Fabrication of carbon fiber SMC composites with vinyl ester resin and effect of carbon fiber content on mechanical properties
Haksung Lee, Mongyoung Huh, Jaeyoung Yoon, Dasom Lee, Seonyul Kim, Shinjae Kang 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 11 101-104 (4 pages)
Fiber reinforced composites are being used in the automotive industry and other manufacturing fields. Their properties, including high specific stiffness, strength and weight reduction make fiber composite materials an attractive replacement for metal components. The development of composites like carbon fiber reinforced plastic and related production technologies have contributed to the increasing application of fiber composite materials. Many new components have recently been adapted,... -
Adsorption characteristics of heavy metals ions by physical activation on coal tar pitch-based activated carbon fibers
Bo-kyung Choi, Jae-Kyoung Ko, Soo-Jin Park, Min-Kang Seo 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 10 96-100 (5 pages)
Due to the increasing population growth of modern society, along with rapid industrial development and urbanization, environmental pollution continues to worsen and has become an important issue, not only domestically but also worldwide. In particular, toxic substances such as heavy metal ions are present in the wastewater produced by various industries. This wastewater flows into rivers, pollutes water supplies, and can contaminate the drinking water supplied to people [1-3]. Powder or... -
High-energy-density activated carbon electrode for organic electric-double-layer-capacitor using carbonized petroleum pitch
Poo Reum Choi, Sang-Gil Kim, Ji Chul Jung, Myung-Soo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages

by changing the pre-carbonization temperature. Because the electrode density increased with increasing of the pre-carbonization temperature, the highest volumetric capacitance of 28.4 F/cc was obtained from the PP pre-carbonized at 700°C, exhibiting a value over 150% of that of a commercial AC (MSP-20) for EDLC. Electrochemical activation was observed from the electrodes of PP as they were pre-carbonized at high temperatures above 700°C and then activated by KOH. This process was found to have... -
Synthesis and characterization of carbon doped TiO₂ photocatalysts supported on stainless steel mesh by sol-gel method
JO. Tijani, OO. Fatoba, TC. Totito, WD. Roos, LF. Petrik 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 12 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 6 48-59 (12 pages)
pyrolysis temperature and holding time on the morphological characteristics, particle sizes and surface area of the prepared catalyst was investigated. The prepared catalysts were characterized by several analytical methods: high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The XRD patterns showed that the supported TiO₂ nanocrystals are typically anatase,... -
Thermo-electrical properties of randomly oriented carbon/carbon composite
Thakur Sudesh Kumar Raunija, N. Supriya 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages

directions was evaluated. The results indicated that after graphitization the specimens had excellent carbon purity (99.9 %) as compared to that after carbonization (98.1). The results further showed an increasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for the carbonized samples and a decreasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for graphitized samples. The influence of the thickness of the test specimen on the thermal conductivity was found to be negligible. Further, all of... -
Kinetic and multi-parameter isotherm studies of picric acid removal from aqueous solutions by carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes in the presence and absence of ultrasound
Soheila Gholitabar, Hasan Tahermansouri 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 2 14-24 (11 pages)
Carboxylated multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) have been used as efficient adsorbents for the removal of picric acid from aqueous solutions under stirring and ultrasound conditions. Batch experiments were conducted to study the influence of the different parameters such as pH, amount of adsorbents, contact time and concentration of picric acid on the adsorption process. The kinetic data were fitted with pseudo-first order, pseudo-secondorder, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion models.... -
Tribological properties of carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum composites processed by spark plasma sintering

The resulting polyacrylonitrile-based CFs are still used in a wide-variety of applications since they exhibit excellent elasticity with strength 10 times higher and density 1/5 less than those of steel. Aluminum (Al), on the other hand, is commonly used as an engineering material since it is abundant on the earth’s crust and is lightweight (2.7 g/cm3). Additionally, it can easily form an alloy with other metals at low or high temperatures with high ductility and corrosion resistance [4]. -

recently to increase catalytic activity in the o-nitroaniline reduction to NaBH4 and Raman activity in test molecules as p-aminothiophenol [1]. Other authors showed that the rGO in combination with carbon nanotubes has the properties of supercapacitors [2]. Mao et al. [3] obtained a gas sensor type field defect transistor of high sensitivity at low concentrations, using sheets of rGO. On the other hand, rGO linked with Cu2O nanocrystals is capable of removing dye pollution from wastewater [4]. -

at 900°C. The characterization of the carbon material resulted in properties comparable to those of many coals industrially manufactured. The study of the dynamic adsorption of chromium on the obtained material resulted in a low removal rate (33.7%) without applied potential. The application of negative potentials of -0.7 V and -1.4 increases the adsorption of chromium up to 90% and 96% respectively. Whereas a positive potential of +1.4V allows desorption of the contaminant of 138%. -
Synthesize multi-walled carbon nanotubes via catalytic chemical vapour deposition method on Fe-Ni bimetallic catalyst supported on kaolin
Aliyu A, Abdulkareem AS, Kovo AS, Abubakre OK, Tijani JO, Kariim I 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 18 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 5 33-50 (18 pages)
In this study, Fe-Ni bimetallic catalyst supported on kaolin is prepared by a wet impregnation method. The effects of mass of kaolin support, pre-calcination time, pre-calcination temperature and stirring speed on catalyst yields are examined. Then, the optimal supported Fe-Ni catalyst is utilised to produce multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using catalytic chemical vapour deposition (CCVD) method. The catalysts and MWCNTs prepared using the optimal conditions are characterized using high...
