Gayeon Won, Seong Kug Eo, Sang-Youel Park, Jin Hur, John Hwa Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 4호 9 536-542 (7 pages)
Previously, we genetically engineered a Salmonella Typhi bacterial ghost (STG) as a novel inactivated vaccine candidate against typhoid fever. The underlying mechanism employed by the ghost in stimulating the adaptive immune response remains to be investigated. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the immunostimulatory effect of STG on mouse bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) and its activation of the adaptive immune response in vitro. Immature BMDCs were stimulated with STG, which... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 2호 4 179-187 (9 pages)
This study aimed to elucidate the effect of tryptophan (Trp) on gut hormone secretion as well as the roles of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) and its downstream signaling pathway in gut hormone secretion by assessing swine duodenal perfusion in vitro. Swine duodenum was perfused with Krebs-Henseleit buffer as a basal solution. Various concentrations (0, 10, and 20 mM) of Trp were applied to investigate its effect on gut hormone secretion. A CaSR antagonist was used to detect the involvement... -
Isolation and characterization of a new porcine epidemic diarrhea virus variant that occurred in Korea in 2014
Dong-Kun Yang, Ha-Hyun Kim, Seung-Heon Lee, Soon-Seek Yoon, Jung-Won Park, In-Soo Cho 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 10 71-78 (8 pages)
Outbreaks of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) have resulted in significant economic losses in the swine industry, and another PED outbreak occurred in 2014 in Korea. Isolating and culturing PED virus (PEDV) allow investigations into its pathogenesis and the development of vaccines and diagnostic assays. In this study, we successfully isolated two PEDV isolates (QIAP1401 and QIAP1402) from naturally infected piglets at Jeju-do, Korea. Viral propagation was confirmed in Vero cells based on... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 8 51-57 (7 pages)
Brucellosis is an emerging infectious disease affecting humans and animals. In this study, we investigated the in vitro and in vivo effects of tannic acid (TA) against Brucella abortus infection. After infection, F-actin polymerization and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (ERK 1/2 and p38α) phosphorylation were reduced in TA-treated cells compared with that in control cells. The mice were infected via an intraperitoneal route and were orally given TA or phosphate-buffered saline for 14... -

Ginseng gintonin is an exogenous ligand of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) receptors. Accumulating evidence shows LPA helps in rapid recovery of corneal damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of gintonin in a rabbit model of corneal damage. We investigated the signal transduction pathway of gintonin in human corneal epithelium (HCE) cells to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism. We next evaluated the therapeutic effects of gintonin, using a rabbit model of... -

Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) is a member of a family of enzymes that metabolize GTP to cGMP and was first identified as a receptor for heat-stable enterotoxin. Guanylin (GNY) has since been identified as an endogenous ligand for GC-C in the intestine of several mammalian species. The GNY/GC-C system regulates ion transportation and pH in the mucosa. Recently, it was reported that GC-C and GNY are involved in lipid metabolism in rat mesenteric adipose tissue macrophages. To examine the role of GC-C...
