대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 12 369-373 (5 pages)
This study was performed to test whether endomorphin-1 has analgesic effect, when locally administrated into inflamed peripheral tissue. Carrageenan suspension (0.5%) was injected intraplantarly into the right paw of Sprague-Dawley male rats, and the rats were subjected to a series of mechanical stimuli with von Frei filaments before and after the injection. Carrageenan-injected rats showed typical inflammatory hyperalgesic signs and decrease of withdrawal threshold, peaked at 3 to 6 hours after... -
Prevention of Diabetes Using Adenoviral Mediated Hepatocyte Growth Factor Gene Transfer in Mice

Type 1 diabetes is an organ-specific autoimmune disease caused by the cytotoxic T cells-mediated destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the Langerhans pancreatic islets. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a potent mitogen and a promoter of proliferation of insulin producing beta cells of pancreatic islets. To study the role of HGF via viral vector in the development of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in mice, we have developed an adenoviral vector genetically engineered to carry... -
Influence of Bradykinin on Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

L-type Ca2 channels. However, in the presence of (N-Methyl-D-Phe7)-bradykinin trifluoroacetate salt (3⁓108 M), an antagonist of BK2-bradykinin receptor, bradykinin no longer enhanced the CA secretion evoked by Ach and high potassium whereas the pretreatment with Lys-(des-Arg9, Leu8)-bradykinin trifluoroacetate salt (3⁓108 M), an antagonist of BK1-bradykinin receptor did fail to affect them. Furthermore, the perfusion with bradykinin (3⁓106 M) into an... -
Effects of Dopamine on Intracellular pH in Opossum Kidney Cells

amplitude of intracellular acidification by isosmotical Na removal from the bath medium in chronically dopamine-treated cells were much smaller than those in control. Although it seemed to be attenuated in Na-dependent pH regulation system, Na-dependent pHi recovery by NHE after intracelluar acid loading in the dopamine-treated groups was not significantly different from the control. The result is interpreted to be due to the balance between the stimulation effects of lower... -
Altered Expression of Aquaporins in Rat Submandibular Glands after Parasympathetic Denervation

after denervation. Besides, AQP3 and 8, which is known to be present in basolateral membrane of the glandular acini, were gradually underexpressed after denervation, similar to the pattern of other types. Expression of ERK, a mitogen-activated protein kinase, was downregulated after parasympathetic denervation in the submandibular gland. These results suggest that parasympathetic nervous system regulates the expression of AQPs in salivary glands, and is in part mediated by ERK pathway. -
Inhibition of NF-κB Activation Increases Oxygen-Glucose Deprivation-Induced Cerebral Endothelial Cell Death

Increasing evidences suggest that ischemia-induced vascular damage is an integral step in the cascade of the cellular and molecular events initiated by cerebral ischemia. In the present study, employing a mouse brain endothelioma-derived cell line, bEnd.3, and oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) as an in vitro stroke model, the role of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation during ischemic injury was investigated. OGD was found to activate NF-κB and to induce bEnd.3 cell death in a... -
Effects of Noradrenaline on the Membrane Potential of Prostatic Neuroendocrine Cells of Rat

of N-type Ca2 channels, respectively, in rat prostate neuroendocrine cells (RPNECs). In this study, the effects of NA on the resting membrane potential (RMP) of RPNECs were investigated using a whole-cell patch clamp method. Fresh RPNECs were dissociated from the ventral lobe of rat prostate and identified from its characteristic shape; round or oval shape with dark cytoplasm. Under zero-current clamp conditions with KCl pipette solution, the resting membrane potential (RMP) of RPNECs was... -
Altered Secretory Pattern of Pancreatic Enzymes and Gastrointestinal Hormones in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats

pancreatic enzymes secretion and in pancreatic enzymes content were observed. The output and the tissue content of amylase were significantly reduced in diabetic rats, while the output and the content of lipase were increased. Plasma secretin and cholecystokinin (CCK) concentrations of diabetic rats were significantly increased compared to those of normal rats. The altered pancreatic exocrine function was abolished by the exogenous insulin administration. The exogenous insulin also restored the... -
Normal Anxiety, Fear and Depression-related Behaviors in Mice Lacking α-Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide

to the mice behaviors. αCGRP-knockout mice performed equally as well as wild type mice in the light-dark transition test and in the elevated plus maze test of anxiety. αCGRP-null mice behaved similarly as wild-type mice in the Porsolt swim test of depression. They also exhibited normal learning and memory in the fear conditioning tasks. It is concluded that αCGRP is not essential for mice to be able to perform these tests, despite the presence of αCGRP in the relevant regions of the brain. -
Effects of Interleukin-1β and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α on the Release of Collagenase and Gelatinase from Osteoblasts

A large number of factors such as osteotropic hormones, cytokines, or growth factors are related to the bone remodeling which is characterized by the coupling of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and osteoblast-mediated bone formation. Recent investigations have indicated that cytokines such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) play a potential role in the bone resorption associated with a variety of pathological conditions such as inflammatory osteolytic disease....
