Arecoline is a major alkaloid of areca nuts which are widely chewed by southeast Asian and it manifests various toxic effects in different organs of human and animals. In this work, mature mice were treated by vitamins C plus E, arecoline, or both daily for four weeks. The results showed that arecoline significantly increased the levels of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), glutamate oxalo-acetate transaminase (GOT), glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) and significantly decreased the levels of... -

The possible roles of spinal histamine receptors in the regulation of the blood glucose level were studied in ICR mice. Mice were intrathecally (i.t.) treated with histamine 1 (H1) receptor agonist (2-pyridylethylamine) or antagonist (cetirizine), histamine 2 (H2) receptor agonist (dimaprit) or antagonist (ranitidine), histamine 3 (H3) receptor agonist (α-methylhistamine) or antagonist (car-cinine) and histamine 4 (H4) receptor agonist (VUF 8430) or antagonist (JNJ 7777120), and the blood... -
Nitric Oxide-Induced Apoptosis of Human Dental Pulp Cells Is Mediated by the Mitochondria-Dependent Pathway
MinYoungPark, YeonJinJeong, GiChangKang, Mi-HwaKim, SunHunKim, Hyun-JuChung, JiYeonJung, WonJaeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.1 3 25-32 (8 pages)
Nitric oxide (NO) is recognized as a mediator and regulator of inflammatory responses. NO is produced by nitric oxide synthase (NOS), and NOS is abundantly expressed in the human dental pulp cells (HDPCs). NO produced by NOS can be cytotoxic at higher concentrations to HDPCs. However, the mechanism by which this cytotoxic pathway is activated in cells exposed to NO is not known. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the NO-induced cytotoxic mechanism in HDPCs. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a... -
Advanced Glycation End Products and Diabetic Complications
VarunParkashSingh, AnjanaBali, NirmalSingh, AmteshwarSinghJaggi 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 14 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.1 1 1-14 (14 pages)
During long standing hyperglycaemic state in diabetes mellitus, glucose forms covalent adducts with the plasma proteins through a non-enzymatic process known as glycation. Protein glycation and formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications like retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, cardiomyopathy along with some other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and aging. Glycation of proteins interferes with... -
Spontaneous Electrical Activity of Cultured Interstitial Cells of Cajal from Mouse Urinary Bladder
Sun-OuckKim, Han-SeongJeong, SujeongJang, Mei-JinWu, JongKyuPark, Han-YiJiao, JaeYeoulJun, Jong-SeongPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) from the urinary bladder regulate detrusor smooth muscle activities. We cultured ICCs from the urinary bladder of mice and performed patch clamp and intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) imaging to investigate whether cultured ICCs can be a valuable tool for cellular functional studies. The cultured ICCs displayed two types of spontaneous electrical activities which are similar to those recorded in intact bladder tissues. Spontaneous electrical activities of cultured... -
The TREK2 Channel Is Involved in the Proliferation of 253J Cell, a Human Bladder Carcinoma Cell

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.6 6 511-516 (6 pages)
Bladder cancer is the seventh most common cancer in men that smoke, and the incidence of disease increases with age. The mechanism of occurrence has not yet been established. Potassium channels have been linked with cell proliferation. Some two-pore domain K+ channels (K2P), such as TASK3 and TREK1, have recently been shown to be overexpressed in cancer cells. Here we focused on the relationship between cell growth and the mechanosensitive K2P channel, TREK2, in the human bladder cancer cell... -
Repaglinide, but Not Nateglinide Administered Supraspinally and Spinally Exerts an Anti-Diabetic Action in D-Glucose Fed and Streptozotocin-Treated Mouse Models

We have recently demonstrated that some anti-diabetic drugs such as biguanide and thizolidi-nediones administered centrally modulate the blood glucose level, suggesting that orally administered anti-diabetic drugs may modulate the blood glucose level by acting on central nervous system. The present study was designed to explore the possible action of another class of anti-diabetic drugs, glinidies, administered centrally on the blood glucose level in ICR mice. Mice were administered... -
Disappearance of Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction and O2-Sen-sitive Nonselective Cationic Current in Arterial Myocytes of Rats Under Ambient Hypoxia

Acute hypoxia induces contraction of pulmonary artery (PA) to protect ventilation/perfusion mismatch in lungs. As for the cellular mechanism of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV), hypoxic inhibition of voltage-gated K+ channel (Kv) in PA smooth muscle cell (PASMC) has been suggested. In addition, our recent study showed that thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and hypoxia-activated nonselective cation channel (INSC) is also essential for HPV. However, it is not well understood whether HPV is maintained... -

form of oscillations, which plays essential roles by activating sequen-tially Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase, calcineurin and NFATc1, necessary in the osteoclast differentiation. However, it is not known whether Ca2+ mobilization which is evoked in RANKL-in-dependent way induces to differentiate into osteoclasts. In present study, we investigated Ca2+ mobilization induced by aluminum fluoride (AlF4−), a G-protein activator, with or without RANKL and the effects of AlF4−... -

cancer therapy. Because of antiviral activity, the CypA inhibitors have been tested for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. Nonimmunosuppressive Cyp inhibitors such as NIM811, SCY-635, and Alisporivir have attracted more interests for appropriating CypA for antiviral chemotherapeutic target on HCV infection. This review describes CypA inhibitors as a potential HCC treatment tool that is contrived by their obstructing chronic HCV infection and summarizes roles of CypA in cancer development.
