Mac-1-mediated Uptake and Killing of Bordetella bronchiseptica by Porcine Alveolar Macrophages
Jong-keuk Lee, Lawrence B. Schook, Mark S. Rutherford 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 1호 7 41-49 (9 pages)
The role of Mac-1 as a receptor for Bordetella bronchiseptica infection of alveolar macrophages (AMphi) was examined using 6 strains (2 ATCC and 4 pathogenic field isolates) to assess B. bronchiseptica binding, uptake and replication in primary porcine AMphi. All B. bronchiseptica strains were rapidly killed by porcine serum in a dose- and time-dependent manner. However, heat-inactivated porcine serum (HIS) did not demonstrate any bacterial-killing activity, suggesting that complement may have a... -
Biological Rhythm in Livestock
Piccione Giuseppe and Caola Giovanni 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 13 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 1 145-157 (13 pages)
The animal time structure is a basic fact of life, no matter if one wants to study it or not. The time-dependent, mostly rhythmic, and thus to a certain degree predictable, variations of biochemical and physiological functions and of sensitivity and resistance to many environmental agents are often quite large and offer not only new insight into animal physiology and pathology but also diagnostic possibilities and therapeutic advantages. Chronobiology, chronophysiology and its subspecialities,... -
Angiogenesis effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) on rat corneas
Kangmoon Seo, Jongil Choi, Myungjin Park, Changhun Rhee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 2호 10 125-130 (6 pages)
This study was performed to evaluate the effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) upon angiogenesis in the rat cornea, to examine its possible application as an alternative angiogenic inducer and to provide basic data for further studies. Angiogenesis was induced by cornea micropocket assay, as previously described. Eight of thirty two eyes of Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to one of four groups, namely, a non-NGF group (Group 0), a 0.5 ng of NGF group (Group 0.5), a 1.0 ng of NGF group... -
Prophylactic effect of plaster and cataplasm contained ketoprofen in rats with adjuvant arthritis
Seong-Soo Kang, Seok-Hwa Choi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 1호 11 65-70 (6 pages)
the PT and the CT groups were significantly lower than those of the control group from day 0 to 7 of the experimental period (P<0.05, P<0.01). The CT rats showed reduced poly-arthritis development than the PT rats. Our results suggest that radiographic assessment of bony changes is more suitable for measuring changes in long bones such as femur or tibia than in vertebrae. The prophylactic effect of CT prominently suppressed edematous swelling and bony changes in arthritic limb compared with PT. -
Immunostimulatory effects of anionic alkali mineral complex solution Barodon in porcine lymphocytes

weeks posttreatment. In MLN, the proportion was 45.1% and 52.1% in Tx-1 and Tx-2, respectively, otherwise 16.5% in control group at 8 weeks posttreatment. The mitogen-stimulated activity was significantly higher in Tx-1 than in the control group at 11 weeks posttreatment when cells were stimulated with Con A and PHA, respectively (p<0.01). Also, Con A-, PHA and PWM-stimulated activity was significantly higher in Tx-2 than in the control group at the same time (p<0.05). The tissue distribution of... -
Effect of BL-21 (Wei-Yu) acupoint stimulation on gastric motility following preanesthetic treatment in dogs
Hee-Young Kim, Oh-Kyeong Kwon, Tchi-Chou Nam 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages

was to select the ideal chemical restraint at acupuncture for gastric motility. Nine healthy mixed breed dogs weighed 10-21 kg and aged 1-3 years old were used in this study. Two EMG surface electrodes were placed between the seromuscular and the mucosal layer of pylorus. Twenty minutes after feeding normal gastric motility was recorded for 60 minutes using physiograph (Narco-Biosystem). Then preanesthetic treated-gastric motility was observed for 30 minutes. Preanesthetics used were xylazine,... -
Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in cynomolgus monkeys
Ki-Hoan Nam 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2000, 제 1권 제 2호 10 127-131 (5 pages)
the affected macaques demonstrated an increase of CD4 and CD8 T cell populations expressing the CD69 early activation marker. Single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis of T cell receptor beta chain showed T cell clones infiltrated into the brain lesion, which were different from those found in the peripheral blood of the same monkey. The present paper shows that SSCP analysis of TCR is useful in studying clonality of T cells infiltrating into the brain tissue of macaque with EAE. -
Using pig biliary system, in vivo propagation of Enterocytozoon bieneusi, an AIDS-related zoonotic pathogen

a reservoir of infection. In conclusion the biliary tree is an adequate niche for the propagation of E. bieneusi. This work has also resulted in the development of a procedure of ultrasound-guided cholecystocentesis for aspirating biles. This is a simple and non-surgical procedure, and creates no signs of clinical complications in the livers and the gall bladders after dozens of separate attempts. Thus, this is a very useful and safe technique for the aspiration of bile from live animals. -
Evaluation of expression patterns of feline CD28 and CTLA-4 in feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV)-infected and FIV antigen-induced PBMC
In-Soo Choi, Han Sang Yoo, Ellen W. Collisson 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages

and CTLA-4 expression was also examined with fresh and antigen-stimulated PBMC. FIV infection induced a lower expression of CD28, but a higher expression of CTLA-4 in the infected PBMC than in the uninfected PBMC. Relatively high levels of CD28 expression were demonstrated in both the fresh and the antigen-stimulated PBMC. The expression level of CTLA-4 in the freshly isolated PBMC was rather low, however, FIV antigen stimulation induced a relatively high expression of CTLA-4 in feline PBMC. -
Immunologic reactivity of a lipopolysaccharide-protein complex of type A Pasteurella multocida in mice
Hyo-ik Ryu, Chul-joong Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2000, 제 1권 제 2호 5 87-95 (9 pages)
serum against the LPS-protein complex protected mice against challenge thereby indicating a role for humoral immunity, the LPS-protein complex of P. multocida was also found to induce cell-mediated immunity. This cell-mediated immunity was demonstrated in mice immunized with the complex by: (1). mitogenic responses of T lymphocytes, (2). induction of delayed type hypersensitivity reaction in the hind footpads, and (3). enhanced resistance to challenge infection with Salmonella enteritidis.
