Role of K+ Channels to Resting Membrane Potential of Rabbit Middle Cerebral Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells
NariKim, JinHan, EuiyongKim, Yun-HeeKim, Jae-HongSim, Soo-CheonKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.6 2 547-554 (8 pages)
The aim of the present study is to investigate the contribution of Ca2-activated K (KCa) channels and delayed rectifier K (KV) channels to the resting membrane potential (RMP) in rabbit middle cerebral arterial smooth muscle cells. The RMP and membrane currents were recorded using the whole-cell patch configuration and single KCa channel was recorded using the outside-out patch configuration. Using the pipette solution containing 0.05 mM EGTA, the RMP was... -
Temporal Changes in Neuronal Activity of the Bilateral Medial Vestibular Nuclei Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats

To investigate the changes in the responses of vestibular neurons with time during vestibular compensation, the resting activity and dynamic responses of type I and II neurons in the medial vestibular nuclei to sinusoidal angular acceleration were recorded following unilateral labyrinthectomy (ULX) in Sprague-Dawley rats. The unitary extracellular neuronal activity was recorded from the bilateral medial vestibular nuclei with stainless steel microelectrodes of 3∼5 MΩ before ULX, and 6, 24,... -
Decreased Voltage Dependent K+ Currents in Cerebral Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells of One-Kidney, One-Clip Goldblatt Hypertensive Rat

The Kv channel activity in vascular smooth muscle cell plays an important role in the regulation of membrane potential and blood vessel tone. It was postulated that increased blood vessel tone in hypertension was associated with alteration of Kv channel and membrane potential. Therefore, using whole cell mode of patch-clamp technique, the membrane potential and the 4-AP-sensitive Kv current in cerebral arterial smooth muscle cells were compared between normotensive rat and one-kidney, one-clip... -
The Enhancement of Endotoxin-Induced Nitric Oxide Production by Elevation of Glucose Concentration in Macrophage

on endotoxin-induced NO production. On the other hand, negative modulation of GFAT inhibitors was not reversed by the treatment of glucosamine, suggesting the minimal involvement, if any, of glucosamine pathway in glucose-enhancing effect. In summary, these results strongly suggest that the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway and the activation of PKC via sorbitol pathway do not contribute to the augmenting effect of high glucose on endotoxin induced NO production in macrophage-like Raw264.7 cells. -
Tissue-Specific Regulation of Angiotensinogen and Angiotensin II Receptor Gene Expression in Deoxycorticosterone Acetate-Salt Hypertensive Rats
JongUnLeeMiRaAn 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 9 315-320 (6 pages)
Molecular regulation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) was investigated in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertension. The expression of renin, angiotensinogen and angiotensin II receptor genes in the kidney and liver was determined by Northern blot analysis in rats which were made DOCA-salt hypertensive over the period of 2 or 4 weeks. Along with the hypertension, renin mRNA was decreased in the remnant kidney. The expression of angiotensinogen gene was not significantly altered... -
Effects of Cl Channel Blockers on the Cardiac ATP-sensitive K+ Channel
Yong-GeunKwak 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 8 305-313 (9 pages)
To explore whether Cl channel blockers interact with the ATP-sensitive K (KATP) channel, I have examined the effect of two common Cl channel blockers on the KATP channel activity in isolated rat ventricular myocytes using patch clamp techniques. In inside-out patches, 4,4'-diisothio-cyanatostilbene- 2,2'-disulfonic acid (DIDS) and niflumic acid applied to bath solution inhibited the KATP channel activity in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 of 0.24 and 927μM,... -

more negative potentials with its half-inactivation potential changed by 6.98 mV. There were, however, significant changes neither in the reversal potential of ICa nor in the I-V curve. From these results it was concluded that: 1) The serum factors of sporadic ALS patients increase neuromuscular transmission and can alter motor nerve terminal presynaptic function. This suggests that ALS serum factors may play an important role in the early stage of ALS, and 2) Calcium currents in DRG cells were... -
Role of Protein Kinases on NF-κB Activation and Cell Death in Bovine Cerebral Endothelial Cells
YoungSooAhn, ChulHoonKim, JooHeeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 2 11-18 (8 pages)
Nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) activation is modulated by various protein kinases. Activation of NF-κB is known to be important in the regulation of cell viability. The present study investigated the effect of inhibitors of protein tyrosine kinase (PTK), protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase A (PKA) on NF-κB activity and the viability of bovine cerebral endothelial cells (BCECs). In serum-deprivation-induced BCEC death, low doses of TNFα showed a protective effect. TNFα induced NF-κB... -

cells of cerebral resistant arteriole, ion currents that are blocked by barium, 4-aminopyridine (4-AP), and tetraethylammonium (TEA) exist. Currents that were blocked by barium showed inward rectification. When the [K]o were 6, 20, 60, and 140 mM, the reversal potentials were 82.7⁑1.0, 49.5⁑1.86, 26⁑1.14, 5.18⁑1.17 mV, respectively, and these values were almost identical to the calculated K equilibrium potential. The inhibition of... -
The Effects of Intracellular Monocarboxylates on the ATP-sensitive Potassium Channels in Rabbit Ventricular Myocytes

A regulating mechanism of the ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP channels) is yet to fully explained. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of intracellular application of monocarboxylates (acetate, formate, lactate, and pyruvate) on KATP channels in isolated rabbit ventricular myocytes. Single channel currents of KATP channels were recorded using the excised inside-out or permeabilized attached (open-cell) patch-clamp technique at room temperature. Intracellular application...
