Our objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of skin-stretching devices for closing defects on the extremities of dogs. Antebrachial skin defects were created on the limbs of 24 dogs randomly divided into three groups. Skin stretchers included staples and sutures passing through them (group A), sutures and hypodermic needles (group B), and Pavletic device (group C). Wounds on the left were further undermined in all groups. Tension and blood perfusion were assessed.... -
Use of canine small intestinal submucosa allograft for treating perineal hernias in two dogs

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 3호 16 327-330 (4 pages)
Here, we describe two dogs in which canine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) was implanted as a biomaterial scaffold during perineal herniorrhaphy. Both dogs had developed severe muscle weakness, unilaterally herniated rectal protrusions, and heart problems with potential anesthetic risks. Areas affected by the perineal hernia (PH) located between the internal obturator and external anal sphincter muscles were reconstructed with naive canine SIS sheets. In 12 months, post-operative complications... -

A seven months old, tiger shovelnose catfish was referred to the veterinary medical teaching hospital of the college of veterinary medicine, Konkuk university because of suspecting a foreign body in the stomach. By physical and radiologic examinations, the catfish revealed abdominal enlargement, vomiting, inactivity and radiopaque foreign bodies in the stomach. Under general anesthesia with dilute isoflurane solution, celiotomy was performed. Stomach was atonic, and three foreign bodies were... -
The Effects of Korean Red Ginseng (Ginseng Radix Rubra) on Liver Regeneration after Partial Hepatectomy in Dogs
Young-sam Kwon, Kwang-ho Jang, In-ho Jang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 1호 13 83-92 (10 pages)
We investigated the effects of the oral administration of Korean red ginseng (KRG) on morphologic change and function of liver in dogs. Fifteen adult mongrel dogs (n=15) were divided into three groups: a control group (40% hepatectomy, untreated), a 250 group (40% hepatectomy, 250 mg/kg of KRG, PO), and a 500 group (40% hepatectomy, 500 mg/kg of KRG, PO). The liver regeneration, histologic findings, CBC (WBC, RBC, PCV, and PLT), and liver function tests (AST, ALT, GGT, ALP, LDH, and T-bil) were... -

[6-9]. Generally, C/C composites are produced by the carbonization of the matrix precursors of carbon composites. However, some defects, such as porosity and micro-cracks, are also induced during carbonization, and these defects degrde the mechanical properties. Therefore, various methods have been adopted to reduce the development of defects during the manufacture of C/C composites [10-14]. On the other hand, coal tar pitch extracted from the recycling of petroleum-based fuel is relatively... -

In this work, we studied the effects of electrochemical oxidation treatments of carbon fibers (CFs) on interfacial adhesion between CF and epoxy resin with various current densities. The surface morphologies and properties of the CFs before and after electrochemical-oxidation-treatment were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and single-fiber contact angle. The... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 2 11-17 (7 pages)
Recently, with continuous developments in the field of materials science, graphene oxide (GO) has emerged as a promising material with excellent electrical, thermal, mechanical, and optical properties, which play important roles in most fields. Researchers have achieved considerable progress with graphene. Chitosan (CS) is a natural polymer that has been studied intensively owing to its specific formation, high chemical resistance, and excellent physical properties. These outstanding properties... -

In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist...
