Latent Profiles of Korean Preschool Teachers Three Facets of Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Early Mathematics

classroom teachers nested in 40 preschools were provided with a play-like scenario where they need to recognize mathematical concepts and effective questioning strategies during children s play. Findings from Latent Profile Analysis indicated that the three facets of PCK in early mathematics are distinct sets of knowledge and skills that are qualitatively different. This finding calls for more intervention research on supporting Korean preschool teachers’ multifaceted PCK in early mathematics. -

were conducted based on three domains of the SoI-EY framework. We observed that Boy A ranged from Level 2 to Level 4 in the three domains, showing Level 2 overall, while boys B and C fit Level 2 in the reactive domain, and Levels 2 to 4 in the interactive and proactive domains. The results indicated that children of similar ages have different musical development levels, and that a child’s environment, developmental level, and playmates can all influence the level of musical development. -

problems in the classroom. Selected background music tended to be of medium tempi, with or without lyrics, often calm and quiet, with medium or soft dynamics. Music choices related to the perceived mood of the music, children’s perceived preferences, and the music’s relationships to a chosen educational theme. The majority of teachers who used background music during free-play time reported that this was also helpful in the learning of songs or to support content-related curricular themes. -

The components of executive function (shifting, inhibition, and working memory) showed different patterns of correlation to performance on number processing tasks across the early years of school. Findings could be used to enhance teachers’ understanding about the role of the cognitive processes employed by children in numeracy learning, and so inform teachers’ classroom practices. -

The results of this study were discussed in terms of what early childhood pre-service teachers still need, and how teacher education programs should prepare the teachers equipped with necessary knowledge in order for them to provide rich musical experiences for young children. -

Neuroimaging tools such as fMRI were used to identify effects of the program on pre-service teachers’ neural activations on divergent thinking measured primarily by the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). Since the research is still in progress, we present a theoretical model for the teaching program, and preliminary test results of comparing changes of neural recruitments in students’ brain participated in fMRI with the TTCT. -
