한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2021, 37권 1호 3 36-46 (11 pages)
Acidovorax citrulli (Ac) is the causal agent of bacterial fruit blotch (BFB) in watermelon, a disease that poses a serious threat to watermelon production. Because of the lack of resistant cultivars against BFB, virulence factors or mechanisms need to be elucidated to control the disease. Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is the enzyme involved in glycerol production from glucose during glycolysis. In this study, we report the functions of a putative glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase in Ac... -
Antagonistic Activity of Bacteria Isolated from Apple in Different Fruit Development Stages against Blue Mold Caused by Penicillium expansum
Roc?o Crystabel L?pez-Gonz?lez, Yara Suhan Ju?rez-Campusano, Jos? Luis Rodr?guez-Ch?vez, Guillermo Delgado-Lamas, Sof?a Mar?a Arvizu Medrano, Ram?n ?lvar Mart?nez-Peniche, Juan Ramiro Pacheco-Aguilar 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages

Blue mold caused by Penicillium expansum is one of the most significant postharvest diseases of apples. Some microorganisms associated with the surface of ripen- ing apples possess the ability to inhibit the growth of P. expansum. However, the existing literature about their colonization in the stages before ripening is not explored in depth. This study aims to characterize the antagonistic capacity of bacterial populations from five fruit development stages of ‘Royal Gala’ apples. The re-... -
Inhibition of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. nicotianae Growth by Phenylpropanoid Pathway Intermediates

disease‑management challenge worldwide, as there are few effective and environmentally benign chemical agents for its control. This challenge results in substantial losses in both the quality and yield of tobacco products. Based on an in vitro analysis of the effects of different phenylpropanoid intermediates, we found that the early intermediates trans‑cinnamic acid and para‑coumaric acid effectively inhibit the mycelial growth of F. oxysporum f. sp. nicotianae strain FW316F,... -
Inhibitory Activity of Sedum middendorffianum-Derived 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid and Vanillic Acid on the Type III Secretion System of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000

without growth retardation of Pst DC3000. Auto-agglutination of Pst DC3000 cells, which is induced by T3SS, was impaired by the treatment of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid. Additionally, 2.5 mM of each two phenolic acids attenuated disease symptoms including chlorosis surrounding bacterial specks on tomato leaves. Our results suggest that 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid are potential anti-virulence agents suppressing T3SS of Pst DC3000 for the control of bacterial diseases. -
Synergistic Interactions of Schizostatin Identified from Schizophyllum commune with Demethylation Inhibitor Fungicides

with 5 μg/ml tebuconazole, schizostatin (1 μg/ml) showed disease control efficacy against gray mold on tomato leaf similar to that achieved with 20 μg/ml tebuconazole treatment alone. Interestingly, schizostatin showed demethylation inhibitor (DMI)-specific synergistic interactions in the crossed-paper strip assay using commercial fungicides. In a checkerboard assay with schizostatin and DMIs, the fractional inhibitory concentration values were 0.0938-0.375. To assess the molecular mechanisms... -
Inhibitory Effect of Moriniafungin Produced by Setosphaeria rostrata F3736 on the Development of Rhizopus Rot

apple and peach fruits. Treatment with 25 μg/ ml moriniafungin delimited the lesion diameter significantly by 100% on R. oryzae-inoculated apple fruits compared with the non-treated control. Treatment with 0.04 μg/ml of moriniafungin reduced the lesion diameter significantly by 56.45%, and treatment with higher concentrations of 0.2-25 μg/ml reduced the lesion diameter by 70-90% on Rhizopus stolonifer var. stoloniferinoculated peach fruit. These results suggest moriniafungin has potential as... -

Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) is a distinct member of the Polerovirus genus of the Luteoviridae family. SCYLV is the major limitation to sugarcane production worldwide and presently occurring in most of the sugarcane growing countries. SCYLV having high genetic diversity within the species and presently ten genotypes are known to occur based on the complete genome sequence information. SCYLV is present in almost all the states of India where sugarcane is grown. Virion comprises of 180 coat... -
Assessment of the Contribution of Antagonistic Secondary Metabolites to the Antifungal and Biocontrol Activities of Pseudomonas fluorescens NBC275

An understanding of the contribution of secondary metabolites (SMs) to the antagonistic and biocontrol activities of bacterial biocontrol agents serves to improve biocontrol potential of the strain. In this study, to evaluate the contribution of each SM produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens NBC275 (Pf275) to its antifungal and biocontrol activity, we combined in silico analysis of the genome with our previous study of transposon (Tn) mutants. Thirteen Tn mutants, which belonged to 6 biosynthetic... -
Effect of Introducing Chitinase Gene on the Resistance of Tuber Mustard against White Mold

The objective of this research was introduction of chit42 to tuber mustard plants through Agrobacterium- mediated transformation against white mold caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The binary plasmid pGisPEC1 was used in this study. Polymerase chain reaction analysis detected the transgene in 27 transformants with a transformation efficiency of 6.9%. Southern blot test was used to assess the copy number of transgene in tuber mustard plants. One, two, two, and two chit42- related bands were... -
Mixed Infection of Sugarcane Yellow Leaf Virus and Grassy Shoot Phytoplasma in Yellow Leaf Affected Indian Sugarcane Cultivars
Kadirvel Nithya, Balasubramaniam Parameswari, Rasappa Viswanathan 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 4호 7 364-377 (14 pages)
Sugarcane is an important sugar crop contributes more than 80% of world sugar production. Mosaic, leaf fleck, and yellow leaf (YL) are the major viral diseases af- fecting sugarcane, amongst YL occurrence is widely reported in all the sugarcane growing countries. It is caused by Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) and detailed works were done on complete genome charac- terization, transmission, and management. However, in countries like Egypt, South Africa, Cuba, Mauritius and Hawaii, the...
