Stationary Outward and Transient Ca2+-Dependent Currents in Hamster Oocytes
Yang-MiKim, Jae-HeeHan, Jong-SuKim, Seong-GeunHong 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 9 403-408 (6 pages)
The outward currents elicited in hamster eggs by depolarizing pulses were studied. The currents appeared to comprise at least two components, a transient outward component (Ito) and a steady-state outward component (I∞). Ito was transiently followed by the cessation of inward Ca2 current (ICa), and its current-voltage (I-V) relation was a mirror image of that of ICa. Either blockade of ICa by Co2 or replacement of Ca2 with Sr2 abolished Ito without change in I∞.... -

fibroblast cell line, CCL 1, all THIs increased the cell viability in a concentration dependent manner. The concentrations of THIs used are not cytotoxic by itself when analysed by MTT. Furthermore, nitrite/nitrate level was significantly reduced by the presence of THIs in cells treated with LPSinterferon-γ (IFN-γ). It is concluded, thus, that these results strongly indicated that THIs can suppress the TNF-α expression and reduce NO, which may be useful for the inflammatory disorders. -
Combined Trial of Fish Oil and Exercise Training Prevents Impairment in Insulin Action on Glucose Transport of Skeletal Muscle Induced by High-Fat Diet in Rats

The purpose of the present study was to determine the preventive effects of combined interventional trial of fish oil treatment and exercise training on insulin resistance of skeletal muscle in high-fat fed rats. Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into chow diet (CD), high-fat diet (HF), high-fat diet with fish oil (FO), high-fat diet with exercise training (EX), and FOEX groups. The rats in control group were fed chow diet containing, as percents of calories, 58.9% carbohydrate,... -
Effects of Norepinephrine and Neuropeptide Y on the Contractility of Small Mesenteric Artery from 2K1C and DOCA-Salt Hypertensive Rats

The present study was conducted to investigate the possible role of the sympathetic nervous system in two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertension. 2K1C and DOCA- salt hypertension were made in Sprague-Dawley rats. Four weeks after induction of hypertension, systolic blood pressure measured in conscious state was significantly higher in 2K1C (216⁑18 mmHg) and DOCA-salt (205⁑29 mmHg) groups than that in control (128⁑4 mmHg). The third... -

from the slope of the relationship between single channel current and pipette potential (20∼100 mV) was not significantly altered by propofol (control: 60.0⁑2.7 pS, 0.1 mM propofol: 58.7⁑3.5 pS). However, mean closed time was surely increased. Above results indicate that propofol blocks the KATP channels in the pancreatic beta cells in the range of its blood concentrations during anesthesia, suggesting a possible effect on insulin secretion and blood glucose level. -
Responses of Dorsal Horn Neurons to Peripheral Chemical Stimulation in the Spinal Cord of Anesthetized Cats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 3 15-24 (10 pages)
Although nociceptive informations are thought to be processed via different neural mechanisms depending on the types of stimuli, sufficient data have not been accumulated yet. We performed a series of experiments to elucidate the possible neural mechanisms as to chemical stimuli such as formalin, capsaicin and ATP. Single unit activity of wide dynamic range (WDR) neurons and high threshold cells were recorded extracellularly from the lumbosacral enlargement of cat spinal cord before and after... -
Effect of Capsaicin on Delayed Rectifier K+ Current in Adult Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons
JunghyunHahn, SungkwonChung, HyoweonBang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 2 9-14 (6 pages)
K currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier K current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the... -
Effect of C1 Esterase Inhibitor on the Cardiac Dysfunction Following Ischemia and Reperfusion in the Isolated Perfused Rat Heart
Geon-YoungLee, Yong-KyooShin, Yoon-YoungJang, Jin-HoSong, Dae-JoongKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.6 6 579-586 (8 pages)
Complement-mediated neutrophil activation has been hypothesized to be an important mechanism of reperfusion injury. It has been proposed that C1 esterase inhibitor (C1 INH) may prevent the complement- dependent activation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) that occurs within postischemic myocardium. Therefore, The effect of C1 INH was examined in neutrophil dependent isolated perfused rat heart model of ischemia (I) (20 min) and reperfusion (R) (45 min). Administration of C1 INH (5 mg/Kg)... -
Hemorrhage- and Restraint-induced Analgesia in Male and Female Conscious Rats

It is well known that stress induces analgesia. This study was designed to demonstrate the stress-induced analgesia by employing hemorrhage and restraint and to investigate its mechanism and sex difference. The degree of pain was assessed by measuring the magnitude of jaw opening reflex produced by a noxious electrical stimulation in the dental pulp and by measuring the latency to withdraw the tail from a heat ray. Restraint showed an antinociceptive response. A significant increase in pain... -

Bone is a complex tissue in which resorption and formation continue throughout life. The bone tissue contains various types of cells, of which the bone forming osteoblasts and bone resorbing osteoclasts are mainly responsible for bone remodeling. Periodontal disease represents example of abnormal bone remodeling. Osteoclasts are multinucleated cells present only in bone. It is believed that osteoclast progenitors are hematopoietic origin, and they are recruited from hematopoietic tissues such...
