Anti-melanogenic effects of black, green, and white tea extracts on immortalized melanocytes
Young Chul Kim, So Young Choi, Eun Ye Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 2호 1 135-143 (9 pages)
Tea contains polyphenols and is one of the most popular beverages consumed worldwide. Because most tyrosinase inhibitors that regulate melanogenesis are phenol/catechol derivatives, this study investigated the inhibitory effects of Camellia sinensis water extracts (CSWEs), including black tea, green tea, and white tea extracts, on melanogenesis using immortalized melanocytes. CSWEs inhibited melanin accumulation and melanin synthesis along with tyrosinase activity in a concentration-dependent... -

Yuqiang Cheng, Yingjie Sun, Hengan Wang, Shuduan Shi, Yaxian Yan, Jing Li, Chan Ding, Jianhe Sun 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 1호 6 37-46 (10 pages)
Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) is responsible for the recognition of bacterial flagellin in vertebrates. In the present study, the first TLR5 gene in duck was cloned. The open reading frame (ORF) of duck TLR5 (dTLR5) cDNA is 2580 bp and encodes a polypeptide of 859 amino acids. We also cloned partial sequences of myeloid differentiation factor 88, 2’-5’-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS), and myxovirus resistance (Mx) genes from duck. dTLR5 mRNA was highly expressed in the... -

to have potential use for treating many illnesses. Most cells, including ASCs, are generally cultured in medium containing fetal bovine serum (FBS). However, FBS, which could induce an immune response or infection, is not recommended for clinical applications. In the present study, we evaluated the morphology, proliferation rate, and characterization of rabbit ASCs grown in medium containing autologous serum (AS) and compared these cells to ones cultured with FBS. Morphological changes were... -
Maturation of bone marrow-derived dendritic cells by a novel β-glucan purified from Paenibacilluspolymyxa JB115

a type of potent antigen-presenting cells. β-glucan isolated from P. polymyxa JB115 enhanced the viability and induced the maturation of DCs. β-glucan markedly increased the cytokine production of DCs and surface expression of DC markers. In addition, DCs treated with β-glucan showed a higher capacity to stimulate allogeneic spleen cell proliferation compared to those treated with medium alone. These results demonstrate the effect of β-glucan on DC maturation and may increase the use of... -
Molecular characterization of Korean rabies virus isolates
Dong-Kun Yang*, Young-Nam Park, Gyeong-Soo Hong, Hee-Kyung Kang, Yoon-I Oh, Soo-Dong Cho, Jae-Young Song 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages

analysis showed that the Korean isolates were most closely related to the non-Korean NeiMeng1025B and 857r strains, which were isolated from rabid raccoon dogs in Eastern China and Russia, respectively. These findings suggest that the Korean RABV isolates originated from a rabid raccoon dog in Northeastern Asia. Genetic analysis of the Korean RABV isolates revealed no substitutions at several antigenic sites, indicating that the isolates circulating in Korea may be pathogenic in several hosts. -
Immunomodulatory effects of betulinic acid from the bark of white birch on mice
Jin-e Yi, Bozena Obminska-Mrukowicz, Li-yun Yuan, Hui Yuan* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 5 305-313 (9 pages)
The objective of this study was to explore the immunomodulatory effects of betulinic acid (BA) extracted from the bark of white birch on mice. Female mice were orally administered BA for 14 days in doses of 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 1 mg/kg body weight. We found that BA significantly enhanced the thymus and spleen indices, and stimulated lymphocyte proliferation induced by Concanavalin A and lipopolysaccharide as shown by MTT assay. Flow cytometry revealed that BA increased the percentage of CD4 cells... -

symmetric stretching ns(PO3) band intensity at ∼970 cm and the phosphodiester symmetric stretching ns(PO2) band intensity at ∼1,085 cm in nucleic acids and phospholipids appeared to be significantly strengthened in lung cancer cells with respect to the other vibrational bands compared to normal cells. This finding suggests that more extensive phosphorylation occur in cancer cells. These results demonstrate that lung cancer cells may be prescreened using infrared spectroscopy tools. -
Radioprotective effects of fucoidan on bone marrow cells: improvement of the cell survival and immunoreactivity
Yun-Young Byon, Mi-Hyoung Kim, Eun-Sook Yoo, Kyu-Kye Hwang, Youngheun Jee, Taekyun Shin, Hong-Gu Joo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages

variety of biological effects including mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Recently, we demonstrated that fucoidan stimulates the antigen-presenting functions of dendritic cells. In this study, we investigated the radioprotective effects of fucoidan on bone marrow cells (BMCs), which are the main cellular reservoir for the hematopoietic and immune system. To evaluate the effects of fucoidan, we assayed cell viability and immune responses. In a viability assay, fucoidan significantly... -

Jong Hyeon Park, Sun Jin Kim, Jae Ku Oem, Kwang Nyeong Lee, Yong Joo Kim, Soo Jeong Kye, Jee Yong Park, Yi Seok Joo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 3호 8 257-262 (6 pages)
The capsid of the foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus carries the epitopes that are critical for inducing the immune response. In an attempt to enhance the specific immune response, plasmid DNA was constructed to express VP1/interleukin-1α (IL-1α) and precursor capsid (P1) in combination with 2A (P1-2A)/IL-1α under the control of the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) immediateearly promoter and intron. After DNA transfection into MA104 (monkey kidney) cells, Western blotting and an... -

as a cellular receptor. Cellular receptors play an important role in virus attachment and entry. However, the low permissiveness of PEDV to APN-expressing porcine cell lines has made it difficult to elucidate the role of pAPN in vitro. The purpose of this study was to prove whether the treatment of soluble pAPN could enhance the antibody production against PEDV in guinea pigs, rabbits and sows. The animals (20 guinea pigs, 8 rabbits and 20 sows) were divided into 4 groups. Group A was injected...
