Comparison of Microbial Fungicides in Antagonistic Activities Related to the Biological Control of Phytophthora Blight in Chili Pepper Caused by Phytophthora capsici
The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
6 340-345 (6 pages)
Two similar microbial fungicides (termed as MA and MB) developed in a Korean biopesticide company were analyzed and compared each other in their biocontrol activities against the phytophthora blight of chili pepper caused by Phytophthora capsici. MA and MB contained the microbe Paenibacillus polymyxa and Bacillus subtilis, respectively, with concentrations over those posted on the microbial products. In comparison of the isolated microbes (termed as MAP from MA and MBB from MB) in the... -
Production of a Phytotoxic Compound, 3-Phenylpropionic Acid by a Bacterial Endophyte, Arthrobacter humicola YC6002 Isolated from the Root of Zoysia japonica

6 245-252 (8 pages)
An endophytic bacterial strain, Arthrobacter humicola YC6002, was isolated from a surface sterilized root of Korean turf grass (Zoysia japonica) collected from Jinju, Korea. This strain showed inhibitory effect on germination and shoot growth of radish. The inhibition of germination and shoot growth of radish seeds varied depending on the age of culture and the temperature at which it was incubated. The culture filtrate of 1/10- strength Tryptic Soy Broth medium, incubated for 48 hours at 30 -

with sterilized distilled water and were transferred to 50 ml containing potato dextrose broth (PDB) flasks. The peripheral hyphae of the fungal colony which developed from the infected tissues were isolated on to potato dextrose agar (PDA). On PDA plates the fungus grew well at 25oC and occupied more than half of a 9 cm petri dish within 5 days. The fungal cultures on PDA were used for morphological observation and identification of the fungus. Conidiophores were produced on the gray to whitish... -

golf course in 2007, circular to irregular patches of stunted, chlorotic and wilted turfgrass var. Pencross were noticed in Jinhae, Gyeongnam province, Korea. Soil samples collected from those diseased patches of the golf course yielded high population (average 126 nematodes/ 100 cm3) of a stunt nematode, Tylenchorhynchus claytoni, which is described and illustrated in this paper with light and scanning electron micrographs. This is the first report on the occurrence of T. claytoni in turfgrass... -
Fusarium Wilt of Korean Blackberry Caused by Fusarium cugenangense
5 Pages
8 187-191 (5 pages)
Wilt symptoms were frequently observed in Korean blackberry (Rubus coreanus) plants grown in farmers’ fields located in Gochang and Jeongeup, Jeonbuk Province, Korea during disease surveys in July 2020. The disease occurred in 10 of the 13 fields surveyed in the two locations. The incidence of diseased plants in the fields was 5-80%. Seven isolates of Fusarium sp. were obtained from the diseased plants and examined for their morphological and molecular characteristics. All the isolates belonged... -
Colletotrichum aenigma Associated with Apple Bitter Rot on Newly Bred cv. RubyS Apple
Seung-Yeol Lee, Leonid N. Ten, Jung-Joo Ryu, In-Kyu Kang, Hee-Young Jung 한국식물병리학회 식물병연구 6 Pages
4 70-75 (6 pages)
The abnormal brown sunken lesions were observed on cv. RubyS apple fruits in an orchard located in Gunwi, Gyeongbuk province, Korea. The primary observed symptoms such as small round sunken lesions and small black dots on the symptomatic area were different from the reported apple diseases. The affected apple fruits were sampled and subjected to isolation of the causal agent. Cultural and morphological characteris- tics of isolated fungal strain, designated KNUF-20GWA4, were similar to that of... -
Causal Fungus of Side Rot on ‘Zesy002’ Kiwifruit in Jeju Island, South Korea

4 24-31 (8 pages)
Since the past few years, dimple rot has become one of the most serious diseases affecting Actinidia chinensis var. chinensis ‘Zesy002’ kiwifruit in Korea, leading to a low quality and subsequent losses of income. In the current study, the causal pathogen of side rot on ‘Zesy002’ kiwifruit was identified to be Botryosphaeria dothi- dea, a widespread pathogen that could penetrate the fruit directly without wounding. Diaporthe sp., another pathogen causing dimple rot, was isolated from...
