Effects of Nitric Oxide on Inhibitory Receptors of Rod Bipolar Cells of Rat Retina
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 6 347-352 (6 pages)
The effects of nitric oxide (NO) on inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors and some types of inhibitory receptors in dissociated rod bipolar cell (RBC) were investigated. In the whole cell voltage-clamping mode, the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activated current showed both sustained and transient components. GABA activated transient current was fully blocked by bicuculine, a GABAA receptor antagonist. The cis-4-aminocrotonic acid (CACA), a GABAC receptor agonist, evoked the sustained current... -

B/K protein is a novel protein containing double C2-like domains. We examined the specific signaling pathway that regulates the transcription of B/K in PC12 cells. When the cells were treated with forskolin (50μM), B/K mRNA and protein levels were time-dependently decreased, reaching the lowest level at 3 or 4 hr, and thereafter returning to the control level. Chemicals such as dibutyryl-cAMP, cell- permeable cyclic AMP (cAMP) analogue and CGS21680, adenosine receptor A2A agonist, also... -
Conditioned Medium from Dying Smooth Muscle Cell Induced Apoptotic Death
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 1 315-322 (8 pages)
In this study, the authors investigated whether death of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) had a pathological pertinence. Conditioned media obtained from rat aorta smooth muscle cell (SMC) that were induced death by expressing FADD in the absence of tetracycline (FADD-SMC) triggered death of normal SMC. DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 activation were observed in dying SMC by conditioned media. FADD-SMC showed transcriptional activation of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. Conditioned medium... -
Characterization of ETB Receptor-mediated Relaxation in Precontracted Mesenteric Artery from Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.5 8 305-313 (9 pages)
Diabetes mellitus is associated with vascular complications, including an impairment of vascular function and alterations in the reactivity of blood vessels to vasoactive substances in various vasculature. In the present study, the authors have observed endothelin-B (ETB) receptor agonist-induced relaxation in precontracted mesenteric arterial segments from streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats, which was not shown from control rats or in other arterial segments from diabetic rats.... -
Inhibition of Hypoxia-induced Apoptosis in PC12 Cells by Estradiol

Neuronal apoptotic events, which result in cell death, are occurred in hypoxic/ischemic conditions. Estradiol is a female sex hormone with steroid structure known to provide neuroprotection through multiple mechanisms in the central nervous system. This study was aimed to investigate the signal transduction pathway of CoCl2-induced neuronal cell death and the inhibitory effects of estradiol. Administration of CoCl2 decreased cell viability in both a dose- and time-dependent manner in PC12 cells.... -
What is the Key Step in Muscle Fatty Acid Oxidation after Change of Plasma Free Fatty Acids Level in Rats?
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.3 7 173-178 (6 pages)
The purpose of this study was to discern the critical point in skeletal muscle fatty acid oxidation by changing plasma free fatty acids (FFA) level in rat. In the study, 3 key steps in lipid oxidation were examined after changing plasma FFA level by acipimox. The rates of both palmitate and palmitoyl- carnitine oxidation were decreased by decrease of plasma FFA level, however, carnitine palmitoyl transferase (CPT) 1 activity was not changed, suggesting CPT1 activity may not be involved in the... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.3 6 165-172 (8 pages)
The aim of this study was to determine the roles of ET-1 and NO on uterine blood flow in pregnancy. Uterine arteries were isolated from 17 nonpregnant and 12 pregnant women. Nonpregnant group included patients with median age of 48.6⁑2.3 years who underwent hysterectomy, because of myoma. Pregnant group included patients with median age of 31.3⁑1.4 years undergoing cesarean delivery. ET-1 and ET-2 induced concentration-dependent contraction in isolated nonpregnant and pregnant... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.3 4 155-158 (4 pages)
In this study, we investigated whether sphingosine-1-phosphate, furosemide, and indomethacin affect mucin release from airway goblet cells. Confluent primary hamster tracheal surface epithelial cells were metabolically radiolabeled and chased for 30 min or 24 hr in the presence of varying concentrations of the above agents to assess the effects on 3H-mucin release. Sphingosine-1-phosphate stimulated mucin release during 30 min of treatment period in a dose-dependent manner. However, furosemide... -

mV in physiological K gradient). The 106 pS channels were activated by membrane potential and [Ca2]i, consistent with the known properties of BKCa channels. BKCa channels in CRL-1474 were positively regulated by adenylate cyclase activator (10μM forskolin), 8-Br-cyclic AMP (300μM) or 8-Br-cyclic GMP (300μM). These results suggest that human skin fibroblasts (CR-1474) have typical BKCa channel and this channel could be modulated by c-AMP and c-GMP. The electrophysiological... -
Higher Expression of TRPM7 Channels in Murine Mature B Lymphocytes than Immature Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

TRPM7, a cation channel protein permeable to various metal ions such as Mg2, is ubiquitously expressed in variety of cells including lymphocytes. The activity of TRPM7 is tightly regulated by intracellular Mg2, thus named Mg2-inhibited cation (MIC) current, and its expression is known to be critical for the viability and proliferation of B lymphocytes. In this study, the level of MIC current was compared between immature (WEHI-231) and mature (Bal-17) B lymphocytes. In both...
