as small-eyed and having exaggerated facial expressions. Moreover, portrayals of Chinese people in social settings reflect gender-based stereotypes, unsanitary and having uncivilized social environments. Regarding symbolic culture, gift giving is misinterpreted and Chinese people's Confucian values are stereotyped. The study’s findings of substantial misrepresentations and stereotyping underscore the need to make active efforts to maintain cultural authenticity in multicultural picture books. -

To improve the levels of competencies in the future, we recommend interventions such as the development of policies and frameworks on integration of indigenous cultures in early childhood education, training and revisiting of qualification standards in hiring, and the integration of professional learning communities with the Philippine commissions handling arts, language, and indigenous cultures. -

in Singapore. While subscribing to some state bilingual education policy assumptions, mothers actively formed different family language policies to resist the state bilingual policy, shield their children from academic pressure, and carve out a unique Malay identity. Major forces such as Malay as a minority, language and social mobility, and English ownership, in addition to state bilingual policy and education system, were discussed in connection to mothers’ family language policy. -

Larissa Hayes, Cathrine Neilsen-Hewett, Elisabeth Duursma 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 5 99-123 (25 pages)
One quarter of the Australian population is born overseas and one in five Australians speak a language other than English (ABS, 2016). This has led to an increase in the number of bilingual children enrolled in early childhood settings. Despite this changing landscape there is a lack of support for bilingual children enrolled in early childhood settings as many children do not receive any assistance to maintain their home language. This study examined the understanding and perceptions of two... -

In spite of the emphases on multicultural education and role-playing activities in early childhood classrooms in South Korea, there has been a startling paucity of studies examining the effectiveness of role-play in teaching kindergarteners multiracial and ethnic awareness. This qualitative case study examines how South Korean kindergarteners develop their perception and understanding of racial and cultural diversity through role-plays. 25 five year-old children and their parents and teacher... -
