The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.5 8 273-282 (10 pages)
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of R-()-2,10,11-trihydroxy-N-propylnoraporphine [R-()-TNPA], a selective agonist of dopaminergic D2 receptor and S()-raclopride, a selective antagonist of dopaminergic D2 receptor, on the secretion of catecholamines (CA) evoked by cholinergic stimulation and membrane-depolarization in the isolated perfused model of the rat adrenal gland, and also to establish its mechanism of action. R-()-TNPA (10∼100μM)... -
Changes of Serum Ferritin in Acute Lung Injury Induced by Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 4 187-192 (6 pages)
Serum ferritin levels are increased in subjects at-risk for or with acute lung injury (ALI), and there are observations to suggest that increases in serum ferritin levels may help predict the development of ALI in at-risk individuals. To deepen our understanding of increases of serum ferritin and their relationship to the development of ALI, we measured serum ferritin levels before and after intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats, and found that serum ferritin levels increased... -

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the expression of cardiac marker protein in rabbit cardiac tissue that was exposed to ischemic preconditioning (IPC), or ischemiareperfusion injury (IR) using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). We compared 2DE gels of control (uninjured) cardiac tissue with those of IPC and IR cardiac tissue. Expression of one protein was detected in IR heart tissue, however the... -
Cooperation of Gβ and Gαq Protein in Contractile Response of Cat Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES)
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 9 349-355 (7 pages)
We previously shown that LES contraction depends on M3 receptors linked to PTX insensitive Gq protein and activation of PLC. This results in production of IP3, which mediates calcium release, and contraction through a CaM dependent pathway. In the esophagus ACh activates M2 receptors linked to PTX sensitive Gi3 protein, resulting in activation of PLD, presumably, production of DAG. We investigated the role of PLC isozymes which can be activated by Gq or Gβ protein on ACh-induced contraction in... -
Reduction of Muscarinic K+ Channel Activity by Transferrin in Ischemic Rat Atrial Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 7 333-339 (7 pages)
It has been demonstrated that an unidentified cytosolic factor(s) reduces KACh channel function. Therefore, this study attempted to elucidate the cytosolic factor. Fresh cytosol isolated from normal heart (FC) depressed the KACh channel activity, but cytosol isolated from the ischemic hearts (IC) did not modulate the channel function. Electrophorectic analysis revealed that a protein of ∼80 kDa was markedly reduced or even lost in IC. By using peptide sequencing analysis and Western blot, this... -
Effect of Heat Shock Protein 72 on the Generation of Reperfusion Arrhythmias
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.4 7 319-324 (6 pages)
The causal relationship between heat shock protein (HSP) and second window of cardioprotective effect is still undetermined. In the present study, we assessed whether HSP-producing substances, amphetamine and ketamine, afforded protection against reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation (VF) and these protective effect remained after the inhibition of HSP72 production by quercetin, a mitochondrial ATPase inhibitor. Adult mongreal male cats (n=60, 2.5∼4 kg) were used in this study.... -
Depression of L-type Ca2+ and Transient Outward K+ Currents in Endotoxin-treated Rat Cardiac Myocytes

in vitro also attenuated ICa,L (8.40.4 pA/pF, P<0.01). The amplitude of Ito on depolarization to 60 mV was reduced in endotoxin treated myocytes (16.51.5 pA/pF, P<0.01, ex vivo; 20.00.9 pA/pF, P<0.01 , in vitro) compared to normal myocytes (control; 24.71.0 pA/pF). There was no voltage shift in steady-state inactivation of ICa,L and Ito between groups. These results suggest that endotoxin reduces Ca2 and K currents of rat cardiac myocytes, which may lead to cardiac dysfunction. -
The Enhancement of Endotoxin-Induced Nitric Oxide Production by Elevation of Glucose Concentration in Macrophage
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.4 10 447-454 (8 pages)
The production of nitric oxide (NO) and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) are known to be modulated by a variety of factors. Recent study showed that endotoxin-induced NO synthesis and iNOS expression were greatly enhanced by elevation of extracellular glucose concentration in murine macrophages. Although this was suggested to be due to the activation of protein kinase C (PKC) via sorbitol pathway, there was lack of evidence for this speculation. This study was performed... -
Effects of Cl Channel Blockers on the Cardiac ATP-sensitive K+ Channel
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 8 305-313 (9 pages)
To explore whether Cl channel blockers interact with the ATP-sensitive K (KATP) channel, I have examined the effect of two common Cl channel blockers on the KATP channel activity in isolated rat ventricular myocytes using patch clamp techniques. In inside-out patches, 4,4'-diisothio-cyanatostilbene- 2,2'-disulfonic acid (DIDS) and niflumic acid applied to bath solution inhibited the KATP channel activity in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 of 0.24 and 927μM,... -
Opening of ATP-sensitive K+ Channel by Pinacidil Requires Serine/ Threonine Phosphorylation in Rat Ventricular Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 7 293-303 (11 pages)
The influences of specific protein phosphatase and protein kinase inhibitors on the ATP-sensitive K (KATP) channel-opening effect of pinacidil were investigated in single rat ventricular myocytes using patch clamp technique. In cell-attached patches, pinacidil (100 μM) induced the opening of the KATP channel, which was blocked by the pretreatment with H-7 (100 μM) whereas enhanced by the pretreatment with genistein (30 μM) or tyrphostin A23 (10 μM). In inside-out patches, pinacidil...
