of MgO and MnO2, respectively. The FESEM micrographs analysis showed a smooth but coarser structure in all the ACNFs. Meanwhile, the ACNF/MgO has the smallest fiber diameter (314.38±62.42 nm) compared to other ACNFs. The presence of MgO and MnO2 inside the ACNFs was also confirmed with EDX analysis as well as XRD. The adsorption capacities of each ACNF toward CH4 were tested with the volumetric adsorption method in which the ACNF/MgO exhibited the highest CH4 adsorption up to 2.39 mmol g?1.... -
Dispersions of partially reduced graphene oxide in various organic solvents and polymers
Hye Min Kim, Seo Gyun Kim, Heon Sang Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 8 55-62 (8 pages)
We report on the dispersion state of partially reduced graphene oxide (PRGO) in organic solvents, namely methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, toluene, and xylene, by controlling the carbon to oxygen (C/O) atomic ratio of the PRGOs. A two-phase solvent exchange method is also proposed to transfer PRGO from water to an aprotic solvent, such as methyl ethyl ketone. We achieve relatively good dispersion in aprotic and non-polar solvents by controlling the C/O atomic ratio of the... -
Effect of added mesophase pitch during the pitch synthesis reaction of PFO
Ji Hong Kim, Jong Gu Kim, Chul Wee Lee, Ki Bong Lee, Ji Sun Im 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 7 48-54 (7 pages)
This research considers the effect of added mesophase pitch (MP) as an additive during the pitch synthesis reaction of pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO). Two effects are generated by adding MP. One is an enhancement of thermal stability due to the high thermal property of the additive; the other is that the volatile compounds that were removed by vaporization of PFO during the thermal reaction can participate in the pitch synthesis reaction (PFO→pitch) more efficiently. The effect differs according to... -
Removal of chromium from tannery wastewater by electrosorption on carbon prepared from peach stones: effect of applied potential
Mounir Ziati, Fariza Khemmari, Mohamed Kecir, Sabir Hazourli 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 10 81-85 (5 pages)
The objective of this study is the removal of chromium from tannery wastewater by electrosorption on carbon prepared from lignocellulosic natural residue "peach stones' thermally treated. The followed steps for obtaining coal in chronological order were: cleaning, drying, crushing and finally its carbonization at 900°C. The characterization of the carbon material resulted in properties comparable to those of many coals industrially manufactured. The study of the dynamic adsorption of chromium... -
Biologically activated graphite fiber electrode for autotrophic acetate production from CO2 in a bioelectrochemical system
Chae Ho Im, Young Eun Song, Byong-Hun Jeon, Jung Rae Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 12 76-80 (5 pages)
Recently, microbial electrosynthesis (MESs) has been highlighted for the purpose of biological CO2 reduction with simultaneous production of intermediates and value-added chemicals. The bioelectrochemical system (BES), which employs microorganisms and a bacterial community as a biocatalyst, has been developed to convert CO2, a greenhouse gas, into liquid biofuels, such as ethanol and butanol, as well as platform chemicals [1]. Several bacterial species, called cathodophilic microorganisms (e.g.,... -
Effect of acid catalysts on carbonization temperatures for ordered mesoporous carbon materials
Jeong Kuk Shon, Xing Jin, Yun Seok Choi, Jong Gu Won, Yoon Kyung Hwang, Dae Jong You, Chengbin Li, Ji Man Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 10 66-71 (6 pages)
Highly ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) materials have attracted much attention in many fields including catalysis, adsorption and energy storage, due to their high porosity, high surface area and controllable regular pore-structure [1-6]. Successful synthesis pathways for obtaining OMC materials include the direct synthesis of OMC materials through the organic-organic self-assembly method (soft templating process) and nano-replication of OMC materials from mesoporous silica templates (hard... -

pores on the surface of the activated carbon. The presence of important functional groups was shown by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectrum. The adsorption of methyl orange onto the activated carbon reached 100% after 12 min. Kinetic analysis indicated that the adsorption of methyl orange solution by the activated carbon followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic mechanism (R2 > 0.995). Therefore, the results show that the produced activated carbon can be used as a proper adsorbent f... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 10 79-88 (10 pages)
As a replacement for activated carbon, biochar was synthesized and used for the adsorptive removal of formaldehyde and nitrogen oxide. Biochar was produced from the fast pyrolysis of the red marine macro alga, Pyropia tenera. The P. tenera char was then activated with steam, ammonia and KOH to alter its characteristics. The adsorption of formaldehyde, which is one of the main indoor air pollutants, onto the seaweed char was performed using 1-ppm formaldehyde and the char was activated using a... -
A review: role of interfacial adhesion between carbon blacks and elastomeric materials
Min-Joo Kang, Young-Jung Heo, Fan-Long Jin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 1 1-10 (10 pages)
Carbon blacks (CBs) have been widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced rubber composites. The mechanical properties of CB-reinforced rubber composites are mostly controlled by the extent of interfacial adhesion between the CBs and the rubber. Surface treatments are generally performed on CBs to introduce chemical functional groups on its surface. In this study, we review the effects of various surface treatment methods for CBs. In addition, the preparation and properties of CB-reinforced... -

Hui Yuan, Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 2 11-17 (7 pages)
Recently, with continuous developments in the field of materials science, graphene oxide (GO) has emerged as a promising material with excellent electrical, thermal, mechanical, and optical properties, which play important roles in most fields. Researchers have achieved considerable progress with graphene. Chitosan (CS) is a natural polymer that has been studied intensively owing to its specific formation, high chemical resistance, and excellent physical properties. These outstanding properties...
