Identification of a Marker Protein for Cardiac Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury by Two-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis and Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry

control (uninjured) cardiac tissue with those of IPC and IR cardiac tissue. Expression of one protein was detected in IR heart tissue, however the protein was not detected in the samples of control and IPC tissue. To further characterize the detected protein molecule, the protein in the 2D gel was isolated and subjected to trypsin digestion, followed by MALDI-MS. The protein was identified as myoglobin, which was confirmed also by Western blot analysis. These results are consistent with previous... -
Involvement of NMDA Receptor and L-type Calcium Channel in the Excitatory Action of Morphine
BonSeopKoo, HongKeeShin, SukHanKang, JongHunJun 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.5 2 241-246 (6 pages)
We studied the excitatory action of morphine on the responses of dorsal horn neuron to iontophoretic application of excitatory amino acid and C-fiber stimulation by using the in vivo electrophysiological technique in the rat. In 137 of the 232 wide dynamic range (WDR) neurons tested, iontophoretic application of morphine enhanced the WDR neuron responses to N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), kainate, and graded electrical stimulation of C-fibers. Morphine did not have any excitatory effects on the... -
Differential Changes of ATP-sensitive Potassium Channel Current after Hypoxia-reperfusion Treatment in Mouse Neuroblastoma 2a (N2a) Cell

opened using diazoxide, the hypoxia for 6 hours significantly increased the current density in comparison to control condition (p<0.001). Interestingly, the augmentation in the KATP current density reduced after exposure to the 12 hours hypoxic condition (p<0.001). Taken together, these results suggest that KATP channels appear to be recruited more in cells exposed to the 6 hours hypoxic condition and they may play a protective role against hypoxia-reperfusion damage within the time range. -
Molecular Mechanism of Pancreatic Bicarbonate Secretion

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.3 1 131-138 (8 pages)
recent progress in availability of molecular and functional techniques it became possible to search for the basic molecular and cellular processes that mediate and control HCO3 and fluid secretion by the pancreatic duct. The coordinated action of various transporters on the luminal and basolateral membranes of polarized epithelial cells mediates the transepithelial HCO3 transport, which involves HCO3 absorption in the resting state and HCO3 secretion in the stimulated... -
G Protein-Coupled Receptor Signaling in Gastrointestinal Smooth Muscle
UyDongSohn, DongSeokKim, KarnamSMurthy 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.4 1 287-297 (11 pages)
Contraction of smooth muscle is initiated by an increase in cytosolic Ca2 leading to activation of Ca2/ calmodulin-dependnet myosin light chain (MLC) kinase and phosphorylation of MLC. The types of contraction and signaling mechanisms mediating contraction differ depending on the region. The involvement of these different mechanisms varies depending on the source of Ca2 and the kinetic of Ca2 mobilization. Ca2 mobilizing agonists stimulate different... -
N-Type Calcium Channels

of the different calcium channels have similar kinetic properties. This review uses the N-type calcium channel to illustrate the difficulties in identifying and characterizing calcium channels in neurons. It shows that the discovery of toxins that can specifically block single calcium channel types has made it possible to easily and rapidly discern the physiological roles of the different calcium channels in the neuron. Without these toxins it is unlikely that progress would have been as rapid. -
Muscarinic Receptor Subtype Controlling the Carbachol-Induced Muscle Contraction in Guinea Pig Gastric Antrum
JongChulRhee, Dae-YongUhm, TongMookKang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.2 4 105-111 (7 pages)
Stimulation of muscarinic receptors by carbachol (CCh) in the circular smooth muscle of the guinea pig gastric antrum causes muscle contraction. In the present study, muscarinic receptor subtype controlling the muscle contraction in response to CCh was studied using putative muscarinic receptor antagonists. Isometric force of the isolated circular muscle strips was measured in an organ bath. CCh contracted the muscle in a dose-dependent way, and each of the three muscarinic receptor... -
Physiological and Pharmacological Characterization of Glutamate and GABA Receptors in the Retina

Glutamate and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are major excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the vertebrate retina, respectively. Using the whole-cell patch clamp technique and a rapid solution changer, glutamate and GABA receptors have been extensively investigated in carp retina. Glutamate receptors on both horizontal and amacrine cells may be an AMPA preferring subtype, which predominantly consists of flop splice variants. GABAA and GABAC receptors coexist in bipolar cells and they... -
Mechanism of Membrane Hyperpolarization by Extracellular K+ in Resistance-sized Cerebral Arterial Muscle Cell of Rabbit

We sought to find out the mechanism of vascular relaxation by extracellular K concentration ([K]o) in the cerebral resistant arteriole from rabbit. Single cells were isolated from the cerebral resistant arteriole, and using voltage-clamp technique barium-sensitive K currents were recorded, and their characteristics were observed. Afterwards, the changes in membrane potential and currents through the membrane caused by the change in [K]o was observed. In the smooth... -
Moderate Elevation of Extracellular K+ Concentration Induces Vasorelaxation in Isolated Rat, Rabbit and Human Cerebral Arteries Role of Na Pump and Ba-Sensitive Process

species, while histamine (10∼50 ㄍM) evoked contraction only in the rabbits and induced relaxation in the rats and humans. Addition of K (2∼10 mM) to the control solution induced vasorelaxations. These effects were inhibited by the pretreatment with both ouabain (10 ㄍM) and Ba2 (0.1∼0.3 mM) in the rat, but only with ouabain (10 ㄍM) in the rabbit and human. These results suggest that K-induced vasorelaxation occurs via the stimulation of electrogenic Na...
