Preschool Teachers’ Resilience and Their Readiness to Develop Resilience to Young Children in a Chinese Context
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 3 49-69 (21 pages)
Resilience is defined as a “positive adaption in the face of risk or adversity” (Wright, Masten, & Narayan, 2013). Both the teachers’ resilience and their readiness to develop preschool children’s resilience were examined in the Hong Kong context (n=196). Results from the K-means cluster analysis indicated that Hong Kong preschool teachers had a relatively high level of resilience, with family being a significant contributing factor. These teachers were generally ready to foster children’s... -
A Review of EI/ECSE Systems Across Four Settings: Procedures and Lessons Learned
Serra Acar, Songtian Zeng, Ching-I Chen, Huichao Xie Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 27 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.3 4 45-71 (27 pages)
There is currently no reliable information on the number of children with disabilities across the globe due to differences in terminology, child find systems, and available of psychometrically sound assessment tools to identify children timely. This literature review examines the extant literature related to assessment methods used for identification of children for early intervention/early childhood special education (EI/ECSE) services in four settings: China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Turkey.... -
The Effects of Digital Game-Based Learning on Early English Literacy Task for Non-Native Speakers
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 18 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 7 123-140 (18 pages)
the independent t-test conducted on the post-test scores showed that the digital game-based group performed significantly better than the traditional flash card group, indicating that learning through digital game-based activities was more effective than traditional flash card methods in enhancing the students’ learning on the early literacy task. The present findings provide empirical evidence for the effectiveness of DGBL in facilitating an English literacy task among the non-native speakers. -

Alfredo Bautista, Malikka Habib, Raymond Ong, Anthony Eng, Rebecca Bull 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 28 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 6 95-122 (28 pages)
of representations in fostering students’ mathematical learning. However, most classroom-based studies on representations have focused on primary and secondary levels, and there is limited literature on how preschool teachers integrate representations in regular classroom activities. This qualitative study illustrates specific ways in which preschool educators may utilize multiple representations to teach numeracy, thereby showing how theoretical ideas can be applied into practice. We analyze a... -
Supporting Preschool Children’s Early Writing with Self-Regulated Learning Strategies
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 5 69-93 (25 pages)
Research suggests that early writing is crucial in the development of young children’s literacy skills and links to their conventional literacy outcomes in elementary school and beyond. In order to enhance the will and the skills to express thoughts explicitly and effectively in early writing among preschool children, self-regulated learning (SRL) was suggested. This experimental study involved seventy-five preschool children, aged from five to six years old in Malaysia, aimed to investigate... -
The Role of Professional Development in Improving Quality and Supporting Child Outcomes in Early Education and Care
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 4 49-68 (20 pages)
A skilled workforce that understands the needs of children and can deliver high quality curricula to children with diverse needs, is required in order to realise the wide-ranging benefits that could follow from public investment in ECEC provision (such as in-service Professional Development (PD)). It is well established in the literature that high quality ECEC is important for children’s outcomes, and that variations in quality can be explained, to a large extent, by variations in educator... -

based on sexuality begin early in life. Young children learn that there are dominant societal expectations of the expression of gender and sexuality. Without teachers’ conscious efforts in the classroom, homophobic and heterosexist discursive practices become prevalent in their lives. This study analyzes the experiences of homosexual prospective teachers, examining how homosexual prospective teachers form their identity as members of a sexual minority and as teachers. For this research goal, I... -

Therefore, this study examined the assessment procedure adopted for the pre-primary school children in Nigeria and to determine their developmental appropriateness to children. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. One hundred and sixty-two public schools... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.1 3 47-67 (21 pages)
Over the decades, western academic literature has embraced the power of visual arts as the first language with which children connect with the people and environment of their world. However, children in Hong Kong, a multi-cultural region in a Chinese context, have limited experiences in using visual language in the kindergartens due to pre-schools’ academic-oriented atmosphere and focus on primary school readiness. Rather than engaging in visual arts, students are forced to start writing...
