) were isolated from rabbit kidney outer cortex by Mg precipitation method. Vesicles were exposed to 50∼200 μM CdCl2 for 30 min, then the phosphate transporter activity was determined. The range of Cd concentration...
