Influence of Tacrine on Catecholamine Secretion in the Perfused Rat Adrenal Gland
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 6 207-214 (8 pages)
The present study was designed to clarify whether tacrine affects the release of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused model of rat adrenal gland or not and to elucidate the mechanism of its action. Tacrine (3⁓105∼3⁓104 M) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min inhibited CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (a selective neuronal nicotinic agonist, 104 M for 2 min) and McN-A-343 (a selective muscarinic M1-agonist,... -
Enhanced Expression of Aldosterone Synthase and Adrenomedullin in Left and Right Ventricular Hypertrophy in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 9 121-126 (6 pages)
The pathophysiological implications of aldosterone and adrenomedullin in the cardiac ventricular hypertrophy were examined. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt and monocrotaline (MCT) to selectively elicit left and right ventricular (LV, RV) hypertrophy, respectively. The mRNA expression of aldosterone synthase and adrenomedullin in LV and RV was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The expression of aldosterone synthase... -
Noradrenergic Modulation of Spontaneous Inhibitory Postsynaptic Currents in the Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 2 71-80 (10 pages)
Previous studies have suggested that brain stem noradrenergic inputs differentially modulate neurons in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN). Here, we compared the effects of norepinephrine (NE) on spontaneous GABAergic inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) in identified PVN neurons using slice patch technique. In 17 of 18 type I neurons, NE (30∼100μM) reversibly decreased sIPSC frequency to 41⁑7% of the baseline value (4.4⁑0.8 Hz, p<0.001). This effect was blocked by yohimbine... -
Comparisons of Renoprotective Activities between White Ginseng Radix and Rootlet in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats with Diabetes

of white ginseng radix (Ginseng Radix Alba, GRA) and white ginseng rootlet (Ginseng Radix Palva, GRP) for four weeks, arterial blood pressure and blood glucose levels were determined at every 10 days. In both GRA- and GRP-treatment groups, arterial blood pressures started to go down after 10 days of administration and maintained throughout the study period. After four weeks administrations of GRA and GRP, diastolic blood pressures were significantly decreased with 17% and 9%, respectively. GRA... -

tall and steep slow waves with abortive spikes (278⁑50%, n=4). These effects were not affected by atropine (2μM), guanethidine (2μM) and tetrodotoxin (0.2μM). NT-induced contractile responses were abolished in Ca2-free solution and reduced greatly to near abolition by 10μM of verapamil or 0.2 mM of CdCl2. Verapamil attenuated the effects of NT on frequency and amplitude of the slow waves. Taken together, these results indicate that NT enhances contractility in guinea-pig gastric... -
Enhancement of Cyclosporine-Induced Oxidative Damage of Kidney Mitochondria by Iron

μM ascorbate) synergistically stimulated degradation of 2-α deoxyribose. Cyclosporine (1 to 100 μM) reduced ferric ion in a dose dependent manner, which is much less than ascorbate action. Addition of Fe2 caused a change in absorbance spectrum of cyclosporine in 230∼350 nm of wavelengths. The results show that cyclosporine plus iron (or ascorbate) exerts an enhanced damaging effect on kidney mitochondria. Iron and ascorbate appear to promote the nephrotoxicity induced by cyclosporine. -
Effect of C1 Esterase Inhibitor on the Cardiac Dysfunction Following Ischemia and Reperfusion in the Isolated Perfused Rat Heart

cardiac contractile function (p<0.001) in comparison to those I/R hearts receiving only vehicle. In addition, C1 INH significantly (p<0.001) reduced PMN accumulation in the ischemic myocardium as evidenced by an attenuation in myeloperoxidase activity. These findings demonstrate the C1 INH is a potent and effective cardioprotective agent inhibits leukocyte-endothelial interaction and preserves cardiac contractile function and coronary perfusion following myocardial ischemia and reperfusion. -
The Enhancement of Endotoxin-Induced Nitric Oxide Production by Elevation of Glucose Concentration in Macrophage
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.4 10 447-454 (8 pages)
The production of nitric oxide (NO) and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) are known to be modulated by a variety of factors. Recent study showed that endotoxin-induced NO synthesis and iNOS expression were greatly enhanced by elevation of extracellular glucose concentration in murine macrophages. Although this was suggested to be due to the activation of protein kinase C (PKC) via sorbitol pathway, there was lack of evidence for this speculation. This study was performed... -
Mechanism of Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase-Activating Polypeptide- Induced Inhibition on Catecholamine Secretion Evoked by Cholinergic Stimulation and Membrane Depolarization in the Rat Adrenal Gland
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 12 339-350 (12 pages)
The present study was attempted to examine the effect of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) on catecholamine (CA) secretion evoked by cholinergic stimulation, membrane depolarization and calcium mobilization from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland. The perfusion of PACAP (10 nM) into an adrenal vein for 60 min produced a great inhibition in CA secretion evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), high K (5.6⁓102 M), DMPP (104 M for 2 min),... -

25 mmHg transmural pressure) from 39 rats anaesthetized with 2% inspired halothane. A biphasic contraction was observed in response to hypoxia (ca. 25 mmHg Po2). The magnitudes of both the first, transient, phase (PT, peak tension) and of the second, sustained, phase (SST, steady state tension) were measured. The latter was measured 40 min after the start of hypoxia. The first phase was most pronounced in vessels with an average diameter of 423 μm while the second phase was most pronounced in...
