대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.2 7 105-111 (7 pages)
on InsP3-induced Ca2+ release, but 2-APB at lower concentration, which effectively blocked Ca2+ entry, had no inhibitory action. At higher concentrations, 2-APB has multiple paradoxical effects including inhibition of InsP3-induced Ca2+ release and direct stimulation of Ca2+ release. Based on the results, we concluded that caffeine is useful as an inhibitor of InsP3R, and 2-APB at lower concentration is considered a blocker of Ca2+ entry through SOC channels in the pancreatic acinar cell. -

To elucidate the mechanism of cyclic nucleotides, such as adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) and guanosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP), in the regulation of human gastric motility, we examined the effects of forskolin (FSK), isoproterenol (ISO) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on the spontaneous, high K+ and acetylcholine (ACh)-induced contractions of corporal circular smooth muscle in human stomach. Gastric circular smooth muscle showed regular spontaneous contraction, and FSK,... -
Electrically-evoked Neural Activities of rd1 Mice Retinal Ganglion Cells by Repetitive Pulse Stimulation
SangBaekRyu, JangHeeYe, JongSeungLee, YongSookGoo, ChiHyunKim, KyungHwanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 6 443-448 (6 pages)
For successful visual perception by visual prosthesis using electrical stimulation, it is essential to develop an effective stimulation strategy based on understanding of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses to electrical stimulation. We studied RGC responses to repetitive electrical stimulation pulses to develop a stimulation strategy using stimulation pulse frequency modulation. Retinal patches of photoreceptor-degenerated retinas from rd1 mice were attached to a planar multi-electrode array... -
Inhibition of β-amyloid1-40 Peptide Aggregation and Neurotoxicity by Citrate
YongHoonPark, Young-JinKim, IlHongSon, HyunDukYang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.4 2 273-279 (7 pages)
The accumulation of Ղ-amyloid (AՂ) aggregates is a characteristic of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Furthermore, these aggregates have neurotoxic effects on cells, and thus, molecules that inhibit AՂ aggregate formation could be valuable therapeutics for AD. It is well known that aggregation of AՂ depends on its hydrophobicity, and thus, in order to increase the hydrophilicity of AՂ, we considered using citrate, an anionic surfactant with three carboxylic acid groups. We... -
Neuroprotective Effects of Lithium on NMDA-induced Excitotoxicity in Mouse Cerebrum
Gee-younKwon, Soo-kyungKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.3 1 111-122 (12 pages)
Neuroprotective properties of lithium were evaluated by using in vivo NMDA excitotoxicity model. Systemic injection of NMDA to young mice induced neuronal apoptosis mediated by both TNFR-1 and Fas ligand, and long-term lithium treatment showed noticeable neuroprotection against NMDA-induced excitotoxicity: NMDA-damaged neurons expressed several apoptosis-related gene products such as TNFR-1, Fas ligand, and caspase-3, and these gene expressions were not found in the brain of mice chronically... -
YS 49, a Synthetic Isoquinoline Alkaloid, Protects Sheep Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells from tert-butylhydroperoxide-mediated Cytotoxicity

Endothelium, particularly pulmonary endothelium, is predisposed to injury by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their derivatives. Heme oxygenase (HO) has been demonstrated to provide cytoprotective effects in models of oxidant-induced cellular and tissue injuries. In the present study, we investigated the effects of YS 49 against oxidant [tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBH)]-induced injury using cultured sheep pulmonary artery endothelial cells (SPAECs). The viability of SPAECs was determined by... -
Inhibition of Hypoxia-induced Apoptosis in PC12 Cells by Estradiol

Neuronal apoptotic events, which result in cell death, are occurred in hypoxic/ischemic conditions. Estradiol is a female sex hormone with steroid structure known to provide neuroprotection through multiple mechanisms in the central nervous system. This study was aimed to investigate the signal transduction pathway of CoCl2-induced neuronal cell death and the inhibitory effects of estradiol. Administration of CoCl2 decreased cell viability in both a dose- and time-dependent manner in PC12 cells.... -

YoungChulKim, JaeHoonSim, SangJinLee, TongMookKang, SungJoonKim, SeungRyulKim, SeiJinYoun, SangJeonLee, Wen-XieXu6, InsukSo, KiWhanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 5 103-108 (6 pages)
To study the direct effect of somatostatin (SS) on calcium channel current (IBa) in guinea-pig gastric myocytes, IBa was recorded by using whole-cell patch clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells. Nicardipine (1μM), a L-type Ca2+ channel blocker, inhibited IBa by 98⁑1.9% (n=5), however IBa was decreased in a reversible manner by application of SS. The peak IBa at 0 mV were decreased to 95⁑1.1, 92⁑1.9, 82⁑4.0, 66⁑5.8, 10⁑2.9% at 1010, 109,... -
Forward-Mode Na+-Ca2+ Exchange during Depolarization in the Rat Ventricular Myocytes with High EGTA
Eun-GiKim, ChangMannKo 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.6 5 487-494 (8 pages)
During depolarization, extrusion of Ca2 from sarcoplasmic reticulum through forward-mode Na-Ca2 exchange was studied in the rat ventricular myocytes patch-clamped in whole-cell configuration. In order to confine the Ca2 responses in a micro-domain by limiting the Ca2 diffusion time, rat ventricular myocytes were dialyzed with high (14 mM) EGTA. K current was suppressed by substituting KCl with 105 mM CsCl and 20 mM TEA in the pipette filling solution... -

a simple linear function of T/η. Based on this calibration curve, the microviscosity values of the direct probe environment in SPMVPC model membranes ranged from 234.97⁑48.85 cP at 4oC to 19.21⁑1.11 cP at 45oC. At 37oC, a value of 27.25⁑0.44 cP was obtained. The lidocaine·HCl decreased the microviscosity of SPMVPC model membranes in a concentration-dependent manner, with a significant decrease in microviscosity value by injecting the local anesthetic even at the concentration...
