Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 5 91-112 (22 pages)
qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews. The study’s findings show that preschool teachers are under a great deal of stress. Their work is multifaceted and entails major responsibility, causing them to feel “alone in the battle.” Most preschool teachers find it difficult to strike a balance between their professional and their personal lives. The study found that during the course of their work, all the interviewed teachers had helped at least one child and his or her family cope with... -
Conceptualisations of Parent Involvement in Early Childhood Education in China
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 8 169-192 (24 pages)
There is a growing attention for parent involvement in education in general and in early childhood education in particular. The vast majority of scholarly literature is published in English language and originates from Western countries. There is a risk that this may lead to the assumption that mainstream ideas in international literature are globally valid and come to dominate those of other countries, despite cultural differences. We conducted a systematic review of Chinese literature on... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 3 49-69 (21 pages)
Resilience is defined as a “positive adaption in the face of risk or adversity” (Wright, Masten, & Narayan, 2013). Both the teachers’ resilience and their readiness to develop preschool children’s resilience were examined in the Hong Kong context (n=196). Results from the K-means cluster analysis indicated that Hong Kong preschool teachers had a relatively high level of resilience, with family being a significant contributing factor. These teachers were generally ready to foster children’s... -

Dickson Adom, Joshua Ebere Chukwuere, Atsu Dennis Dake, Jerry Pratt Newton 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.1 7 129-151 (23 pages)
Problem learners in Ghanaian schools are often marginalized and/or ignored during the teaching and learning processes in the classroom. The study was carried out using the convergent parallel mixed method design with questionnaire, focus group discussion, and one-on-one interviews as the data collection instruments. The purposive, convenient, and stratified random sampling techniques were used in selecting a total sample size of 112 participants consisting of identified problem learners,... -

We (1) describe the origin of the kindergarten system invented by Froebel, (2) explain how Froebel’s kindergarten system has influenced the kindergarten system in the USA and South Korea, and (3) offer conclusive statements and implications about the application of Froebel’s original thoughts on the kindergarten system in both countries. in on a daily basis and share with the children. Placing the focus on the adult’s viewpoint meant investigating their experiences and how these can condition the children's relations with more natural, destructured spaces. The results gathered by two tools, heart maps and lived-experience descriptions reveal difficulties teachers experience in connection with some spaces which are considered challenging and the necessity to support teachers in the reappropriation of those spaces with a view to... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.1 2 19-37 (19 pages)
A developmental view of child development with its biological imperatives has been extensively critiqued over the years and found to be wanting from a range of cultural (Rogoff, 2003; Howes, 2010), social (Qvortrup, Corsaro & Honig, 2009) and even health (Bendelow, 2009; Rogoff, 2011) reasons. But what has been missing from these debates has been a theoretically robust presentation of another way of conceptualizing children’s development (Hedegaard & Fleer, 2013). In drawing upon... -

A pedagogical framework is introduced which captures the unique characteristics of fairy tales in the context of the pedagogical features that were used by the educators in the study presented. The key...
