Preventive Effect of Serotonergic Drugs on LPS-Induced Acute Anorexia in Rats

intake at any of the doses tested, but ketanserin (2A antagonist) caused an increase of food intake at 4 mg/kg. RS-102221 (2C antagonist) reduced food intake at 2 and 4 mg/kg. LPS reduced food intake 1 hour after injection, and food intake remained low until the end of measurement period (24 hours) (p<0.05). Pretreatment of rats with 8-OH-DPAT partially recovered of cumulative food intake at all measured times (2, 4, 6, 8, and 24 hours after LPS injection). Pretreatment with metergoline resulte... -
Modulation of Large Conductance Ca2+-activated K+ Channel of Skin Fibroblast (CRL-1474) by Cyclic Nucleotides

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 9 131-134 (4 pages)
Potassium channels in human skin fibroblast have been studied as a possible site of Alzheimer disease pathogenesis. Fibroblasts in Alzheimer disease show alterations in signal transduction pathway such as changes in Ca2 homeostasis and/or Ca2-activated kinases, phosphatidylinositol cascade, protein kinase C activity, cAMP levels and absence of specific K channel. However, little is known so far about electrophysiological and pharmacological characteristics of... -
Na+-Ca2+ Exchange Curtails Ca2+ before Its Diffusion to Global Ca2+i in the Rat Ventricular Myocyte

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 4 95-102 (8 pages)
In the heart, Na-Ca2 exchange (NCX) is the major Ca2 extrusion mechanism. NCX has been considered as a relaxation mechanism, as it reduces global [Ca2]i raised during activation. However, if NCX locates in the close proximity to the ryanodine receptor, then NCX would curtail Ca2 before its diffusion to global Ca2i. This will result in a global [Ca2]i decrease especially during its ascending phase rather than descending phase. Therefore, NCX would... -
TASK-1 Channel Promotes Hydrogen Peroxide Induced Apoptosis

to non-transfected HEK-293. In HEK-293 cells expressing TASK-1, however, dose-response curve was significantly shifted to the left. It means that H2O2 induced cell death was increased. In cell attached-mode recording, application of H2O2 (300μM) increased activity of all K2P channels. However, a low concentration of H2O2 (50μM) increased only TASK-1 channel activity. These results indicate that TASK-1 might participate in K efflux by H2O2 at low concentration, thereby inducing AVD. -
D-Amphetamine Causes Dual Actions on Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

low concentrations enhances the CA secretion from the rat adrenal medulla evoked by cholinergic stimulation (both nicotininc and muscarinic receptors) as well as by membrane depolarization, but at high concentration it rather inhibits them. It seems that d-amphetamine has dual effects as both agonist and antagonist at nicotinic receptors of the isolated perfused rat adrenal medulla, which might be dependent on the concentration. It is also thought that these actions of d-amphetamine are probably... -
Differential Effects of Typical and Atypical Antipsychotics on MK- 801-induced EEG Changes in Rats

We examined whether the abnormal EEG state by NMDA receptor blocker MK-801 can be reversed by typical and atypical antipsychotics differentially by comparing their spectral profiles after drug treatment in rats. The spectral profiles produced by typical antipsychotics chlorpromazine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) and haloperidol (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) were differ from that by atypical antipsychotic clozapine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) in the rats treated with or without MK-801 treatment (0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) which produce... -
Effects of PCB Congeners in Rodent Neuronal Cells in Culture

high dose showed a significant increase of total protein kinase C (PKC) activity at phobol 12,13-dibutyrate ([3H]PDBu) binding assay, indicating that non-coplanar PCBs are more neuroactive than coplanar PCBs in neuronal cells. PKC isozymes were immunoblotted with the selected monoclonal antibodies. PKC-α, δ, and ε were activated with non-coplanar PCB exposure. Receptor for activated C kinase-1 (RACK-1), anchoring protein for activated PKC, was more induced with exposure to coplanar PCBs than... -
Hyperthermia-induced Apoptosis is Independent upon DNA Strand Breaks in Human Lymphoid Cells

Here, we present a suggestion that a protein(s) is the major target for heat shock apoptosis. We firstly found glycerol, which reportedly stabilizes protein structure, showed a protective effect in Raji cells against hyperthermic apoptosis. In addition, quercetin, which modulates transcription of the heat shock protein family members, enhanced apoptotic death induced by hyperthermia. Furthermore, Raji cells are protected by a pre-mild heat treatment prior to the killing dose of heat shock. -
Effect of Defibrotide on Rat Reflux Esophagitis

dose-dependent manner. Superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide production in 1μM formylmethionylleucylphenylalanine (fMLP)- or 0.1μg/ml N-phorbol 12- myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-activated PMNs was inhibited by defibrotide in a dose-dependent fashion. Defibrotide effectively scavenged the hydrogen peroxide but did not scavenge the hydroxyl radical. Treatment of esophagitis rats with defibrotide inhibited interleukin-1β production in the blood in comparison with untreated rats, but tumor necrosis... -
The Improvement of Learning and Memory Ability of Normal Persons by BF-7

dose-dependent manner. To know how BF-7 plays such a positive role, we measured the concentration of acetylcholine in the brain from memory impairment animal model. Treatment of BF-7 significantly increased the concentration of acetylcholine. So, it is supposed that the protection of cholinergic neuron and/or keeping proper concentration of acetylcholine might be one of the mechanisms by which BF-7 improve brain function. So, our results suggest that the BF-7 is effective material for improving...
