Luca Aresu*, Silvia Benali, Diana Giannuzzi, Roberto Mantovani, Massimo Castagnaro, Maria Elena Falomo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 2호 8 171-177 (7 pages)
Equine endometriosis is a multifactorial disease considered to be a major cause of equine infertility. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability of histomorphological grading for biopsy-like samples compared to entire uterine wall samples, to examine the association between the degree of endometriosis with animal age, and to investigate the role of inflammation in endometriosis and the expression of different matrix metalloproteinases in equine endometrium. Histomorphological... -
Cloning and characterization of a selenium-independent glutathione peroxidase (HC29) from adult Haemonchus contortus
Wei Sun, Xiaokai Song, Ruofeng Yan, Lixin Xu, Xiangrui Li* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 8 49-58 (10 pages)
a protein of 168 amino acid with a calculated molecular mass of 18.9 kDa. Amino acid sequence analysis revealed that the cloned HC29 cDNA contained the conserved catalytic triad and dimer interface of selenium-independent glutathione peroxidase (GPX). Alignment of the predicted amino acid sequences demonstrated that the protein shared 44.7∼80.4% similarity with GPX homologues in the thioredoxin-like family. Phylogenetic analysis revealed close evolutionary proximity of the GPX sequence to the... -

the growth of HepG2 cells and induced apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. Pro-apoptotic activity was promoted via the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis, as demonstrated by the activation of pro-apoptotic proteins Bax, caspase-9, caspase-3, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase as well as the down-regulation of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. These results suggest that BEE may have potential use in hepatic cancer chemoprevention by suppressing cancer cell growth via pro-apoptotic activity. -
Aerosol delivery of kinase-deficient Akt1 attenuates Clara cell injury induced by naphthalene in the lungs of dual luciferase mice

to the mice via intraperitoneal injection. Aerosol delivery of Akt1 WT and naphthalene treatment increased protein levels of downstream substrates of Akt signaling pathway while aerosol delivery of Akt1 KD did not. Our results showed that naphthalene affected extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) protein levels, ERK-related signaling, and induced Clara cell injury. However, Clara cell injury induced by naphthalene was considerably attenuated in mice exposed to Akt1 KD. Furthermore, a dual... -
Pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine expression and histopathological characteristics in canine brain with traumatic brain injury

both pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-a] and anti-inflammatory cytokines [IL-10 and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b)] were highly expressed in neurons and neutrophils. In particular, the highest magnitude of expression was identified for IL-1b and TGF-b. This data helps describe the pathologic characteristics of canine TBI, and may help in the design of potential therapeutic approaches to control secondary damage by inflammatory cytokines. -
Influence of nitric oxide on in vitro growth, survival, steroidogenesis, and apoptosis of follicle stimulating hormone stimulated buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) preantral follicles
Pawan K. Dubey, Vrajesh Tripathi, Ram Pratap Singh, G. Taru Sharma* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 9 257-265 (9 pages)
Effect of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, on in vitro survival, growth, steroidogenesis, and apoptosis of buffalo preantral follicles (PFs) was investigated. PFs (200∼250 mm) were isolated by micro-dissection and cultured in 0 (control), 10, 10, 10, and 10 M SNP. To examine the reversible effect of SNP, PFs were cultured with 10 M SNP + 1 mM N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) or 1.0 mg hemoglobin (Hb). The results showed that greater concentrations of SNP (10,... -
Cytotoxicity of gamma-ray in rat immature hippocampal neurons
Miyoung Yang, Myoung-Sub Song, Sung-Ho Kim, Jong-Choon Kim, Joong-Sun Kim, Taekyun Shin, Changjong Moon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 1 203-207 (5 pages)
This in vitro study evaluated the detrimental effect of acute gamma (g)-irradiation on rat immature hippocampal neurons. Rat immature hippocampal neurons (0.5 day in vitro) were irradiated with 0∼4 Gy g-rays. Cytotoxicity was analyzed using a lactate dehydrogenase release assay at 24 h after g-irradiation. Radiation-induced cytotoxicity in immature hippocampal neurons increased in a dose- dependent manner. Pre-treatments of pro-apoptotic caspase inhibitors and anti-oxidative substances... -
Catheter-guided percutaneous heartworm removal using a nitinol basket in dogs with caval syndrome
Won-Kyoung Yoon, Donghyun Han, Changbaig Hyun 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 2호 15 199-201 (3 pages)
Carval syndrome is a severe heartworm infection where the worms have migrated to the right atrium and vena cava; this condition is associated with a myriad of clinical signs. Several non-surgical and interventional methods are currently used for mechanical worm removal. However, the success rate and complications related to these methods are heavily dependent on methodology and retrieval devices used. In this study, we developed a catheter-guided heartworm removal method using a retrieval basket... -

The X-ray synchrotron is quite different from conventional radiation sources. This technique may expand the capabilities of conventional radiology and be applied in novel manners for special cases. To evaluate the usefulness of X-ray synchrotron radiation systems for real time observations, mouse fetal skeleton development was monitored with a high resolution X-ray synchrotron. A non-monochromatized X-ray synchrotron (white beam, 5C1 beamline) was employed to observe the skeleton of mice under... -
